Many thanks for sharing your techniques. I managed to replace a wheel arch last weekend following your advice. Put the new arch inside the quarter panel with a 10~15mm overlap, tacked a few places, cut through the new arch along the cut out of the quarter panel, tacked a few places along the new cut, cut away the 1st tacks and it aligns up perfectly with a nice gap for welding. Absolute amazing method. Was quite a job as I also had to repair the edge of the inner tub but it turned out sweet. Oh, don't point the laser at the Datsun, it might completely disappear :D

You make it look so easy. After watching almost all of your videos I thought I can do that. I needed to do a simple repair on my Porsche's engine tin-ware panel as it had some rust holes in it. I did the carboard template thing, transfered it to new metal, cut the old rusty metal away and tacked in the new plate. Wow I said I can really do this, and then when I come to do the finish weld it went all horribly wrong and I blew huge hole in it an welding wire everywhere. You led me on.

A fricken lazer, must be the 21st century. Steve keep in mind the squint and zap method of eye protection aint going to cut it with this thing, use the supplied PPE. Zapping a hole in your retina will be a show stopper. How you work out how useful this thing will be in your environment will make several interesting videos, also be interested if the disaster Datsun doesn't disappear in a puff of smoke if you wind this lazer up to max and point it in its general direction. Cheers from OZ.

Insane transformation of the Porsche, sure it took a while, but it went from accident bound to happen, to a serious ride. And all thanks to YCR's skill and dexterity with sheet metal coupled with ability to juggle customer budget. Those lasers are great pieces of kit. Halfass Kustoms has been putting one of those lasers to work lately, from what he found, and YCR shows here, it's not a 200% neuron activation click button problem solver like what a lot of people might expect. Have to be careful you don't create a carbon layer that can be tough to remove. Work harden the metal. And as metal working goes: The fumes are nothing to sneeze at either.

Hi Steve, that laser cleaner raises some questions for me. When used does the light reflect that beam to cause any radiation burns, not the electromagnetic but light? What is the effective range of that beam, so how doesn’t it affect surrounding surfaces when you swing a tad over the edge of what you are cleaning? Do others near by get exposed to any laser light beams, given that we need protective eyewear even using laser levels? It certainly does a great job. I am enjoying that Porsche mod. It is very satisfying watching a passionate worker, a master of the craft.

Thanks for the vid - I have a quick question. Really useful explanation at about the 15 minute point about how to overlap the rear wing panels, tack, then slit, then cut tacks and reweld. You mentioned a hammer with a dolly behind. On my mk1 mx5 wing can I use the same process for a rear arch panel repair, but without the dolly and hammer bit (as I won’t have access to the back of the panel)? Or would you recommend tucking the repair panel under the rear wing, lap welding it, and then filling? I would prefer to butt weld if possible. Cheers for any advice!

I see that the laser removes the rust, but I'm not liking the finish it leaves on the metal. Seems like it would still require extra work to get a smooth finish. Front flares seem much room wide relative to the rear flares.
