Yeah it’s super funny when people joke about something that lands you in hell. “But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬-‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Let NO ONE deceive you with empty words!

Ok but... Premillennialism isn't dispensational. Historic Premillennialism was the eschatology of the church before Constantine. I repeat. Premillennialism IS NOT Dispensational. Dispensationalism just made its own version of it. And it's really sad to see the overreaction to it lead to a rejection of premillennialism.

Joy to the world, the Lord is come. Let earth receive her King. Let every heart prepare Him room. Let Heaven and nature sing. Joy to the world, the Savior reigns. Let men their songs employ. Let fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains repeat the sounding joy. No more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground. I'll never understand in a million years how anyone can read the NT and Revelation and bevievel in Post mill. That has to be the hardest sell in the universe, its the complete and total opposite of everything written in the NT and Revelation. Its clear to me people embrace it because they just have a really difficult time believeing the prophets. Its not about not understanding them because the words are pretty clear, its about struggling to accept what they say. SO they latch on to the idea that none of them actually mean what they say. And of course if they don't mean what they say then they can mean anything to anyone.

@@skinnie2838 It amazes me, that while most dispensational preachers understand that the events foretold to occur in MT 23 and 24 center around, and come to completion, at the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem in 70ad; then have the misguided fortitude to suddenly jump 2000 years into the future when Jesus includes his coming and the gathering right there within the very same texts! And it expressed as being IMMEDIATELY after the events in the previous verses! Because of the rise of Dispensationalism in the Church in the early 1900s, with its futuristic perspective of the New Testament prophecies; are we supposed to accept their premise that the first century believers, all the New Testament writers, the Holy Spirit, Jesus the Christ Himself, AND even God the Father, ALL got it completely and totally wrong, as to the timing and nature of the events foretold in holy writ? Especially when they ALL held to the perspective that their fulfillment was to be in that first century? Well, I am not persuaded by spiritual blindness! All of the New Testament writers, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote their texts to their first century readers, prophesying that the resurrection and the coming of the Lord were to occur in that generation then living and breathing at that time. There was no confusion or misunderstanding on the matter! Now, here is what we MUST conclude: Either the resurrection and the coming of the Lord did happen when and how they said it would; or God just flat out lied to them! And if God did lie; what else might he have lied about? And can you really trust the bible which you don't believe is actually true and accurate, since you don't believe those prophecies have happened? Do you see how your believing that the bible, with its prophecies, are both true and accurate is the paramount of your faith? You must choose one way or the other! God requires that you believe what he has preserved. Choose..........

@@skinnie2838 But that's the problem. You only think you are trusting in Jesus. You really don't believe what he both said and taught to his disciples! He said and taught that his coming would occur before they all died out. MT 16:28. And before THAT generation passed away. MT 24:34. Your misunderstanding other scriptures, and then applying them to what Jesus said, inferring that they are incorrect. You must put the words Jesus said FIRST! And then understand those other scriptures based on what Jesus said. Then you can truly trust in Jesus. Right now, you actually only believe some things he taught, but not the whole. If Jeff smoking a cigar is causing you to stumble, then don’t watch the video. In fact you should probably get off the internet period… a cigar is the least of your worries, there’s much worse temptations on here. Don’t be legalistic, creating laws where God hasn’t spoken. If smoking a cigar is a sin (which it’s not imo) then so is drinking coffee or soda or junk food in general, as all can lead to bad health if done habitually. I understand the weaker brother argument but the whole point was to push the weaker brother into maturity. Paul even rebukes those Jews who were trying to force dietary laws on the gentiles, aka being legalistic. I’m not saying you should light up a cigar in person right next to a brother who was abusing tobacco, but at the same time a weaker brother must mature at some point and can’t expect everyone in the faith to put unnecessary yokes upon themselves and burdens because of their lack of self control. The bottom line is temptation is all around us, that’s why we must level up and put self control into practice by the strength of the Spirit of God. Be disciplined, we’re disciples.

i used to be addicted to nicotine heavily for years (as well as hard drugs) before the LORD saved me and watching professed brethren smoking while talking about the LORD has definitely been a stumblingblock for me. Please just consider the weaker brethren like myself. one video i watched i couldnt even hear what was being said because i was fixated on the cigar. im not saying smoking a cigar is a sin - however when it causes others to stumble it may be wiser to reconsider doing it in a context like this. Although one may have liberty to smoke cigars it may cause a weak brother who just came out of this addiction to be tempted to go back to smoking (not for recreation but in a sinful and harmful way). i personally know that i dont want to cause a brother to stumble in this way and just ask whoever reads this to consider my perspective. in no way am i trying to take away Christian liberty, but i think there can be a time and a place for certain liberties to be exercised out of the public eye out of love for others. love you all.

