Just bought the OLY 45/1.8 (barely used in its box, USD160) to compliment my current arsenal of M4/3 lenses (i.e. Lumix 20/1.7, Lumix 12-32 kit, Lumix 12-60 kit, Lumix 45-100, and OLY 75-300 zoom). I also have plenty of adapted vintage lenses, with or without focal reducer, to use from time to time. The IBIS with the GX9 and G81 make pairing with non-OIS lenses, like the OLY's and vintage glass, a joy. Can't wait to use this 45/1.8 for family portraits, etc.

Thanks for the video :) I have ordered this camera and will have a 12-60mm lense only. Is it still possible to take good portrait shots with this? I am fairly new to photography. Thank you!
@naturesimagephotography

Yes you can take some nice portraits with that lens. Shoot at 60mm with the aperture wide open. Your backgrounds won't be as soft as with the lens you saw in this video but you should still get some nice results.

Andrew, this was fantastic. I use my G9 primarily for video, but this video has given me a great starting point when it comes to the settings. I'm lucky enough to own the Olympus 42.5mm f1.7 that you shoot with. Your work is always great and that's why I follow this channel. Oh are you aware of the new firmware upgrade coming to the G9 in June? Version 2.4 is going to adapt the AF technology used in the S5 and GH5ii models.

So then do you prefer the Oly 45 f/1.8 to the Pana 42.5 f/1.7, or did you happen to buy the 45 f/1.8 a while back and just kept it cause it works well?

I was offered the Olympus second hand (but in almost-new condition) at a great price so I grabbed the opportunity while it was there. Since then I haven't needed any other lens for portraits so I haven't shopped around, and I really can't compare my lens to another one I have not owned or used.

Hello. I thought this video was really helpful. Thanks a lot. I am trying to figure out my perfect settings. How large do you make the AF Area? I don’t only want the face to be sharp. I want the whole person. Do i make it as large as possible or is that wrong?
@naturesimagephotography
@naturesimagephotography 2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter how many focus points you use, the camera can only focus on one distance at a time. Your question is about depth of field which is affected by lens, distance and aperture. Take a look at my video about depth of field: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z9V5ldma35fDfp8.html

Hallo! Did you get these beautiful colours from Lightroom????
@naturesimagephotography
@naturesimagephotography 2 жыл бұрын
I do all my processing in Adobe Camera Raw / Photoshop. But getting great colour starts with shooting in good light so that you start with a good original. Then the editing is done with a very light touch.

Shooting raw, yeah but if you're using Adobe to convert then you're getting a poor conversion because they don't understand the Panasonic "Extended-RAW" CR2 files. Silkypix is about the only editor that can be assured to convert the CR2 correctly, even then the result will not be the same as the in-camera. Besides which the in-camera firmware has moved on so far that it exceeds the capability of post editors. Shoot raw+jpeg. Set the camera up to shoot the best jpeg, then if you do need to fix it you can edit it lossless and have the raw for emergency. If the jpeg is rubbish then the raw is too. I change Exposure mode a lot and have put that on Fn2. Q.Menu I use very little and have shifted that to Fn10. I change the exposure compensation +/-EV a lot even in Auto-ISO and have that on the back wheel in M-Manual Mode. The Photo-Styles are customisable and can be fiddled with to give you a 'film look'.

Is MFT so greater depth of field f1.8 is equivalent to f3.6 on FF for but same light gathering for exposure. I use both, for some use cases the extra DoF is great like Macro or low light environmental portraits. FF is better for shallow DoF and dynamic range but not for every use case. IBIS is still way better on MFT so while you can't use as high ISO with still subjects you mostly don't need to. You can also make much smaller and cheaper fast lenses for MFT but my Sony A7iii isn't going anywhere soon. For travel/casual photography I use MFT 90% of the time as there is less resistance to taking it with me where the alternative would be my phone not FF. I can carry a GX9, 2 fast primes and a tiny tele zoom in jacket pockets and hardly notice them. I'm so happy we have choices 😊

when you are photographing two people you are using face detection and both people are in focus?
@naturesimagephotography
@naturesimagephotography 4 жыл бұрын
The squares show you that the focus is tracking the two faces. The green square shows which face is directly in focus, usually the face nearest to the camera. I would encourage both subjects to stay close to each other so they are the same (or almost the same) distance from the camera.

Agreed, I've gotten some usable photos from split second snaps using a Sigma EF 30 mm f/1.4 at f/1.0 via Viltrox adapter with my G9. Panasonic AFS and AFC are quite fast, especially with DFD compatible lenses. Waaaay faster than my a6000 with any native lens combo I have.

Its a 90mm f3 lens though... You can get a cheap D5600 and a Sigma 85mm f1.4DG and get drastically better image quality for the same price. M43's are dumb camera's for photography in terms of pricing to image quality.

@Carrot_Handler
@Carrot_Handler 3 жыл бұрын
@@pilsplease7561 Yes really, don't let KZfaq fool you no one is using m43 for photography because of image quality. It's FF or medium format. And serious video work is done on super 35 or FF. I haven't run into a single professional using m43 in my 15 years in the industry.
@pilsplease7561
@pilsplease7561 3 жыл бұрын
@@Carrot_Handler Ill agree to disagree, I shoot M43 and I shoot APSC exclusively because no benefits exist for me to go over those formats, I dont shoot in low light so I dont care about the low light capabilities of full frame which is not that much better than apsc which is in my opinion the sweet spot for sensors, nor do you need more than 20-30mp for commercial or professional work, any higher just creates more headaches than benefits. Camera tech is pretty irrelevant, the skills of you the photographer matter far more than the tool you use, I can take a film camera from 1930 and get a better image than a lot of people would get with higher end digitals. Just as some people can take digitals and film and shoot better images than I can. At this point its just a fancy numbers game that doesnt really add any benefit when it comes to mp count. Actually the majority of cinema cameras that Ive used and that people I know use, are M43 and Super 35 but more commonly on the lower size sensor wise. Ive run into many people in my 20 years using M43, so maybe you just arent looking hard enough or you dont have many photographers wherever you are in the world.

Shut up. How could u compare 200$ oly lens to 1000$ Sigma. Body doesnt matter. U just hater of MFT.
@Carrot_Handler
@Carrot_Handler 3 жыл бұрын
@@GanaaG the price of the lens and camera combo is same as a g9 and that MFT POS. Stop it fanboys no one is using MFT for real work. Look around you, everyone is using Sony A7s3, Panasonic S1H, Black Magic 6k, Sony FX6 for video and for real portrait work it's Medium format, full frame and some people use Fuji APSC. Stop living in la la land. $1k for G9 and $200 for a crap lens.... You can get a APSC camera for $600-700 and a $400-500 portrait lens and get better DOF and better low light iso performance.
