I recently had to do this myself & I can tell anyone I understand this man’s pain, I felt like a part of my identity was stripped away but thankfully my beard also grows back stupendously fast!

My kids knew me with a (close) beard for years. When I shave it off the first thing my 8 year old said after hiding under his sheets was, "I want my Daddy back!" It really impacted him. A word to the wise, if you have young children let them watch the process. Don't shock them.

I remember once when my dad came home after a long business trip with a beard and mustache. My sisters and I didn't recognize him at all, we were whispering to each other that Mom got us a new dad. He asked us to go over to give him a kiss and a hug but we hesitated until my Mom told us that is okay, he is actually our dad. We then did what he asked for and recognized his voice. He was upset when we hesitate therefore the next day he shaved it and never grew a beard or mustache in his life. I still remember this like yesterday.... Is actually more than 45 years ago. You start to realize how warm body hair actually keeps us, when you shave off a long beard. I just shaved yesterday after being in the hospital for a long time, went outside and the air just hit different.

You look so much better without the beard. Anyway, I remember when I was five years old, (in 1955) my Dad went hunting and was gone for two weeks and didn't shave. When he walked in the door, I was so excited to see him, but I didn't recognize him and jumped back afraid. It wasn't until after he spoke to me that I recognized him. He never grew a beard again until he died in 1997.

I’ve gotten the same reaction from friends that have known me for over a decade that have seen me shave after a few years. It’s such a sudden shift that’s not quite the same as the gradual progression of growing a beard. I think I’ll always prefer having a beard but it’s not so bad having a few months without the hassle.

I love the new look! I have never liked beards. It’s just my own opinion, but to me they look gray, scraggly, unkempt, dirty, almost unsanitary. I think they make any man look at least 20 years older. Why would anyone want to look older?? I don’t mind the occasional 2 day shadow, but not the actual beard. You are a handsome man with a beautiful smile. Please enjoy what you have been given and don’t hide your fortunate good looks under a pile of scraggly hair! But, I must add, it is your life and if the beard makes you feel happier or more self confident or whatever, then by all means grow it back. Life is too short not to enjoy what makes us happy! (But don’t grow it back, haha!)

I started growing out my beard this year and it hurts so bad to see you do this. You had one hell of a healthy looking beard. No women will ever get me to shave it. I keep mine well groomed anyway so no one has ever complained

I never grew a beard in my life. I think there's no good reason to not have a beard or to have a beard, it's a matter of aesthetics, what one likes. So don't listen to people who say that you look better with or without a beard. It comes down to a personal preference.

A lot of people already said it but you don’t look bad without a beard, man. Some people, including myself, legitimately look bad without facial hair. You can rock both.

I know how you feel, man. Many years ago I decided to see what my two kids would think if I shaved off my mustache... not a full beard, just a mustache, but they had never seen me without it. They were 6 and 2 at the time. The oldest one thought it was hilarious, just cracked up laughing almost literally rolling on the floor. The youngest?... not so much. He starting crying and ran out of the room full speed. Found him in the bedroom trying to hide under the bed, and took an hour to calm him down. Eventually even he could see the humor in it, like his big brother... but there for awhile... nope. 😄

You look a lot better than most men do when they shave. Usually, I think that they should grow it back as quickly as possible, but you can slog with a clean shaven look. Hope your kids liked it.

It's such a crazy difference. And I think it's safe to say that everything feels so much wireder without a beard. Something for me I can never get over no matter how many times I shave. Is how wired showering feels having water flow down your face.

Oh my! My husband shaved his beard when our daughter was two. She was so upset!!! She shook her little finger at me and said "you made him do it"! He hasn't shave off his beard totally since then. Our daughter is 48! 😁😂 (He does keep it trimmed)