This is a common feature of the theonomic postmillennialism bearded Calvinist crowd. It is meant to appeal to the rebel counter culture young male, and seem like a cooler more masculine form of Christianity. For too long, the weak, feminine American evangelical form of the church, with its “felt needs” and psychological therapeutic religion, created an environment where men coming out of adolescence didn’t feel like they belonged in the church. This new form (going back to the “Young Restless Reformed” movement with Driscoll and others like him) is the “equal and opposite reaction” to that unbiblical imbalance. But Christ never flaunted his liberty in the face of the weak and spiritually needy. He only went out of His way to offend people when they were self-righteousness and placing themselves in spiritual authority over others (scribes, Pharisees…). Biblical manhood has the masculinity of Christ as its standard. 🙏

I heard some where that we have Christian liberty to make choices , if you want to smoke than that your choice even if it’s not in the Bible . But we can’t bring it somewhere where it can make people stumble it’s between you and God and then they said that shouldn’t keep you from fellowship with them . I read a lot of comments here that many saying it’s distracting them from listening to the message so it is making many stumble to keep them from listening to the word . I love this man is very gifted with wisdom but many new people who don’t know him , the cigar smoking while speaking about God keeps them from wanting to listen what he has to say . Like I said I had an issue with it and it kept me from listening until I heard that pastor say that so it got me thinking the cigar shouldn’t keep me from listening but the cigar made me stumble a little because It confused me . But I still will listening to him because he has a lot of wisdom to teach his word it’s between him and God ! We have to seek and pray about this . This became more about the cigar than what he had to say and teach so maybe he shouldn’t do it when he is teaching . I don’t know ! Love ya Jeff God bless !

Wow Jeff , why would you do this man? It brought tears of sadness to my heart. Paul said: “Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭8:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬ So Paul was ready to never even eat meat then for anybody to stumble over him doing anything. You know that you can offend a lot of people by doing this. And after all what is the point really? I don’t think you’re doing it out of Love, which is supposed to be our motivation in every work we do.

All things are permissible but not all things are profitable. Also, we ought not be a stumbling block to a weaker brother and not use our own freedom and liberty to become a rock of offence to a weaker brother. So, while I personally don't care if you smoke or drink, I just know that it could offend and bother a brother or sister. So I would not do it in front of them, and in this case, I would not do it for a video teaching. I don't think Jeff Durbin would do this if he was standing in a pulpit teaching in an actual church sanctuary. Nor do I think Spurgeon doing that either. It is all a point of context. First of all let me say that I think Jeff Durbin is one of the best preachers I have seen and heard. His apologetics is excellent and he is an engaging speaker. It was a Jeff Durbin preach that encouraged me to research more of his preaches, his debates and to seek out other speakers who fit the Reformed/Calvinist mould. I am not a Calvinist, by the way, but I still get a lot out of these preaches because i believe that God is sovereign and no one does this better than Calvinist/Reformed preachers. I just don't go along with the TULIP acronym - although most of it is just the same arguments presented by non Calvinists but from a different perspective, rather than an opposing position. That is what I have concluded, anyway. Secondly, I do not think it is Godly to criticise commentators on here who've disapproved of his cigar smoking here during this video. They are right to do this. It draws attention to himself, just like his long beard does when he preaches. I believe that anything that draws attention away from God and onto the speaker that is not right. So i think it better that Jeff tackles these points. He also looks quite scruffy during preaches too : in faded ripped jeans and tatoos showing all over the place. Again, an attention grab that detracts from the message. Jeff isn't breaking any laws - sure - but some on here feel passionately that, when preaching, The Lord and only The Lord should be heard and seen (metaphorically speaking) from the pulpit so anything that distracts from that is not good. It is no better for a preacher to draw attention away from God than it is for a female to show up at church in sensual clothing or over-braided hair with costly jewels and luxury accessories. I fail to see the difference. Both attention seek for the wrong reasons. Tbh I think this is Jeff's weakness that he needs to address: he comes across as a little too fond of himself - a bit too egotistical and likes to draw attention to himself. This is sinful and he needs to repent of this weakness. Another criticism I have of him: he said once that he dislikes swearing intensely and it was one of the things God tackles when he was born again, and if his kids ever swore they would be punished severely. Then, in another video, I heard him evangelise where he actually did use a swear word to them which some readers commentated on. That is double standards: to lay down rules for another whilst not keeping to them yourself. But he probably stumbled into sin on that occasion - it probably slipped out....a part of his old self clinging to him like a dead carcass (Rom 7). It happens but we forgive and forget and move on. That is how Christians should behave toward fellow brethren: we encourage, rebuke, love and forgive. That is how we should be - always. So no-one expects pastors to be anthing other than human in their walk to sanctification, and we all fail at times by stumbling into sin, but we need to be discerning and point out those weaknesses with kindness and love. I don't think that smoking ths cigar with multiple pauses light and relighting it, whilst addressing Christians in this video, is a good look. Smoking is a drug, it is unhealthy and it detracts from the message. So people spoke out about it. I believe that it is not right for those who disagree, for whatever strange reason, to show their displeasure by attacking the critic who points out these weaknesses with rude, sharp self-righteous rebukes as one would expect of a childish pop fan defending their precious idol who had recently received an unfavourable review of their last record. To attack the critic is a sin. So whilst they accuse Jeff's criticics of being Pharisees, maybe they need to take the log out of their own eye whilst noticing the splinter in others' eyes. I love Jeff Dubin, as a fellow Christian, he has a lot of talent and is a gifted speaker and apologist. I just think he needs to address these issues just like those who are tempted to criticise those who point out these weaknesses.

