His lighting was beautiful. But seeing this reminds me that his hand posing was genius. They say so much in many of his portraits.

I had the privilege in 1977 to study under Karsh at an Ansel Adam’s Workshop in Yosemite Valley. He was a true gentleman and an amazing photographer. In technique he and Ansel were opposites. Ansel used the zone system and a spot meter and was very precise in making an image. Karsh was intuitive and did not use a light meter and felt the exposure. Both great artist with different approaches! Both were intense and driven about photography! I also made a B & W portrait of Karsh working with his large format view camera during one of our sessions together. I cherish this image to this day! Thank you for bringing us this photo gallery of his stunning work!

I have run into his name a couple of times but never seen his work. Apart from the portrait of Hemingway that has developed into being "the portrait" og Hemmingway. Exquisite photographer

Karsh was a genius at capturing the essence if whoever was in front of his lens! Joel Ulises is a genius at creating videos which fully express an incredibly wide range of photographic talents. I do so enjoy this wonderful "biovideos!" And I regularly dip into the quotable quotes of the photographers in Joel's wonderful "Through The Lens Inspiring Quotes From Master Photographers." Photography in these troubled and troubling times can be a lonely enterprise and dipping into this book from time to time is like getting your battery recharged!

Remember how I left a comment under your video on Alex Prager, saying that it was not my cup of tea ? Well, this is my cup of tea :) Dramatic lighting, black and white portraiture. Great video (as always) - and amazing photographer (in my very personal and biased opinion) !

I'm glad you like this photographer. There's so much variety in styles that we always end up identifying with one in the end. Enjoy your cup of tea!

@@Joel_Ulises Indeed, we all have preferences, things that resonate more with us. I like black and white a lot more than color, I like portraits more than anything else, and I also like photojournalism. That's why I love some videos you make more than others (like this one, or the one on Nick Brandt, or Eugene Smith, or Walker Evans). It seems that you don't make videos about living photographers, but I'd love to see one on Don McCullin, or David Burnett, someday :)

Thanks for sharing your experience in the world of photography. You're saying I don't make videos of living photographers? It seems like you haven't looked closely at the video list. Steve McCurry, Matt Stuart, Gregory Crewdson, Sebastiao Salgado, William Eggleston, Joel Meyerowitz, and many more are still alive and featured on the channel!!! As for the photographers you mentioned, unfortunately, I won't be uploading any more war photographers. The few I had uploaded, like Don McCullin, James Nachtwey, etc., have been removed, and not only that, but I've also been penalized. So, I'm sorry, but you'll have to find those types of videos elsewhere. David Burnett I think is a good suggestion.

@@Joel_Ulises My apologies for the comment about "living photographers". I had not noticed those you listed, probably because their style of photography (street / color / staged) does not appeal to me at all - Salgado being the exception, obviously. So I didn't watch those videos of yours. My mistake. I'm sorry you encountered trouble after posting videos on war photographers. I can't understand why, but it's sad. I understand why you don't want to do any more of those, considering the time it must take you to make these. David Burnett is one of my all time favourite photographers. Humble, talented, funny, thinking out of the box, still shooting with film and large format... What's not to like ? If you're making a video about him, I'm really looking forward to it :) Keep up the good work, your videos are really of great quality !

Hello Ash! Yes, it's really sad to see the censorship that exists, but fortunately, there are many photographers who are fortunately not subject to censorship. I've noted down the name David Burnett to add to my wish list! Thanks for your understanding, have an excellent weekend! Best regards, Joel Ulises

It’s my understanding that Gina Lollobrigida became a fairly renowned photojournalist herself later in life, but I’m not familiar with her work. It would be great if you could cover her career.
