We are in the middle of winter and as usual, I am reading one fantasy after another, so I am kind of in an epic fantasy mood. :D
When I was a teenager I used to write fantasy stories on the internet. In my first novel, the opening of portals to different worlds threw everything out of balance the consequences slowly snowballing, and the book opens hundreds of years later when collapse seems inevitable.
So magical portals are still one of my favorite tropes.