Thanks for the comment. I agree with you. I attended a church with a reformed pastor, but I’m not a Calvinist. I just can’t get away from the idea of God giving us the freedom to choose. I also like the reformed preachers, for the most part they tend to be really good teachers. I’m a little concerned about their ability to do outreach work. it seems like Christians that are not Calvinists tend to be better at outreach. Personally, I am not familiar with Jeff Durbin’s ministry. Thanks again for a thorough comment and I’m glad to talk to another believer who is not a Calvinist and yet appreciates the reformed preachers/teachers.

Wow this is great. Thank you!! You have helped me see how Jesus really is ruling right now. I like the post millennium view. I still am expecting a future millennium though. One thing is for sure. The way we rule, the way we conquer is by enduring persecution (not denying Jesus). And after we endure, we will rule with an iron rod with him in the resurrection (the completion). That’s from revelation 2-3. The reign of God (kingdom of God) now is the growth of the sermon on the mount attributes (law of God) (the growth of the body of Christ). I think you’re right, Gods law should infiltrate into people’s lives and they might be in rulership positions. But remember we conquer by enduring persecution. Just like Jesus. A seed first dies to bring forth a tree. CROSS => CROWN But also The CROWN is the CROSS

How is it the post millennial view teaches that the 1st resurrection in Rev 20 speaks of a spiritual resurrection, when this group of martyrs that is raised already had been made spiritually alive, hence them dying for the witness of Jesus?
@oracleoftroy
@oracleoftroy 10 ай бұрын
Sorry, I'm not sure I follow. The first resurrection you are speaking of is verse 4-6, right? Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were: 1. those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw 2. the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and 3. those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. *They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.* First off, I note three groups of people in this verse, and only group 2 are martyrs. I never understood why premil speaks of this verse as being only martyrs. I think verse 5 is explicitly calling what happens to these groups the first resurrection. It seems to be setting aside everyone else, the "rest of the dead" as not part of the first resurrection. "The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection." Verse 6 says: Blessed and holy is the one *who shares in the first resurrection!* Over such the *second death* has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. The ones who experience the "first resurrection" are the ones: 1. for whom the second death has no power 2. they will reign with Christ for 1000 years And what is the second death? The end of the chapter explains it in detail: 12ff "And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. _Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire._ *This is the second death, the lake of fire.* _And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire._ " If I use premil categories and try to understand who ends up in the lake of fire according to this chapter, it sounds like only people who experience the first resurrection, which are usually reduced to just people who are martyred, will escape the lake of fire, all others, including genuine faithful believers, are thrown into the lake of fire. But we can see from this text that it's specifically those whose name is found in the book of life, not merely the martyrs, who escape it. So something is off about the premil take on verse 4. The Bible speaks of two deaths and two resurrections elsewhere, but it explains them a bit differently. The first death is sin, where we are separated from God and are condemned for our wilfull rebellion against him. It's isn't merely a physical condition, but primarily a spiritual condition that leads to physical death. The first resurrection is regeneration, where we are dead in sin, but are raised in Christ with the sacrament of baptism being a picture of Christ's work in bringing us to life in him. Those who experience this first resurrection, a new life, spiritual rebirth, regeneration, etc, are the ones for whom the second death has no power. The second death and resurrection is explained well in Rev 20. The condemned are sent to the lake of fire, the second death. The saved are glorified and live eternally with Christ on a renewed earth, the second resurrection. But applying these categories from the rest of scripture immediately creates another problem, those who experience the first resurrection reign with Christ for 1000 years. Here the church is that kingdom of God that is in the world though not of the world, and the entire church age is Christ's saints ruling with Christ as the head of the church and king of kings until the end of the age. But now premil can get a jab in; the church age has lasted for over 1000 years. What gives? Yet Peter, in speaking of the timing of the final judgement (also spoken about in Rev 20) claims God isn't being slow or delaying, but applies the principle that a day is like 1000 years and 1000 years like a day for God. In that way, it doesn't seem like the 1000 years is meant to be taken as exactly 365250 days to the hour, but rather a very long period of time that is none the less "soon" in God's timeframe. (I personally think Christ will return before the week is out, so in another 4000 to 5000 years, but I don't hold to that dogmatically.) I hope that gives you some things to reflect on and a better understanding of how Postmil approaches Rev 20.

