This is one of the best 911 rally collections Ive seen and Ive seen many. Already in the opening scene you can see Zeltner’s awesome technique, trailing in to a right, smooth transition to left power oversteer and a quick flick turn to right. You can also see some common 911 mistakes by various drivers, like missing the threshold after which you can not get it back (once even with Zeltner). You can also hear the Dobberkau signature mistake - going against rev limiter almost every time and especially after 1st and 2nd gear corners. One typical GT3 problem is a tight corner which is too fast for 1st but too slow for 2nd gear combined with too long gearing. Zeltner uses very short gearing, probably Cup 4:1 final drive and the shortest options on individual gears. No other rally car captures my attention in the same way as the 911 does because when you get it right it loos so beautiful but to get it right is not so easy. The old Alpine A110 is marvellous too but you can see that it is a lot lighter car than 911 and also (even) smaller. I got a 996 C2 myself and I work with cars, aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics - so I tend to know and recognize things. One day Im going to Sachsenring and will buy a couple of tuition laps from Zeltner. He is in my opinion the all time most technical 911 driver, very smooth and disciplined. On track the likes of Gregg, Rast, Bergmeister, Ammemuller and Kern were/are probably faster but no one is as technical and perfect as Ruben - IMO.

Why is there only 997 gt3 generation and not a single 991? Serious question, I've been wondering for a while.
@42EForest4 жыл бұрын
I would guesst that the 991 is 'to new'. So people rely on the predecessor. At least in Germany and in WRC the newer regulations are not very attractive for cars like a Porsche. It may be not worth to use an expensive new model.

@Gentleman...Driver4 жыл бұрын
@Gentleman...Driver4 жыл бұрын
@BastianKH4 жыл бұрын

Why is nobody racing a turbo with 4WD?
@42EForest4 жыл бұрын
In those Porsches? To be short: There are regulations 😁 Cars are categorized by cylinder capacity and other criterion. Your car has to fit in a certain category. A turbocharged Porsche with 600hp and 4wd would not fit in one of those categories. But there are other cars that use turbo and 4wd.

I am not sure if I can support driving classic Porsches in rallies. To me it is like hanging an Original Rembrandt painting in a fitness center for decoration. True the painting was meant to decorate, but....

I can sympathyze on what you say to some degree, but it’s better to see these classic beasts been driven hard than being locked inside a rich guy’s garage for months as ‘collectors item’.
