Hi there sir. I'm interviewing for a CMT technician position soon. I've read some of the comments and discovering that you need to be certified? I have some construction background with asphalt and concrete work, as a laborer. I applied for this position because it looks like something I'd really enjoy doing so I submitted my resume but don't have experience. I got a response to interview. Since I haven't done this specific work before, am I wasting my time? Thanks very much for this information. Very very pleasant.

Hey mike, how do I get started as a CMT? How do I get my foot in the door? Looking for a career.

@John I was a decade into landscaping, so I joined a lab in the area. Find one that does testing and things of the sort, and you can get certified and start working your way up the certification ladder rather than go to school to be a civil engineer and be in debt. The company I work with will pay for your cert test. Just gotta be willing. The more certs you have, the more versatile you are for the company. Since I got hired, I've done Cement Testing, Densities with a Nuke, GPR Scanning, and of course lab work.. Right now, I'm in a village called New Stuyahok doing Densities for a water treatment plant. Then I go back to the military base in Anchorage and do the same thing.. then I get called out to go somewhere... cycle continues. You can do it!!!!

Jason that’s true! Asphalt compaction can be all over the place and here in the city, we require a minimum of 95%

venito camelo I started making just under $25/ hr and in 8 years, I’m at $38/hr and $57 overtime

I started out at $24.50 an hour and after 10 years ended up with $40 an hour! Thank you for asking!
