in this video i talk about the ezy climb folding steps from crandord or also called the crandord rope steps and why they are the best public land legal climbing method for saddle hunters. I discuss why i prefer them to stick's i compare them to my hawk helium mini sticks and also why there a great budget option. #cranford #saddlehunting #deerhunting #publiclandhunting #cimbingmethods

Don’t sale your sticks. I had those rope steps 20 years ago……they will dump your butt out of a tree. When you step on it like that going up the tree…..the step will then slide around the tree because it’s loose. It twists around the tree because you’re applying pressure differently coming down. Trust me on this, wear a lineman’s belt and climb with them a dozen times in your yard. I gave mine away. I also tried the ones that used a belt instead of a rope. You can not ever get them tight enough. Fellow Sc boy here. Enjoyed your video.👍🏻

This! Except sticks will dump you too. Make a 2TC and never look back.

I wholeheartedly agree. I bought an aluminum version from another vendor here on YT. I tried my best with them but I felt like I was going to die using them. Kicked out, twisted, and your right I could never get the belt tight enough. I TIG welded sharp aluminum points onto the inside bottom of the step hoping it would help, it didn’t. Sold them. Now I just use sticks or screw in cranfords. The folding screw in one’s weight 5.7 ounces each.

Thanks for making & posting your video. Seriously, it takes effort & resolve because of the feeback 👍 Im always looking for better methods to improve my hunting. Saddle hunting appeals to me because of the safety and stealth.

Look into the sladder. I switched to that this year and it has been great option for me

Just started using Sladder this year along w rappel to descend. 1.5 lbs, super compact to carry. It's awesome.

I've been waiting to see more about the sladder before I purchase one. It looks a lot better than carrying my sticks.

Been using the Sladder myself for about 3 weeks now and I love it! There is a learning curve especially in the dark but it’s def a win. I usually 1 stick but saw the Sladder and decided to change things up. Glad I did!

@@revjmckee5150 that's what I was torn between. Going one stick or the sladder. I'll have to try the sladder first then. Thanks man

After ascending with a Sladder don’t you still need to hang a platform? Try a quality one stick like the Mobile Sniper from Tree Top Hunting. It becomes a backpack when you make your rope long enough. I really like it. I carry my top layers of clothing and carry only a Fanny pack.

I used them all season. They can displace sometimes. They take longer to setup than sticks. I would not go high in a tree with them. I hunt low so it works out alright. I only need a few steps.

Instead of carrying in a stand or small platform I go out on public land 1 month or so after the season closes. I don't like to pressure the deer in January. Come February u get a little longer days & u can feel that sun better. I bring out a few Wild Edge Stepps & I put them up in 🌳 in spots that post season scouting has shown me r major pinch points. That way many months later i can go in stealth & not ruin my areas. Some spots will be good for early season & others r more for rut funnels. But if u can't get into them clean u might as well stay away. My method of getting into 🌳 is with a throwball & throwline. I can setup 10 spots in three different areas that r miles apart. I do this in a 5 to 6 weekend span. I carry a small platform on my pack with me come hunting season. On small 🌳 that usually fork i have a Stepp up there in February or March & i place my platform on the other fork. Keeping paracord up in the 🌳 allows me to get into a setup & not leave any presence of me going up . Keeping my climbing line up in the 🌳 I can get down the 🌳 in seconds. This is important on evening hunts when u just want to leave your paracord in the 🌳 & live to see another day. I wrap the bottom of my paracord around a stick & leave that about 7' off the ground in a smaller tree close to my 🌳 I'm hunting in. This is efficient & allows u to hunt a spot when the wind is a crosswind. A crosswind is all I need to gain the advantage on any given day. 😮

Looking at the downward angle they take when you put weight on them tells me all I need to know. I’ll carry the extra couple pounds for a set of stable sticks. 👍

I use the cranfords with a light hang on. Its my favorite way to mobile hunt. Dnt get too high. Ive tried saddle hunting but i make to much movement tryn to get comfortable. But im glad saddle hunting is good for some people.

Instead of holding the step when tightening. Grab the slack from the LEFT side of the step and pull all the slack out. Then pull the tail to get them solid and they won't pull away like that.

My friend you must learn how to one stick. When you finish putting on your 8 steps while maneuvering up them with a lineman’s you still have to set a platform or a ring of steps. I climb with the same thing I stand on when I hunt. I don’t need a lineman’s. It is an all in one deal. Check out a new one stick on the market called the Mobile Snipper from Treetop Hunting. I’ve been one sticking with a Hawk stick the and a platform. The one stick all in one is way better.
