Lyrics:
Save me, I can't be saved
I won't
I'm a president's son
I don't need no soul
All the soldiers say
"It'll be alright,
We may make it through the war
If we make it through the night."
All the people, they say:
"What a lovely day, yeah, we won the war.
May have lost a million men, but we've got a million more."
All the people, they say.
Share with me all of your pain
I won't
Share your love
I need all your love
All the soldiers say
"It'll be alright,
We may make it through the war
If we make it through the night."
All the people, they say:
"What a lovely day, yeah, we won the war.
May have lost a million men, but we've got a million more."
All the people, they say.
Save me, I can't be saved
I won't
I don't need no love
I'm a president's son
All the soldiers say
"It'll be alright,
We may make it through the war
If we make it through the night."
All the people, they say:
"What a lovely day, yeah, we won the war.
May have lost a million men, but we've got a million more."
All the people, they say
It'll be alright, It'll be alright
It'll be right now
It'll be alright, It'll be alright
It'll be right now
It'll be alright, It'll be alright
It'll be right now
All the people, they say

Portugal. The Man took 2017 by the horns after a considerably long gap, between records. They spent years working on an album called Gloomin + Doomin before later developing what would become known as their latest studio album WOODSTOCK. Fate struck lead singer, John Gourley, twice. First, John got some parental tough love from his old man. “What’s taking so long to finish the album?,” John’s dad asked. “Isn’t that what bands do? Write songs and then put them out?” The whole thing got John thinking about why the band seemed to be stuck on a musical elliptical machine from hell and more importantly, about how to get off of it. Second, John found his dad’s ticket stub from the original 1969 Woodstock music festival, which ultimately knocked something loose in his head. He realized that, in the same tradition of bands from that era, Portugal. The Man needed to speak out about the world crumbling around them.
With these two ideas converging, the band made a seemingly bat-shit-crazy decision: they took all of the work they had done for the three years prior and threw it out. The band went back to the studio - working with John Hill, Danger Mouse and longtime collaborator Casey Bates. In this new-found creative territory, the album that became WOODSTOCK rolled out naturally from there. Fast forward to present day and it was impossible to escape the album’s first single “Feel It Still,” which dominated the charts and radio airwaves in 2017. The 6X Platinum Certified hit reigned at #1 at nearly all radio formats, including Top 40, as well as Alternative, where the song held the chart’s top spot for a mind-blowing 20 weeks, breaking the record for most weeks at #1. Yes, you read that right. 5 guys from Wasilla, Alaska who have played nearly 1,500 shows in their career broke Alternative radio records and had a #1 song at Pop radio. Billboard Magazine even went as far as to call the song, “the unexpected rock crossover hit of 2017,” while Rolling Stone listed it as “one of the best songs of 2017.” AND THEN…the band kicked off 2018 by winning a GRAMMY Award for “Feel It Still.” WOODSTOCK has since been certified gold, as has their second single “Live In The Moment”.

I was in a car accident after one of your concerts in 2010 and this was the song that helped me recover. "We may make it through the war, if we make it through the night," meant so much to me. Even now I need this song to get over the death of my best friend. So thank you for touching my life for 14 years now ♡

Edwin Flo Listen to Modern Jesus. While not explicitly anti-religious, it does heavily argue that religion has served its purpose and that people need to look to other things for the benefits (specifically, themselves). Holly Roller and some other songs add to that.

Being from Wasilla, and graduating from the same High school that Zach and John went to, I'm super proud of their Bands success and their talent as Artists. I like our town being known for their bands origins, rather than the place Sarah Palin is from. I'm a swim coach for Wasilla High, and I tell my kids a lot, just because they're from this little town, doesn't mean they cant get out and make something of themselves, and be an impact on the world. Needless to say, we jam to Portugal during practice.

I'm an old hippie and have seen so many great bands since the 70's. But I've never had a more spiritual experience than one transcendent night in Birmingham Alabama right before covid was on us. The pure joy and love that went through that crowd I'll never forget. I love you Joseph Benson, JP Brown, Jesse Benson Alayna Kaitlyn for taking this old man to this show. This song is so cathartic. Please play this at my funeral along with funeral for a friend by Elton John. These guys are right up there with the classics. Let love rule !

I understand if this doesn't appeal to everyone. Doesn't make you less of a person for not digging it, and I'm not better than you because I do. To each his (or her) own.

I'm sorry, but even if it is sarcasm its still a retarded comment, like for example, i know plenty of call centers, in, fact wall street still operates as so in many places, not to mention a plenty of call centers are dotted throughout my town and i live in a more rural area, so it isn't akin to our generation. call centers have been huge for 30 -

Fucking love this song and the message behind it, war is just the stupidest most disgusting thing.
@DarkLaud
@DarkLaud 9 жыл бұрын
phoebe louise It's pretty good for the economy, and it's the thing that really pushed America to pursue and invest in technological advances like the computer. If not for war, you could say the computer might not be as powerful as it is today, and P.TM might not have been able to record this song because it's much cheaper now than it was say, a decade ago, to produce music independently. Also, KZfaq probably wouldn't have been made until the internet became capable of dealing with the bandwidth, so it wouldn't have even been around for the person to create it, to have actually created it, or ahem, Myspace. These aren't justifications at all, war is an awful thing that no one should be willing to do, yet it is deeply ingrained in our DNA to wage war and battle for things. Truth is, physical wars may end, but there will never be an end to the wars we wage on each other every day. tl;dr - This is a pointless comment.

@DarkLaud
@DarkLaud 9 жыл бұрын
phoebe louise idk if that's sarcastic or not, but if it is, I never meant to downplay your opinion or anything. I'm just offering what I believe is a reasonable argument against people thinking war is stupid. Of course war is stupid, but no one ever wants to talk about the technological advances and the good it did for us; This is why I decided to play devils advocate and type that comment. If you aren't being sarcastic, then don't feel sorry, we're all entitled to our opinions. There's no such thing as a right or wrong answer here; and no reasonable person would ever hold any opinion you make against you. That being said, my favorite brand of coconut water, (which I won't name here because they haven't sponsored me yet, bastards..) wouldn't exist without some military intervention in a certain country, so on a much lighter, much darker note, I'm glad war was around.

+Dan Dez it's so hard to get emotion across in comments, I was being sarcastic and defensive because In the moment your comment felt like an attack. However like I said its hard to get emotion across and I do one hundred percent understand that we can all have opinions and that you were just offering yours, I'm sorry now that we've had a misunderstanding I guess, also with the commenter above directly bashing my opinion I think I just felt targeted.

Well concidering how much I love their music I figure i'll be listening to them til the day I die. and hopefully if I ever have kids they will too. So even if I can give that little bit of musical legacy to my children, then they'll be remembered. And if my friends, who love them as much as me, do the same. Then they will be remembered.

BROSPAYNE WHAT? You didn't get it right... I'm telling that influences doesn't tell how a band sounds. tikondiroka said that in a sort of way. I mean, Beatles is One Direction's biggest influence, but they have NOTHING to do with Beatles musically (except the fact that both seem similar to a boyband style of publishing ). Yeah, portugal. the man are influenced by oasis and this song reminds a bit, but I think they are really different.

I think the premise of this video is basically the blind leading the blind. It's about how the values, truths and ethics of society are in conflict with those of its citizens. Yet for some reason, those citizens are blind to this conflict of interests or willingly accept it. The video is ultimately about a struggle to break free from these institutions.
