Coach Cronin met with the media after UCLA's 59-53 loss to Stanford in a Pac-12 contest on Wednesday evening in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.

Softball questions. How about "Coach, did you really think the guys you brought in were going to be good enough offensively to win this yr?"

Cronin said "we struggle to do simple things" but the simple thing he should have done is recruit better players. This recruiting class is terrible there's no other way to put it. Forget UCLA basketball in 2024.

Most top-tier kids have stirred clear from UCLA for decades. Westbrook was not a 5 star. Howland always says that he was astounded by what Westbrook became. Jaime was a 3 star and thrived under Cronin. Same with Tyger. Ball was an exception. Just a local kid who grew up loving UCLA. Even when very good, fans don't show up to games. You get a better college feel at Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina. 95% of the time, the best recruits will choose those four schools over UCLA. Exception like Amari Bailey, but he chose to get paid to learn the game in the NBA (nowhere near a pro ballplayer) as opposed to staying at UCLA. Can't blame a guy for taking 100s of thousands of dollars when he is not close to being a pro player. I thought the guy from Utah was a shooter. At least this season, he's not. This would probably be a decent team if they had some outside shooting.

Will shooting 3s better so far is a plus. BWill and Berke getting more minutes is a plus. At this point, Aday should get more minutes to develop confidence. Ilane, Jan, DWill should get more minutes to get experience and for depth next year. Mack looks promising but he needs a pair of gloves from wide receivers lol

This team isn't clicking yet. But they are losing by around 6 points per game. All of their losses were winnable games.

Yup, agreed. I just hope the other guys get more minutes so they feel appreciated and don’t transfer

All of you naysaying Cronin are hilarious. He’s being honest and telling the truth. I love him saying “we are reinventing new ways to turn the ball over.” It’s true- you can’t play the game for them.

Let’s see the negative comments today.. I just want y’all to pick a side and stay there. Don’t hop back on the bag wagon next year when we start turning the corner. The problem is y’all don’t understand this is going to take more than this season to get to where we need to be

Problem you have is rosters don't stay together every yr anymore. Mick needs to bring in better. This past off season was a recruiting fail

@@NWChickasaw enlighten me who will be transferring out and why would they? Mick has no record of loosing top guys to the portal. He loses guy like Mac Ettiene who don’t play anyways to the portal. So please enlighten me on why there would be a mass exodus now all of a sudden?

@@noeeortiz9073 portal activity and volatility was different even 2 yrs ago. That group last yr had unfinished business and may be the last of stay 3-4 yrs together and that's with any team now. Adapt or die.

I don’t understand why Cronin does not play Fibleuil and Vide more. We stay with guys who cannot shoot the ball at all. Put these guys in! What the hell are you losing at this point.

I totally agree and I think that will slowly happen or I should say I hope that will slowly happen because as we saw tonight Vide got a lot more minutes and Fibleau (sp?) Just have to do a better job right when he gets in there defensively he continues to have a breakdown and get yanked, but I think that's coming because Andrew's is just not a guy to run the point into the future

they're trying to do too much and turning the ball over. when they play their proper role, they get to stay on the court, vide is learning better

None of these guys are reliable outside shooters. Offense is the problem. They will struggle to score 60 no matter who is out there.

He needs an offensive coach to help him. I fear he has no ability to develop players on offensive end and has no strategy or plays on offense. Do they only work on defense at practice?

He just told everyone that he thinks his players are too stupid to take direction/teaching. Well Cronin is the one who recruited them. Everything rises and falls on LEADERSHIP.

Wow. Go listen to Tommy Lloyd when Arizona lost to Stanford last week and he was obviously upset, but he never insulted the Arizona players. Compare that with Mick Cronin, who calls one of his players "supposedly our oldest, smartest guy." Cronin is a cocky joke of a coach, I can't imagine playing for that clown.

If my boss were to call out my performance in public I'd change jobs. Look for the portal to light up with UCLA players this year. And, what player would want to come to UCLA to be abused in the press? As John Wooden said, "Adversity doesn't build character, it reveals it." Cronin's character has been revealed and it's not in line with what I expect at UCLA.

This team was put together lousily. Mick was either really delusional or very egocentric to think he could coach this group to be competitive this yr. Worst team in the PAC 12 so far and probably the rest of the way. No better than 3rd to last finish and to those chirping "give them time", sorry but none of these freshmen are that great and none are good shooters and never will be and several will be gone next yr
