I speak several languages. Sometimes when you're thinking one thing in your native tongue, you quickly translate that thought into the language you are speaking, and the result is not always an equivalent. Something matter-of-fact and acceptable in Greek, for example, might sound awkwardly arrogant in English. It's quite a challenge, and it all happens inside the brain in a split second.

This is just tsitsipas being greek. Speaking from experience, they tend to speak their mind over there and you just have to develop a thick skin. You can be honest but there is also a little something called tact. English is not his first language so I very much doubt any offense was intentional. Just if he ever gets to the top, showing tact/empathy is a revered trait by the public. Hence why Federer is so beloved.

@@diegosotomiranda4107 doesn’t matter, we live in an age of social media where everything is forever. Young athletes in other sports are now often taught how to act by their handlers for this very reason. How to conduct yourself in press conferences, how to use social media without damaging your image, how to act in order to obtain as many endorsements as possible. Someone like Kyrgios does not care and will never care about that stuff but that’s why his fans love him. If you look at his reaction to the question, instead of agreeing that it's surprising to win easily against a great player, he laughs & smirks then says, "I don't know". As if you shouldn't be surprised by the score. The crowd were laughing because it seemed like he was laughing at his opponent. Then instead of showing respect to Simon's legacy in the sport, he comes across like, "I don't know why he's so bad I guess I just played well". He also went on to say, "I don't know what his tactic was" as if his opponent doesn't know how to play. It is arrogant for anyone to do that in tennis unless you are obviously making a joke. The crowd reaction is understandable. But I think it's still a misunderstanding because he does seems surprised and what he probably meant was, "I wasn't paying attention to his game, I was focusing on my own" but the crowd cut him off. He also never played Simon before so doesn't know what to expect. The reason why maybe the Australian crowd was laughing is because they are used to ppl being funny and joking about opponents so they assumed he was dissing him deliberately. But it's still a very funny interview and I'm sure he doesn't mean to disrespect Gilles Simon.

Courier is one of the worst post match interviewers. Help Tsitsipas with your choice of questions or intervention instead of telling him he "Keeps digging"

dont think so, the only reason he kept digging is because tsitsipas didnt once acknowledge the opponent, he's a big hothead.

Lol no he's widely considered the very best in the sport. there's a reason he keeps getting the gig in Australia even after the coverage switched from 7 to 9. But I think he should've helped Stef here.

Dude was hilarious! If you think that he lacks social skills, then you most certainly lack the social skills that are necessary in gauging whether others lack or possess social skills 👍😜
