Hello! It’s been a long journey to finish another Porsche model kit but finally It’s over and I am able to present you Porsche 917K from Fujimi the winner at the Le mans in 1971. The Car itself is the 70's legendary racing car developed as Porsche 908 was not able to surpass the Ford GT40. It is equipped with 4,5l horizontal V12 cylinder engine and it has a specially-built lighter magnesium tube-frame chassis, whereas all the other 917Ks had an aluminium one. If it comes to the body the car has vertical fins and two air boxes on the tail section for better aerodynamics and cooling. As a result, the 'finned' 917Ks were faster than the 1970 versions and Porsche became the champion at the international manufacturers championship. K stands for Kurzheck which means a short tail. Which was evolved at the racetrack with gaffer tape and aluminium sheet as the initial 917s aerodynamics made it nearly undriveable at higher speeds BTW The long tail version had a maximum measured top speed of 386 km/h (240 mph). Ok so now about the modelkit, honestly, It was the worst model that I have ever build. I know that I haven’t made them a lot but number of crooked parts or the ones which just didn’t fit were huge. Experienced modeller for sure would have done it much much better but torn decals and the front hatch looking like tank hatch… This kit just went wrong :D Nevertheless I didn’t throw it to the bin and decide to make a video out of my not so good work. I wouldn’t recommend this kit to beginners but everyone who would like to find the limits of patience feel free to buy it :D Is there any model kit which challenged you so much that you wanted to throw it out? Share your story in a comment, enjoy the video! Thanks a lot for every like given, cheers!!
Recording just for entertaining purposes, there might be as many ideas for doing it as number of all diecast in whole world :D
I am a beginner but I am not afraid of mistakes :)

I have heard that this was a difficult kit to build but you showing us the warped areas now prepares me better for my build. All of a sudden it doesn't seem that scary anymore. The 917K is a beautiful car that I want to add to my collection and now I think I can. Thank you so much for this video.

Hi Jean. Thanks for your feedback I am glad that you have found my content valuable :) As far as I recall there were couple of more issues to challange like side windows (they didn't fit either due to their shape or warped body), martini stripes decals on the front fenders (I wasn't able to achieve the right curve even with decal softeners so I needed to cut them a bit on one side to get the right curve and then fit the stripes alignment), top hinges of the rear body (they are really thin so it is quite easy to bent them while checking the body alignment), front hatch (it is just too big compering to the real one, needed additional work). I have seen couple of great projects regarding this modelkit which were done with a lot of care for details and now I know how much effort was put to made this model look great. The 917 itself is a real beauty! :) wish you good luck with your 917 😀

Great Job. You have restored my faith in my ability to build a crappy Fujimi model kit. My last one was a disaster movie. I see that with some patience and time you can actually have a beautiful result. Thanks for sharing this video...I will give it a try.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on my video! 😁 I'm glad that this project inspired you to give the Fujimi model kit another try 😀 full agree that these kits can be difficult and crappy...I struggled to achieve the desired level of quality with this particular project but It is fine... However, I strongly believe that patience is key when it comes to model building, and with enough time and effort. I wish you the best of luck with your kit! Thank you again for your feedback!😁 are you going to build another 917? 😀

I pulled mine out of the stash to have a go with it. Your video will be playing along as I build it. Hopefully I can do the same justice you did to yours. I did toss the fist edition Kinetic 1/48 F-16 Sufa. That was a disaster
@AdHocCars

Thank you! I'm really happy that you find this video valuable😀. However, this kit brought unexpected challenges, and due to a combination of its relatively lower quality and my limited experience, it didn't bring me much joy. I hope that in your situation, things will be different, and you'll overcome every challenge effortlessly! so Kinetic adventure won't happen again 😀

True! There are two types of decals to choose from. Firestone and Good Year. I chose Good Year, there should be also AVON available as there is a 917k #22 in Stuttgart museum with this tires on :) but it isn't...

for those in the know, was this the old UNION kit from Japan? (Which may or may not have been a HELLER kit at one point)
@AdHocCars
@AdHocCars 8 ай бұрын
That's interesting! I just watched a review of the UNION kit, and the sprues look a bit different. I would answer that these kits are different, but I haven't built either the Heller or Union kit. Are they as low in quality as this Fujimi kit? :)

What a great build,despite the issues you had. I love the model and will keep your video as reference. May I ask how many layers varnish you used?
@AdHocCars
@AdHocCars 9 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot for feedback! sure, basically it is 3 - 4 ml of varnish in ratio 1:4 and 1:6 (clear coat : thinner). Every layer has min 5 minutes dry time and there are about 4 or 5 thin layers.
@OnnoWeeda
@OnnoWeeda 9 ай бұрын
@@AdHocCars Thanks, doesn't it get to thin? Thin like water?
@AdHocCars
@AdHocCars 9 ай бұрын
It gets really thin and it is quite easy to overspray. I am using AirCobra 0.3 airbrush with the smallest spot setting to avoid these kind of issues
@OnnoWeeda
@OnnoWeeda 9 ай бұрын
@@AdHocCars Thanks for your answer. I am stepping over from spraycans to the airbrush. It gives more control with the airbrush. So just asking around what other modellers are doing 👍🏻 Helps me a lot.