“the belief that the return of Christ will take place after the millennium, which may be a literal period of peace and prosperity or else a symbolic representation of the final triumph of the gospel.” - Dictionary of Christianity in America "According to postmillennialism, in the present age, the Holy Spirit will draw unprecedented multitudes to Christ through the faithful preaching of the gospel. Among the multitudes who will be converted are the ethnic Israelites who have thus far rejected the Messiah. At the end of the present age, Christ will return, there will be a general resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment will take place." - Keith Mathison - Postmillennialism: An Eschatology of Hope Note: I'm quoting these as found in an article by David Schrock titled "Postmillennialism and Theonomy", which is critical of the position. I don't find it to be a great critique (he seems to miss the mark of what postmil holds, sometimes with concessions hidden away in the footnotes), but I do appreciate that he is trying to be very fair to the position and his opening remarks about it are pretty spot on in my view.

@@jlgoodwin9856 You are kinda missing my point. Jeff Durbin and his 'end abortion now' group are trying to emphasize that we as humans must care for our children at all costs, and NEVER to sacrifice their lives. This said, he has NO problem believing in a God who doesn't do the same. If God is as good and all-loving as we say he is, then there would be a VERY small portion of souls who would be separated from him for all of eternity in a fiery furnace. God would keep working on souls long after this life-time. Otherwise literally BILLIONS of his children are being tortured right now, and the number will only grow exponentially in time. That is a SICK understanding of God. And if you - as a Christian - don't like the concept of a bigger and more loving God who rescues a greater number of his kids from eternal torment, then there is something seriously wrong....

@@JS-gz2nw I don’t know you but I want you to know I love you and care about you. I know I personally I have a tendency to come off cold and blunt but please know that’s not my intent. But the argument behind that statement is one of emotion and not of an understanding of how God has revealed himself or how he operates. Not everyone created by God is his child but there’s a group that are (John 1:12, Romans 9:8). The reason being for this punishment isn’t some bloodlust or some sadistic pleasure in watching people burn. It’s justice, it is the warranted because we are all guilty of cosmic treason against an eternal being. The same God who punishes the guilty is also the same God who loves so much that he takes away the wrong doing of His people. This is an incredibly over simplified version of the gospel I just want you to know that I’m not giving you everything. You may call it “sick” but I assure you if you put any of us under a microscope, or if you could even take a gander into the mind of a person (myself included) you would see that the heart apart from God is wicked and Hell would be justified. In fact this God that demands justice is so merciful to humanity that he has not just wiped us out, and he even made a promise not to do so. Now onto the topic of abortion we’ll simply of God is desiring justice in the land and will call for justice in eternity then we as His people are to hate what he hates and love what he loves and in this case that’s to fight for the right of those who bear his image to even exists. As I stated above God has made a promise not to wipe out humanity and that justice that he seeks would be the same if for both the children of God and those that are not his children. I know this was posted months ago but I do hope to strike up a dialogue with you. I will be praying for you

So, whats wrong with smoking and drinking? I don't understand. I have noticed however, that the same Christians who have a problem with others smoking and drinking, they themselves engage in gossip, criticism, sarcasm, complaining, nagging, arguing, excuse-making, gloating, arrogance, fear, worry, anger, bitterness, hate, revenge, money lust, impatience, cowardice, irresponsibility, and thoughtlessness, among many other sins. So who are they to judge others? Maybe they should get the log out of their own eye, so that they can see to get the speck out of their brothers eye.

@oracleoftroy
@oracleoftroy 10 ай бұрын
I don't think that verse is all that relevant to how many people are actually saved. Let's crank it up to 11 for sake of argument and say that so few find the gate that the number is zero. After all, Romans 3 says no one seeks after God, all have fallen short, etc. Is salvation by what man seeks and finds, or is it the work of God? To say that man on his own unaided by God cannot find the narrow gate does not by itself mean that few or zero people will be saved, because salvation is of God, not man's finding. Since God is mighty to save, there is no reason he couldn't chose to save a vast majority of all people who will ever exist.
