I have had the Tamron 35mm 1.8 since it came out and I love it. The majority of my lenses are Tamron and I am more than satisfied with all of them. The 35mm stays on my Canon 6D most of the time, as it is just a great everyday , walk-around lens and it makes for a fairly light-weight setup, which is handy when my Nieces decide to play with the camera. Great review.

I am amazed at how many DSLR Camera Users, that do not calibrate their lenses. DSLR Lenses should calibrated. Tamron has Tap Console that has the ability to calibrate the lens and there is a software application "FoCal" that will micro adjust your lens for the Canon and Nikon cameras. I owned that lens and after I microadjusted it to my former camera "Canon EOS 5D Mark IV" with FoCal at f1.8 the accuracy report showed it at 98.1% accurate. Mirrorless camera and lenses do not require calibration because of their auto-focusing system.

Great video as always, your photos are fantastic and it’s always interesting to see the before and after edits. Your presets look really good. It’s great to see you try this lens as it hasn’t had as much coverage as the Sigma. The Tamron 35mm f1.8 is one of my favourite lenses. Aside from the superb image quality, I find it’s close minimum focus distance incredibly useful. I considered switching to the f1.4 after seeing your video but the f1.8 is such a strong performer I’m sticking with it. When I recently switched from Canon to Sony, I kept the Tamron as it’s autofocus performs the same as it did on my 5DIV (in line with your experience) but also worked well with eye detection autofocus (animal and human). Recently, I have added the A7Riv and the lens has no issues with the high resolution sensor.

Great review. Really liked it. Especially since you showed the un edited photo's also. Because as we all know as film photographers use to say "digital photography is the big lie". In other words the photo's shown many times are reprocessed with post software to manipulate the original photo into something that is what some still say is the big lie. Keep up the good work. Really liked it.

I thought mine was having some back focusing issues with 5DM4 and 80D on non-moving subjects. And there was one time that it hunts to focus on not so backlit situations. But thanks for this review Julia. Been waiting for this for a couple of weeks since you posted the Tamron 35mm 1.4 review. I will upgrade soon! And I hope I could download some of the raw images and compare the tamron 1.8 vs 1.4 to see if there's a huge difference.
@juliatrotti
@juliatrotti 4 жыл бұрын
Ah that's a shame, have you tried calibrating it for your camera? I luckily didn't experience any back focus issues with this lens like I mentioned, just a few missed focus shots due to this lens focusing slightly slower than what I'm used to. Both the Tamron 35mm video's I have are up in 4K, so if you load them both in full resolution and full screen, you could possibly alt+tab between 2 photos in each video to compare the difference. I also recorded a comparison video between these 2 lenses too, still working on the edit though so it'll be up soon!

I would personally go for the 1.4 for my professional work (fashion clients and weddings) as it's got a slight edge in terms of sharpness. But for my personal work, travel, portrait shoots I would go for the 1.8 because it's super small and light + sharp enough (as you can see in these photos) for that kind of work!

I am not a professional but I have been trying to decide between this lens and 1.4. Although I can afford the 1.4, as an amateur is the extra cost over the 1.8 justified? i'd say no. the 1.4 has slightly better image quality but its weight might be an issue.
@ralphsaad8637
@ralphsaad8637 Жыл бұрын
The tamron has 2 advantages over the sigma, which are the image stabilization and the minimum focus distance which makes this lens almost a macro lens. I don't know about the sigma 35mm but my 45mm which uses the same optical formula was slightly sharper than the sigma especially in the corners. It also had smoother and more artful bokeh ironically. It had a little more chromatic aberrations though too.

Which one u prefer most for the sharpness and focusing tamron 35 1.8 or 1.4?
@geoffreyenriquez
@geoffreyenriquez 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely the 1.4. I've owned both. The 1.4 has much faster AF and it's sharper. The 1.8 is better for macro-ish shots and light weight.
@juliatrotti
@juliatrotti 4 жыл бұрын
I agree the 1.4 is sharper and faster, but the 1.8 is still pretty sharp! I recorded a comparison video between both these lenses as well. Still working on the edit though, so it'll be up soon!

It's not my lens, so no. But I didn't have any back focus issues with this lens! Just a few missed focus shots due to this lens focusing slightly slower than what I'm used to.

I have this lens but it seems very grainy but I also shot @ f/5.6 do you know if that’s the issue?
@juliatrotti
@juliatrotti 4 жыл бұрын
If you’re using a higher aperture it lets less light into the photo, so you might be raising your ISO to compensate. Using a high iso can cause your images to look grainy depending on what camera body you have. You can try taking some test photos with f1.4 and iso 100 vs f5.6 and iso 1000 or whatever you need for the right exposure and look at the images side by side to see if that’s what’s causing the issue 😊

@juliatrotti
@juliatrotti 3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t but I found performance of other lenses I’ve tried on the 5D4 vs EOS R are very similar. With the EOS R you’d have the added bonus of eye-AF and you wouldn’t have any backfocusing issues either since it’s mirrorless :)

Is it sharp and focus fast?
@juliatrotti
@juliatrotti 4 жыл бұрын
Yep really sharp - this video is in 4K so if you load it at full resolution you should be able to see all the details of the unedited images. Focusing is good, not as fast as the Canon 35mm f1.4 II lens that I'm used to, but there is a big price difference between the 2. So for it to just be a little bit slower is not bad :)
