The latter's rear-engined layout was retained, but the 911 switched to unitary construction for the bodyshell and dropped the 356's VW-based suspension in favor of a more modern McPherson strut and trailing arm arrangement. In its first incarnation, Porsche's single-overhead-camshaft, air-cooled flat six displaced 1,991cc and produced 130bhp; progressively enlarged and developed, it would eventually grow to more than 3 liters and, in turbo-charged form, put out well over 300 horsepower.
The first of countless upgrades came in 1966 with the introduction of the 911S. Easily distinguish-able by its stylish Fuchs five-spoked alloy wheels, the 'S' featured a heavily revised engine producing 160bhp, the increased urge raising top speed by 10mph to 135mph. A lengthened wheelbase introduced in 1969 improved the 911's handling, and then in 1970 the engine underwent the first of many enlargements - to 2.2 liters.
The 911T (Touring) had been introduced as a new base model in 1967, initially with the 2-liter engine in 110bhp form before gaining the 2.2-liter unit, along with the rest of the range, in 1969. The T's power output then was 125bhp, increasing to 130bhp with the introduction of the 2.4-liter engine for 1972. Tenacious adhesion, responsive steering, very good flexibility, superb brakes, meticulous finish and a solid, unburstable feel were just some of the virtues praised by Motor magazine in its test of a Porsche 911T in 1973. The model was discontinued that same year.
The car we offer today is a 911T which was born in 1971 and was sold new to the American market. It spend most of its life in California with 3 documents owners who must have carried a lot about the car as it was preserved original and highly maintained.
There is not much history for the car up until 1989. Since then the car has a huge file with maintenance bills which continues up until 2016 when the car came to Europe.
The car is understored and accident free. It had a respray at some point in its life which is documented on its original blue colour. The body is absolutely rust free. When it came to Europe in 2016 the car had a full engine rebuilt by a Porsche specialist. This engine is appeared to be the matching numbers engine and runs well. The interior is also highly original with a lovely patina.
As a conclusion, this is a lovely original early 911 rare to be found today and would be a lovely choice for the collector or someone who wishes to enjoy the purity of an early 911.
In the end of the day, simple things are those with the greatest value and an early 911 is always a great value and one of the greatest cars to own and drive.
