Using Loomis to draw the head in different angles.
Please let me know if this would be a good idea or not a good idea for up coming videos. I love this book and enjoy drawing from it to get the fundamentals ingrained. This book has helped me draw people better.
*Update: Free Book link and my old website no longer available... the book company came for me and I had to pull the links to the book.

Hey Brad, I have been watching these beginning vids as part of my daily practice, for a few weeks. It reminds of going to music class trying impress people with my speedy riffs and my teacher telling me:" great, but can you play Bach Sarabande? " hmm..ne.."how about a few scales slowly..hmm..couldnt do it, Miles?...then you start all over....play a tone at a time an make it mean something...this is really hard ,but necessary foundations for those who haven't done it..I would strongly urge anybody wanting to do drawing to stick with it for a year to the point when you look at the result after a coffee break and it still looks ok, your eye has now been trained to see properly, something beginners dont know, including me....thanks Brad, really great work

Hello bradwynn, nice to see you drawing again. I would like to give you an idea for your next drawing. Since you draw rather realisitc stuff wich seems to be your comfort zone, what would you think about, drawing a fictional character. Like Kain, the godfather of all vampires. But in your own interpretation, you can use reference fotos if you want but id much rather see you create in it in your imagination but of course its up to you. This can be very challanging, and it might turn you off^^

When I do little figure sketches I keep finding I make the heads too small. I think it gets better with practice and I need to find more time to practice figure quick sketch. Are the shoulders generally 2 head lengths apart? ... I found this reference link... comicbookcreativehub.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/anatomy-Fig-1.jpg

Bradwynn Jones Thanks, very useful. Yes, sometimes I do them too small, but the worst part is the features and trying to draw a couple of lines that look like eyes or noses, etc... As a hobbyist I can more or less get a likeness in a full A5 size portrait, but when it comes to giving a head to a figure... it's very depressing. Again, thanks for your videos, I find them very instructive and illustrative at the same time.

104 104 if you're more interested in fine art and painting I would say to go with charcoal. I always used to draw with my wrist and after using charcoal and newsprint I found that I was actually a much easier dynamic way to draw, and even when I had a regular old pencil it was more comfortable to hold it like he does. Check out the Watts Atelier website!
