I always avoided playing this song when my wife was around as her dad passed a few years ago and I didn't want to upset her. My own dad passed recently and I'm playing it alone now with tears streaming down my face.

My dad was always around, never abusive. But we never really had a relationship. Never did anything together, never felt close to him. 30 years old now and although i love my father to death, i feel like we're strangers. This song hits me right in the feelers...

Not sure why these guys aren't bigger, as James Allen's vocals are remarkable. I first heard this on Pandora and really loved his accent, and knew it had to be a Scottish band. Loved the sing along effort by the Scottish crowd... only they could make it sound that damn good. Missing Scotland at the moment.

Dad was never there. Heavy drinker, Walked out when I was 3 leaving 6 kids. I remember this song coming on and thinking wow... that will sum him up, a 50 year old on his own and sad. He died aged 49 of cancer. So it goes...

this is a tragic song it is very often people do things that they cant take back then their children suffer. i am a 49 year old man with children and we are very close i have been in their lives everyday and i will fight to the death to keep it that way. many years ago when i was 4 my fathers actions took my mother away, years later after i became an adult i met him we spoke about nothing important but you could feel the tension. he never knew the things i had suffered we never spoke about what had happened until one night when out of the mouth of a very small child ( my neice )came the the question "uncle where is your mom" in front of my father. then i saw what kind of person he really was. he fell to his knees balling and crying like i have never seen anyone anywhere ever asking me to forgive him. that is when we were able to talk about the happenings of the night that traumatically altered my life . though the things that transpired through my youth i will not tell you becaused i survived and came out on top of a really crappy life. i will tell you this (a secret be able to forgive also be worthy to be forgiven) everyone does something to someone even if you dont know or understand it has been done we are humans and our blinders cover a great many things. anyway I forgave him for what he had done to my life and we became friends but he has passed away and this song reminds me of him thanks for posting this was wonderful i first heard this on a show called chuck and really liked it

First listened to their first album flying to New York on my first plane journey, quite an epic day!!!!!

My Da was brill, gave Mum all his money and never raised his voice or his fists. I love him but he is long gone and as an only child he was shit at emotions or what Mum called joinyupstuff. He took me on fishing trips, hill walking and tons of other stuff my mates wished for. But that said I never really knew him and now I am 62 I understand more because of my own life experience, but wish we had found a way to communicate better. I have no children but as far as it is possible I am honest and direct with the nieces and nephews, and I used to be a great Uncle but now I am a Great Uncle so there is hope. The longer I live the more fortunate I feel for my Da and Mum. This is just the the most gemmegalousmajestic version of this song. Ever,

Dad left when I was a baby and randomly reappeared in my life when i was 16-17. I'm 27 now and he never calls me or talks to me , for months or years at a time . I guess you just can't change some people . Suppose I just have to come to terms with him being disinterested.

Magnificent. If they could just recapture this sound again. A lot of the recent stuff is just too dark and not that highly euphoric wall of guitar sound that made them great. They should have been massive.
