Young people use to ‘come to Portland to retire’ 10+ years ago, a’la ‘The Dream on the 90s’ from Portlandia. It hasn’t been that way in a loooong time. Though still affordable compared to other major costal cities, cost of living has skyrocketed year after year. In 2010 an apartment goin for $600 is now $1600 and up.

I’m from the Portland area. I must say it did get crazy around here but it’s nothing scary these days. Back in mid April I went to the Carolinas for a spring break vacation. People at the bars were asking for my Id so they saw I’m from Portland and omg they kept scaring me. Telling me how my city was burning down that week I was gone and I got worried. Called my family to ask and oh my god it was nothing too crazy. Just the media blows everything out of proportion. Very sad how everyone all over thinks Portland is a war zone.

I know I am not the only one to think this it's pronounced, Wil-lam-atte not wil-a-mette. Also to the friendliness, you aren't getting people that are actually from Portland Oregon in Portland anymore. Most of us that grew up in the area live in other states or outside by the city now. We have been priced out and taken over. The homegrown Oregonians enjoy the rain or at the very least don't mind it. It's the people that took over that don't like the colder rainer months. It's actually funny because when it's rains the transplants are like, "oh it rains so much!" When it's no where near as rainy and cold as it used to be. Good repping Pepinos as well. Good prices and good food. Used to live by there. Try the Surf and turf you won't regret it

I live in Downtown Portland. It is finally coming back! I am so happy to see my downtown emerging from the horrible year it went through. A lot of work still needs to be done, but many things have reopened, lots of boards came down from windows, and foot traffic has really jumped. The homeless problem is still very visible, unfortunately, (especially in Old Town/Chinatown) but the city is building villages where they will have to relocate to by fall. Downtown has been cleaned up significantly too. I think a year from now it will be back to normal. I have hope for my city again.

The damage done by the protesters and rioters can still be seen around 3rd Ave. near the Justice Center and some are still there at night. And you nailed it when you are eating at Pepino's. That's one of the best place for Mexican food. One of the main problem here are the homeless or some public officials call them as (Unhoused Residents), God bless them.'

When the Pandemic hit Portland, it was destroyed. So many businesses closed, so many jobless, subsequent homeless, and eventually penniless Portlanders using Meth to escape the pains of reality and then die unhappy. It'll take about 10 or so years for Portland to be back to it's Pre-Pandemic days, but the next challenge is getting office workers (working from home) back into the thousands of abandoned office buildings downtown

Street racing is legal in Portland. So if you have the IQ of a fence post and dream of being Vin Diesel going vroom vroom in your little car, Portland is the place to be! No cops, no tickets, no speed limits. Thanks Portland City Council!

Mississippi is a nice walk and never overcrowded when I go...restaurants, food carts, cannabis, burgers, donuts everything!! So peaceful! And yes the media overhyped the “destruction” just like they did in Seattle. I go to both often and while a lot of the people are progressives, I haven’t seen anything over the top, I feel safe. I enjoyed this video! Also some of Twilight was filmed in and around the area, check out the filming locations. Were they still doing construction on the Tom McCall waterfront? Pittock Mansion, Shanghai Tunnels... I wish the Grilled Cheese Grill was still open. The food carts are amazing. Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah Falls, Rocky Butte... The Grotto, Mount Tabor Park (The York Sculpture) the man who doesn’t get credit for helping Lewis and Clark on the expedition....St. John’s Bridge just to name another few places...and they have some great parks!!! Check them out everyone!!

What's with all the commentless links to Portland-hate videos in an apolitical travel guide video? Now, I get that in the Year of Our Lord 2021 it's illegal among the American Right to say anything good about Portland (or Seattle, Chicago, New York, or anywhere in California), but this is rather petty. It does kinda promote the current liberal stereotype that most conservative posters on YT are Russian spambots.

Thank you! Fox News was really blowing up the negative rhetoric. Last time I was there I had a great time and very peaceful. I'm from Chicago and it's not that bad here either just takes some thick skin to live in big cities. I will be back again.

When I lived in the Mississippi Corridor back in the late 90's, it was the edge of the inner city, they started gentrifying there in early 1998, now the hipsters have taken over and displaced most of the generations of Minorities.
