This is a sign that Daria should never depict school life in her own way 😭 | Daria on Comedy Central, DStv Ch122

So instead of finding it offensive, as the teacher immediately jumps to, Daria explains the nuance and subtext underneath the shock value, and with that we wish the 90s intellectualism was alive today.

Yeah dude, because smart people just stopped existing on December 31st 1999

Someone is clearly trapped in the past.

Daria made the statement, of course she knows what it actually means. The conclusion it is laughing at eating disorders is not far fetched, it is an understandable mistake one might make.

@@Pingwn And the teacher actually listened. Her last question is less interrogative, and more of confirming whose idea was it and to make sure they can stand in their ground.

90's intellectualism? I do admit that it is horrible now, but that is due to the over-representation of less than valid opinions due to the democratization of platforms (reads as "even the tinfoil hat tweeker has a social media account now") compounded by echo chambers to either laugh at, popularize or pander to a micro-demographic. Here is some "90's intellectualism" for you seeing that you are so nostalgic. Nostalgia's glasses are always rose-tinted.

I think her art teacher looks like Ms. Valerie Frizzle from The Magic School Bus.

I know the original intention of the picture Jane wanted to do was to be deliberately negative as a way of getting back at the teachers for effectively putting her up to entering the contest, but in all honesty, the kind of picture she presents is exactly what life as a student is like, and moreso is one that the school board needs to hear, because self acceptance and keeping up appearances are a huge part of student life, and in all the emphasis on academia and fitting in, we see flattering accomplishments, not gruelling sacrifice, and the glorification by educators of overachieving at any cost, rather than learning to balance life's commitments, comes with serious health problems. It's all contests and competitions until someone loses something far more significant than a trophy.

0:06-0:08 that still makes me laugh to this day 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 . I don’t think the art teacher understands the message though . Jane is talking about people’s perception of their self image and how that’s dangerous

I always appreciated the art teacher in this episode. Once it was clear the intention wasn't to poke fun or make light of a serious topic, she backed off immediately and saw the piece for the work of art it was
