Thanks for posting! My last oil change was a nightmare! This is, by far, the best video out there!

I just did an oil change and rotated the oil filter housing with filter vertically 180 degrees after all the oil drained out through the 1/2” drain tube. Removed the rubber seal/ring with a metal dental tooth pick, installed new seal and filter rotated 180 degrees again and reinstalled without removing housing. I don’t know if anyone has tried this before but saved me a lot of time and effort.

I thought about doing this. I may have to give this a try next time

My understanding (could be wrong) of the idea behind replacing the oil filter housing is due to there being a spring valve in the bottom of the housing that is normally closed, but will open to ensure oil gets to the engine (bypassing the filter) during start up. Over time that spring weakens and stays cracked open, allowing unfiltered oil into the engine during normal operation. Side note: it’s crazy how much more involved a 718 oil change is to the 981😳.

Thanks so much for that info! I'll have to do some research in that but your explanation makes sense👍👍

I have a 2010 987.2 Cayman S and I replaced the drain plug with a (quality product) ValvoMax oil change system (quick twist oil drain) thread size is M18 - 1.50. You would need to make an access hole in the underbody panel, unless you still want to remove it. If you want to make the removal of the underbody panel easier (long term) replace the bolts with studs (Loctite Blue) to the underbody and use some flanged nuts to hold the panel in place. If you can find the necessary parts the oil filter could be relocated to a place that's easier to access. I have an LN Engineering filter adaptor in my Cayman and you'd need to know if that could be installed in your application. This would require an additional adapter to run AN fittings and hoses out to the remote filter assembly. The factory oil canister will embrittle due to heat cycling over time and if there's any chance that it cracks, the oil will be pumped out of the system in seconds. Hope this helps and any of this may make this easier in the long run for you, best 🙏🙏🙏.

Thanks so much for all that info! I'll have to look into this. I'm guessing the oil canister will have to be somewhere in the boot now?

@@lsturbointeg You'll have to look for a place down low where the access is better for servicing.

Great video, can I ask what spoiler you have on back and where did you get it from, also did you add a diffuser/splitter on front ?

Thanks for watching! I have the Composite Concepts GT4 carbon fiber wing with custom Porsche Mod Squad risers. Rear diffuser is from TAKD and I have the Techart front cf spoiler to balance the aero.
