Porting a Throttle Body (Worth it?)

In this video I ported an LS throttle body. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference in power as some people have claimed. Some also have claimed that there is an increased throttle response, but I already have a throttle controller so I was not able to feel a noticeable difference. I would say that this is worth it because it wouldn't hurt and it is practically free.

Nice, ported throttle body usually gives better throttle response and better mpg slightly. Got alot of haters in your comments that seem to think only major mods pick up HP lol. Trust me, it takes pennies to make a dollar. Porting the intake manifold and the heads will give the full package. It takes all of the parts working together to maximize gains but even as a stand alone mod a ported throttle body is still worth doing. Seat of the pants you won't feel much but a dyno might show you 5hp, the track might show you a few hundredths but most of all the smoothness of throttle response is a good start to getting a car that delivers power smoothly and strongly. It's not about getting MORE volume air in its about getting the air to flow with higher *velocity*. Ported throttle body is a good start.

Yes!!! I ported my manifold to TB intake, port matched the intake runners to match up with the manifold spacer!

@@dragan3290 I swapped a fully ported top end on my truck and it was a world of difference above 60mph and throttle response and smoothness was also much much better at any rpm

I have a ecotec v6 3.8 in my Holden commodore and I ported the throttle body, intake manifold to suit. Already put a 25 mm manifold spacer and a 10 mm plenum spacer. Felt great until I ported the gm throttle body. Funnel effect to the Max. I had a 10 mm massive raised edge on the inside of TB. After removing all the crap and polishing to a mirror finish? Less carbon. Jumpy off the mark like I never expected! Took my time and beautiful. My v6 rated at 303 NM and 152 kw. I reeled in an sv6 with apparent 190 kw, and 350 NM! SV6 IS A BS rating. It was a Ute and I have a lot of mechanical tools in a sedan. Only problem is driving in the wet.lol. very tail happy. Top video! Works like a charm.cheers from Australia! I need a custom tune. Yours should be jumpier off the mark. But my TB WAS restricted bigtime. Time it with a stop watch. I gained 2 seconds at 0 to 100 kmh.

The intake and heads would need to be ported as well or ultimately nothing significant about your flow changes, all the path needs to be addressed not just part of it, so - there's that Also a little lube or that plate would of made it much easier to install. Good video tho.

Always put a dab of medium loctite in those screws. Otherwise vibration could loosen and be ingested

Love the video. The 87 mm throttle body flows up to around 1000cfm with the stock casting and the 90 mm ones flow about 1100 cfm. They are not a restriction for most lightly modded engines but when needed it’s great to break out the tools and grab some extra cfm for just a little bit of time.

That plate in the throttle body can use a knife edge. Then you'll notice a difference.

I've seen Camaro 5 forum. Members gained 12 wheel horsepower with a ported throttle body. But they had other supporting mods too.

i have a throttle cable and an idle control valve, does my throttle body have a resting idle position? if not how would i go about avoiding those redzones

I see all the arguments. When I had a 77 rabbit, my top speed was abotu 78mph. Then somebody said remove the neck in the throttle body that provides venturi signal to PCV. Had shop remove it, gained nearly 20MPH top speed. "Roll raced" a later model GTI, and he asked me what I had in the car! That' s why I wonder why opening up the neck in the intake wouldnt' make a noticiable difference. is it because the rabbit had a 95ish hp 4 popper?

u need to do the air diverter shaft grind it flat plus the mods u did , thats wat we do to our e55 amg TB it worx great

Hook up a vacuum/ boost gauge! My 3.8 v6 ecotec after ported and polished throttle body made my car instantly jumpy. Smoother airflow! I nailed the gas around a corner from rolling at walking speed and before swung sideways and straightened out! After the TB ? Well. It swung left and right that im like WTF???

It’s different I think with a DBW which all Vettes ls1 up have DBW. 97+ ls1/ls2/ls3/ls6/ls7/ls9/etc. a lot of other ls1 applications were DBC (drive by cable) which porting that 75mm mechanical over your DBW 90mm here in the vid will prolly yield better results. I think the TB on the ls2 is already pretty legit. The ls1 75mm have that gnarly lip before the throttle plate bore.

Up thumb for the Pup! Cleaning your throttle body was the best idea behind this whole vid. Taking all that material off the throttle body will give you very minimal benefit if any at all, and you have a possibility of dinking something up! Yeah, but all this did keep you out in the garage and not inside on some stupid gaming console...*Wrench On!*

The ECU does not tune itself when you modify anything. You need a tune before and a tune after the mod. That way you would know what´s it worth.

ECU on my vx ecotec does remap to a certain extent! I need a Remap from mace engineering tho. But I need a 70 mm butterfly so I can machine my TB to 700 mm.

Yeah man you prob know it but save that tune money until you get bigger mods that actually need it to be tuned imo intake and ported throttle dont need much of a tune and youll prob see minimal gains vs doing heads,intake manifold, cam, headers

You didn't polished the throttle body. Get yourself some Mother's Aluminum polish, and a polishing wand on a high speed drill. And would bring it to a mirror finish.

When you get a Supercharger kit???or you need still saving for it...bro till know all your Mods are BS..i see you still got the stock Radiator and shocks..better do it right or keep.it stock,but outside it looks nice.🤔👍

I have BC racing coilovers and a supercharger is not cheap, unless you want to buy it for me! I don’t plan on racing it so there isn’t really a need for me to go boosted as of right now. It’s my car I can modify it however I want to 🤣 Plus some other people had good results from porting their throttle body so it’s not total BS
