I asked the question in a previous video, should I trade in my 2015 991.1 GTS for the new 2017 991.2 Carrera S? In this follow up video, I discuss your comments, feedback and answers to this question and share my thoughts. Come along for a ride.
The link to my previous video comparing the two cars is here:

Man nice video, and nice topic i love your GTS, im getting a 997, i know you had one, so a question here: while you had the 997, did you complain about anything is there something you would have changed about it? taking away the comparisson with the 991
@Joe_Hutchinson
@Joe_Hutchinson 7 жыл бұрын
No complaints. I loved my 997.2 C2S. Fantastic car. Plenty fast. Great on the back roads. Nice on long trips. I bought it certified pre owned and the previous owner had the Fabspeed intake and exhaust installed. So on long trips, the loud exhaust note can be fatiguing, but that was unique to my car. Normal exhaust, even in sport mode, wouldn't be that loud. No problems with the car whatsoever. Nothing failed. Prior to the 997, I had a Boxster S for 11 years and nothing ever went wrong with that car either.

Thanks for a new video Joe always look forward to you and Nick Murray's stuff. Just wondering, what do you keep your tire pressures at? I'm now at 36psi front and 40psi rear on my snows, but it looks like there's a wide range depending on quite a few factors and I hear higher is not necessarily better....................even the dealer is kinda non committal about it.

It's such a small thing, but do you think it would be possible to fit the quad tip exhaust from your model onto the new Carrera 4 GTS model? I know if one could, they would have to change the diffuser. I've always performed the look of 4 tips and prefer them towards the outer edge of the diffuser rather than closer to the middle.

Both are excellent cars. Although I haven't driven the 991.2 version yet, on paper, it looks like a great drive. If you want the latest, most powerful version, the 991.2 is the way to go. I really enjoy the 991.1 myself. It is such a fun car to drive and willing dance partner in the twisty roads. It puts a smile on my face. You could pick up a used one for less money than the new 991.2. But both are great.

Glad you're keeping your 2015 GTS! You can only go so fast on our Highways. I think 430 HP is more than enough. You have a strong chassis, engine and handling car with a lot of class and a great sounding naturally aspirated engine! P.S. And I love the front end air intakes of the front bumper much, much better!

Hi Joe! I tried the new Porsche 911 991.2 GTS yesterday. The acceleration is incredible. It is really impressive. With the Launch controlI I had the hair of the forearms which bristled, I had shivers in the back. It had not made me this feeling with the 991.1. It goes very fast without noticing it. But it is distinctly less noise than what I have with the naturally aspirated engine. The noise with the 991.1 definitely is the best. You don't need to go fast to have a big pleasure. At the bottom it doesn't much matter to go quickly what counts it is feelings. Now that I know this difference I will definitely keep mine!

Another great video. Do you find yourself using the paddle shifters much?
@Joe_Hutchinson
@Joe_Hutchinson 7 жыл бұрын
Not as much as I would have thought. Again, I am used to driving a manual, so I thought I would use the paddles more. But the PDK is just so good about selecting the correct gear and it is very quick and responsive. It seems to read the situation right. For example, I was diving into a tight righthander and needed to scrub off speed quickly and it just kicked down the gears so fast as I as braking heavily. So smart. So I have been leaving it in auto lately.

Old vs new. If you can do it it's best to have both. I have an 1987 Targa and it is a unique experience vs my 2016 Boxster Spyder (911 engine) but I love them both and need both for a more complete experience. Good videos man!

That is great! I believe you when you say the "old" is a unique and positive experience and distinct from the new. I just love my buddy's 1991 Turbo! So much character and that sound is so unique. But the grass is always greener. He looks over at my GTS with admiration. Maybe that's the way we can have both! We enjoy each other's cars when we need a different "fix"!

Thinking about adding an elevated console lid arm rest at about $550 to my C4GTS. The new C4GTS comes with it as standard. Expensive for the item. What do you think?
@Joe_Hutchinson
@Joe_Hutchinson 7 жыл бұрын
Elevated console lid arm rest? I am not familiar with how the .2 arm rest differs from the .1 version. In the photos I have access to on Porsche's site, the .2 looks so similar to the .1. If it makes you more comfortable, go for it. As long as it doesn't impede your driving.

Joe, you have some great insightful videos here. I've watched both your first 911.1 vs 911.2 along with this follow up. But I have to say that I am a bit confused. How on earth can you list these videos as "comparison" videos when you freely admit that you've never driven a 911.2? Look, I am also a "car guy" always have been, but when I make comparisons, I believe it's important to make comparisons on actual experience rather than "hear say". Over the years I have had 3 911's, an "84 Carrera (which for investment reasons I wish I still had) a 2007 Carrera 4 S, and most recently a 2017 Carrera S. I have loved all of them, however, having put several thousand miles on each of the two earlier ones and nearly 500 miles on the new on, I can say hands down that my new 2017 Carrera S is by far and away the best Carrera I have ever had my hands on! It is a drivers car like no other! Your GTS is a great machine, and I can appreciate your hesitation about trading it on a new one. But if you're going to make comparisons that are believable, please actually drive a new 911.2 and then provide your comments based on that experience. Thank you.

