Due to the great response from my first video of 'Still Alive' ( • Portal's 'Still Alive'... ) here's 'Want you Gone' from Portal 2!
Everything you see and hear is 100% real and all made by the laser beam interacting with the steel. Changes in the sizes of the rectangles make the different pitches. I know some notes are out of tune but it's the best the laser can do. This video is a composite of two separate videos - one for the bass and one for the melody. The end result is a plate with the finished logo. If I had two lasers next to each other I could make them play both parts together; but I don't.
Please excuse the harshness and tone of the audio. I am working on getting some better sound recording equipment due to the Automatic Gain Control of the camera's microphones. When there is a break in the music it amplifies the signal so you get to hear the background noise but once it starts playing again it is too loud and has to be backed off. Annoying.

@@echomercc well, I can't speak for him but for me, it feels like I'm watching history-... Like this video is a historic video of a person playing want you gone with a fiber laser... From 8 years ago... It also shows that peeps on YT were more about having fun etc with whatever they (mostly) wanted to do then drama etc. (I don't mind drama since I like watching drama just like the next guy... But it's nice to sometimes go pretty much back in time and watch videos that are either A. Nostalgic or B Historic etc, etc.)

So this guy basically sat down making logos with his lasers, and realizes that he can change the temperature to produce the different pitch on the metal plate (i think that's what happens)

Bill Nye The Gaming Guy ***** Both wrong. The frequency of the actual laser scan is what determines the frequency of the sound(duh), because you're blasting off a bit of metal at a specific pps. That can change multiple parameters, like pulse power, and some other stuff that isn't really that important here. That's why the image is so ugly and inconsistent.

Wow... this song never fails to bring so many emotions to me. I played portal 2 on the XBox 360 when I was 8 or 9. It was my absolute favorite game. It still is. This song just makes me so happy and so sad at the same time, because it made me realize that everyone must die at some point, but I will never forget this game. Well, you know what they say...Valve can't count to three...but I have good news: the portal 2 community can! It's called Thinking With Time Machine (TWTM), and it's free if you have Portal 2 , but unfortunately I think it's only available through Steam.

I don't think it does. I believe that's just your brain hearing music and changing the pitch. Especially if you heard the song before.

Those aren't double lasers, those are 2 different plates of metal being burnt into at different times, but having the sound and picture laid over one another. Still cool though.
