30+ years of 911 ownership. I own both generation now and without a doubt the (high optioned) 991.2 generation is built better with higher end materials. My (high optioned) 992 feels like a step backwards in the cabin with the black plastic and black inserts on the steering wheel and the Covid manufacturing issues has nothing to do with its quality or subpar design. The new door handles on my 992 feels like crap and so unPorsche 911 like. The 991.2 has a much higher “wow” factor to the cabin with the aluminum on the steering wheel and door handles. If it looks like metal or leather on the 991.2, it is. Porsche went a bit too modern looking with the 992 and the materials used to do this don’t look as high end for a $165k vehicle. It’s not like my 992 feels cheap but the 991.2 feels and looks significantly more expensive. FYI: I have owned about them all and the 996 was appalling with the 997 right next to it in cheap build materials and quality. The 991 is worlds away better in every possible category with the 991.2 a step even higher and IMO still the highest quality modern 911 you can buy. We will see if Porsche follows suite with the upcoming 992.2 stepping it up to the 991.2 standards of build quality and materials. I probably will sell the 992 end of the year and keep my 991.2 forever. The interior and exterior of the 991.2 is sexy as hell and just better looking than the 992. It’s really the goat of modern 911s IMO.

I am lucky enough to own a 991.2 GTS , and I admit that every time I see a well spec'd 992, I have a little bit of FOMO. Now, it is a quite a bit less. Thank you!

Appreciated. I've owned a 993, 997 and now 992. Best build quality was without equivocation the 993. The leather, glass gauges, wool carpet, sound system, etc. Felt more robust. The 992 build is slightly concerning. Feel like I'm stepping on eggshells when I'm in it, what I touch and how I touch it.

My experience of 992 ownership was this: fabulous engineering - the car was a joy to drive; high perceived quality; poor actual quality. There were far too many cheap parts - cost cutting everywhere. The thing rattled like a child’s toy so I got rid of it.

That is so crazy. I haven't sat in either one but have been watching ALOT of content of these 2. And I said to myself. The 991 interior just looks nicer and 992 looks very golf. Then I thought I'll laugh at myself once I see it in person. It's Porsche there's no way it's a step back. Was I wrong hahaha. I actually like the dash dials in the 991 yet absolutely love screens over gauges in other cars.

Oh no, I just sold my 2012 Turbo S and got a 2022 Turbo S that hasn't actually come to my house yet as it's getting paint protection film. All these loose parts that seem like low quality on the 992 you tested. Interesting and disconcerting. Hope my particular car isn't as bad. Thanks for the video.... I think.

Nice video, Interesting comparison, I own a 992 ( first Porsche ) and I don’t feel like the cabin feels cheap, the window buttons do feel a bit flimsy / cheap but overall the cabin does feel and smell like what you would expect in a high end sports car. I don’t think folks buy these cars for the cup holders. If VW needs to save a few pennies on cup holders and invest more in the flat 6 twin turbos- I’m all for it!

I have owned 2 x 991, and now i collect the second 992 ( gts after S ) and i totally agree with this video: 991 quality , specially the cabin , its far better. 992 quality its delusion for me, poor quallity materials, and lots of rattling noises at the door panels

Just got a Turbo S Cab and I'm not liking the 992 interior. I have two annoying rattles, you can't see the outer gauges through the steering wheel, too much had to be done through the infotainment system and it's too far from the driver. The 991.2 interior is more intimate and everything is where it should be. The only good thing is the 992 cup holder is better.

I came from a 991.2 to a 992 and have only had it a few months. While the updated interior is nice to look at, I admit I’ll be selling the car to go back to a 991.2 because of all the buzzing/rattling all over inside the 992…

Yeah, I own a 992 turbo s. It doesn't creak like this and the passenger cup holder releases without an issue. If you go out of your way to bend parts around in ways a normal driver would never do, you're going to eventually make it look cheap. I will take the better handling 992 over the 991.2 every time.

When I got my 991.2, the interior felt very Corolla-like. Nothing more, nothing less. The alcantara headlining looked ‘dollar-store’ like, compared to my 20 year old TVR Cerbera. But then you drive the hell out of it a few times and you realize that the interior just has to be functional, because the real pleasure is the handling, the gearshift and the howl at 9k…

that's bullshit, I own 992 and I own gt4 981 which essentially have the same interior as 991.2, and clearly, your 992 example have been disassembled perhaps numerous times or even has been in an accident. None of this you have shown happens with dashboard, turn signals or cupholder in 992.

The 992 interior is a throw back to the pre-996 generation interiors. I love the look of the 992 interior, perfect balance between modern and retro. This video is hot garbage. No part of my interior flexes, creaks or move like that, including the side marker light. I’ve been around a lot of 992’s (driven a handful separate from mine on track and street, my retired dad has one as well) and other prior gen 911’s. As far as modern and plastic interiors are concerned, the 992 is no worse than any of the other 991’s, 997’s or 996’s in build quality. Have you seen a 996 interior, friggin looks like a ford Taurus. If you go back far enough in time and consider the build of an interior where there is a lot of exposed metal and minimal plastic, then sure it won’t flex much. But these cars are worlds apart in evolution to their counterparts. No car nowadays is similar to the interiors of the past and that is a great thing for comfort and practicality. Not sure what the point of this video is. I understand if someone subjectively doesn’t like the appearance of a particular interior but the build quality, fit and finish of the 992 is excellent. I’m reminded of this every time I get in any current Asian or American car builder vehicles. Porsche is still extremely high quality. I’m saying this as an owner of a 992 gts and a cayenne coupe, both are fantastic!

The 992 not only is ugly but really nothing more than a very expensive VW GTI. It’s a fail.

I own a 991.2 Turbo S 2018 - and to be 100% honest with you, it‘s a squeaks a lot in the interior. Just google "My Quest for a Rattle/Buzz/Creak/Squeak-Free 991.2 Interior" In general quality in cars went down the last 20 years. I‘ve had a Audi SQ5 first gen (2013) and now a second gen (2020). The first one was way better, less hard-plastic, absolutely no issues.. And tbh it felt way more solid than the Porsche..
