Increasing the tensile strength with the help of tendon wires.
Explanation:-
Every concrete member will have a compression zone, tension zone and also neutral axis.
For example:
Consider a simply supported beam, one point load acting on the beam. Now, the bending moment happened. The top zone gets compressed, the bottom zone gets elongated which means it gets tensed. In the middle portion no reaction will happen so we called the neutral axis.
Now, I don't want to increase the size of the beam but I need to withstand more weight with a low bending moment.
How the bending moment will happen. Lower tensile strength leads to higher bending moments. So, we need to increase the tensile strength by using tendon wires. Which method is called the post tensioning method. The tensioning process postponed as the last process, that's why it's a post tensioning method.
What is the use of tensioning means, it gives higher tensile strength, by increasing tensile strength leads to less number of support so called columns and beams.
Requirements of steel are also lesser because of tendon wires.
