We have 30% of F35s not in spintac and mission ready. And all they need to show to make it “Mission Ready” is to fly it in the pattern around the base and land it. That gives it 90 more days until it goes into SPINTAC. We flew Skyhawks with half the instruments in the panel just to show we were “mission ready” As soon as the plane landed it went back into the hanger.. broken

isn't it amazing that the 'appropriate' people, relatable to the subject being checked, are called in to testify in THEIR areas of 'expertise', yet every damned one of them has to "defer the question", or respond "I'll have to get back to you on that"! Isn't if so blatantly obvious that they are simply trying to obfuscate their responses? These hearings are good and necessary, but they NEVER seem to accomplish anything other than giving these 'expert witnesses' a chance to slide without ever answering a single question. It seems that our government is wasting MILLIONS of our dollars on these incredibly tiresome hearings, when we all know (as these politicians also know, I would presume) there will never be a clear answer to 99% of their questions.

When buying an expensive piece of engineering, one needs to ask the Seller, what is the demonstrated, or in the F35's case calculated, "Up Time" ??? Then you next ask the Seller what are the modes of failure ??? Until one has acceptable aswers to those questions, you DO NOT sign the contract. Cost of the F35 is quoted as $150 - $ 200 MILLION USD each. However as its "Service availability" is 48% then you can effectively double that to $300 to $400 MILLION USD each, as you are going to need twice as many to ensure close to 100% Service availability or "Up Time". Then you are going to need twice as many aircraft carriers, pilots, maintenance personnel etc., etc. to maintain them. Maybe the USA should be buying military jets made by Toyota, as they have a track record of in service reliability and "up time"

Take population density of all states, take land mass and then consider the ratio to spending. California accounts for over 30% of our country’s GDP, with 4 of the 7 trillion dollar companies headquartered in the state. In the last few years, all red states but one took money from the federal government while New York & California shared surpluses. The data is certainly not against California.

Actually this particular plane is planned to become the main strike aircraft of the Navy, so they better know its logistics details. Some questions are indeed not good. "Why did you make this engine this heavy?" Well, this particular engine has record-breaking thrust to deliver necessary performance for F35, so it's not like they could just shrink it down on a whim.

It is a leader’s job to ask the high-level integration questions. Lower level engineers focus on their work without worrying how it fits together as a whole. What she shows here is the lack of consideration for the overall integration, nor acknowledgement that problems even exist. Leadership has descended into being the fish that defense contractors catch, and she’s making it clear why they are failing to do their jobs as they come advocating for more money.