Joe, granphite blue looks killer with the new black wheels that the 991.2 offers. Saw one on the floor here in Pa Mainline. My GTS is Mexico blue and gets a lot of attention at cars and coffee here in west Chester. Interesting that people are not brave enough to choose the colors that they love because of what other people think and thusly has effect on resale. I keep my cars for the long haul and ordered a PTS car because I wanted a car as spectacular as this GTS in the color that I love and never get board of it. I guess an option is wrapping if resale is an issue but that felt fake to me. Like giving your wife a CZ ring.u can see my car in a cars and coffee video by " don't call me bob " if you wish. It's a time lapse which is pretty cool on our meets.I have enjoyed your videos and unpretentious and insightful reviews

I agree with you, I think if you are buying a car, any car, get it the way YOU want it, not the way the next owner wants it. I don't want to sound dismissive of resale because I suppose it's a factor. But my feeling is if you are speccing the car you should get it the way that will make you happy. Especially at this price point. Hey, I will check out that video for sure. And thanks for watching!

Real car enthusiasts are definitely very genuine. Doesn't matter how wealthy they are. Two quick examples from our local car show out near Seattle: 1) A man we actually made good friends with who owns a '91 Testarossa, '97 C4S and 944 Turbo. He is super friendly, always loves to share stories and talk to people about his Ferrari (that he brings to the shows), lets people sit in it, and took me for about a half an hour ride in it to lunch. 2) Greg Whitten- fmr Microsoft and billionaire car collector is very open to sharing with people about his collection and the different details and stories about them and events he's been to over the years. These are just 2 examples but I've definitely found this to be true that car people are extremely nice
@Joe_Hutchinson
@Joe_Hutchinson 7 жыл бұрын
I love that. For the first time I went to a few local cars and coffee meets and it was so much fun hanging out and talking to folks about their cars, my car, other folks cars and even cars the local folks don't even own. If there are mechanical or car care issues, there is usually someone around who could speak on the issue and offer helpful advice. And we can talk about topics beyond cars too but I find that people who are passionate about cars tend to be very friendly folks.

Joe Hutchinson I take delivery March 17, I just can't decide on a colour, the dealership would like me to choose a colour to sample but I can't decide. I have chosen black interior with alcantara seat inserts/steering wheel and gear knob the same as our GTS's with yellow stitching and yellow dials and seatbelts. The exterior is so far GT Silver with high gloss black aero turbo body kit. I like your grey is it Agate Grey? What colour do you like? Thoughts on the new Graphite Blue?

Hi Joe, I had a 2014 and sold it for a 2015 GT3. Sold the 14 because of the engine replacement. The GT3 is a bit different than the GTS with respect to a more visceral feel for me, and more track focused. I wanted the GTS, one because it's a great daily driver and I have 2 boys. I am lucky enough to drive both of them to school everyday in the GTS, and they love it!. I wanted the NA GTS, not the new 991.2 turbo. Not a turbo guy. The GM at Porsche of San Diego also said the depreciation for the 991.2 will be much greater than a NA GTS. I will keep the GTS and possibly add the 2018/2019 991.2 GT3 RS. You made the best move with buying the GTS, if I had to choose only one, the GT3 or GTS, it would be without any hesitation the GTS. Thank you, Rock
@Joe_Hutchinson
@Joe_Hutchinson 7 жыл бұрын
That all makes total sense to me. I totally get that a GT3 would have a more visceral feel. Wow, if you add a GT3 RS to your stable, you will have the best of both worlds! One of the best sports cars ever made in the RS plus the usability and fun of a GTS. Amazing combination!

The difference between the 993 values and 991.1 values is rarity. They barely sold any 993’s, finding one in a specific spec is futile endeavor. They made hundreds of thousands of 991.1’s, plenty of supply to go around and they’re also very reliable and unlikely to go through heavy attrition.

No question, the 991.2 GT3 is a great car. I'd love to track one of those. It would be a blast down a country road. Maybe one day in the future. For my use right now, doing long distance drives as well as those fun things in the country/autocross, I'll stick with the GTS. More all around use, which fits my needs right now. But that GT3 is super awesome!

KEEP YOUR CAR! IT'S IN A CLASS OF IT'S OWN! There's a reason why I bought mine at that time and not a Turbo. The only way I would sell my 2016 911 GTS is to buy a newer Naturally Aspirated GTS. That is if Porsche would make one again. Which I serious doubt it will ever do. ENJOY your car! Tony

The arguments about holding or increasing value are always silly. Yes, air cooled went up after the change to water cooled. Yes, 997 will hold value better or increase because it's the last of the smaller body and hydraulic steering. Yes, 991 will hold value or increase because of last of the NA cars. Yes, 991.2 will hold value TOO or increase because it will one day be the last of the non hybrid or electric or.......goes on and on.
