I think the reason why Malachite used Lapis’ and Jasper’s weapons separately is because they were a unstable fusion. Most fusions create a whole new gem, with its own personality and everything, but Malachite wasn’t like that. Lapis and Jasper consciousnesses both existed and fought for control. So basically when most gems fuse, both their minds and bodies become a single entity, but Malachite’s case only their form fused, so Malachite could only use their weapons separately.

I have a theory about fusions that don’t have their own weapons. It’s been established that both Malachite and Alexandrite are pretty unstable fusions. Although for different reasons. For Malachite it was the nature of relationship between Jasper and Lapis. This is shown is Malachite’s split voice and how Laois and Jasper would each fight to gain control. Garnet even said that they are bad for each other. For Alexandrite though she is unstable because Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl had a hard time collaborating with each other. This is shown mainly in the earlier seasons especially during Fusion Cuisine and how in earlier seasons they were having a hard time working as a team. But as they became more an more connected and they worked better as a team they had no problem forming and maintaining Alexandrite. So to the theory. My theory is that the more unstable the fusion the more likely they won’t have their own individual weapons. Fusions are supposed to be the personification of a relationship between two or more gems. I mean just look at Garnet. But when fusions are unstable like Malachite and Alexandrite they are not their own new gem. They are the personification of the weaknesses in the relationship between the gems. Malachite is an example of this. So what I think is that since in Malachite two gems were fighting for control the weapons they could summon depended on which gem was actively in control. The same goes for Alexandrite. So I think that because Alexandrite is more stable now there could be a possibility that she could form her own weapon now that she is her own gem that is stable and healthy. Unlike Malachite who is an unhealthy relationship where her two parts are constantly fighting for control.

Update! Here are the weapons that were shown after this video was made, and unfortunately after this show has ended. We do see that due to Steven's inclusion, the weapons are more playful and are ones not considered weapons at first glance. Pearl and Steven, making Rainbow Quartz 2.0, indeed has a parasol, using it in fun ways as Mary Poppins does. Garnet and Steven, making Sunstone, has a pair of suction cup gauntlets. The only exception to this rule is Pearl, Amethyst, Garnet and Steven making Obsidian, making a humungous flaming greatsword. Still elemental based though. I personally feel that Peri's ability is just to control metal. While not having any weapons of her own, she tends to ride on a trash can lid for fast and far travel. Kind of sad, though, that there weren't more fusions explored.

Rainbow Quarts 2.0's weapon *is* an umbrella Sunstone (Steven+Garnet)'s weapon is a mini-hand-toilet-plunger 😂😅 Obsidian (The temple fusion aka Steven+Garnet+Pearl+Amethyst)'s weapon is a Sword. When Obsidian summons her weapon, it's just a sword handle but next the big upper mouth will have lava and forms the sword blade.

That umbrella thing is really added into the fusion of steven and pearl!

It seems like the gem fusions can use the basic weapons of their components, so maybe the weapon Alexandrite would use is just less practical then using different components weapons.

i think garnet and steven's fusion weapon would in fact just be plain old boxing gloves in real boxing you would cover your face with the gloves and it would block the attack by hitting the back hand of the glocve where in this case i see steven's shield being summoned when the fusion is blocking but when not it remains as blue and red colored boxing gloves some what looking like a nintendo switch for some reason to represent garnet but mainly Sapphire and Ruby the back hand of the gloves are pink to resemble steven or rose. @CartoonUniverse this seems like my personal most likely fusion weapon
