For those who wonder why Morgan is not a big star, she signed with Epic Records. But I heard her say in an interview that she wasn't willing to compromise with some of the music industry's agenda, so they dropped her after 2 albums. Achieving fame was never one of her goals, it was always about the music. Along with all of her amazing talents, she has integrity as well.

What you should understand here is that recommendations are based on your personal interest and taste. The algorithm works in such a way that you have to "search" for a specific genre or subject in order define what you like and what you might wanna hear next. For example if you start watching videos with anything about the universe pretty soon you will talk and sound like an astrophysicist... 😂

The problem arises when your interests are too wide for it to comprehent :P I watch Veritasium, Numberphile, Tom Scott, but also stuff like Good Mythical Morning. I listen any kind off music randing from jazz to electronic to extreme metal. I watch science content, history content, video/photo tutorials, game engine tutorials, 3D modeling, general entertainment. I'm pretty sure that KZfaq can't handle my ADD of interests xD

I really like it when you guys take pop songs and change them into different styles. It can honestly can make those songs better in some cases, but I don't think this worked as well. The original was already soulful and retro, so this is kind of redundant. Still sounds great, just not really necessary.

FlowersInHisHair I mainly enjoy Post-modern Jukebox because they actually change the songs they cover to be more retro and stripped down, and for a lot of pop songs, that's a good thing and it can be a huge improvement. In this case, the original song was already stripped down, soulful and retro, so they aren't adding anything by covering it. She's still an amazing singer, but they just haven't improved on the original like they have with other songs.

I guess, more than that, the audience would not take, they wouldn't know where to place you. But, just the same, maybe she's in for something even bigger. Lord knows what that might be.

My wife and I were at the show in Richmond, Va. Her performance was amazing. Removing the usual bluster of the instrumentals and replacing it with a subtle single piano accompaniment allowed her voice to be the focus of the audience. Lyrically, "Take Me to Church" is a metaphor, with the protagonist comparing his lover to religion. The song grew out of Hozier's frustration with the Catholic Church which, as somebody raised in the Protestant Quaker faith, he saw as dominating the social and political outlook of the Irish state.[6] "Growing up, I always saw the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church", Hozier said in an interview with Rolling Stone. "The history speaks for itself and I grew incredibly frustrated and angry. I essentially just put that into my words."[2] In an interview with The Irish Times, Hozier stated that he "found the experience of falling in love or being in love was a death, a death of everything ... you kind of watch yourself die in a wonderful way, and you experience for the briefest moment-if you see yourself for a moment through their eyes-everything you believed about yourself gone."[7] The song contains sexual undertones; Hozier elaborated that "an act of sex is one of the most human things ..but an organization like the church, say, through its doctrine, would undermine humanity by successfully teaching shame about sexual orientation ... the song is about asserting yourself and reclaiming your humanity through an act of love.[8] "Take Me to Church" draws inspiration from author Christopher Hitchens and paraphrases the poet Fulke Greville's verse "Created sick, commanded to be sound".[9][10][11] The song's title was often misinterpreted by Christian pop listeners, with the message critiquing the Catholic Church lost in translation. In June 2019, Hozier explained that the intention behind "Take Me to Church" was to "write something that, that was a kind of celebration of sexuality." Hozier admitted that people took the title at "face value" and "were very upset when they found out that" it was not a song "actually about being taken to church."“I'm not condemning the church or religion on the whole, just that one policy [the anti-same sex marriage policy], which seems so wrong to me." Hozier is not gay.

@@yeymarrincon6780 I am a writer. If I write a book with a male lead and then it is changed to a female for a movie production then it isn't the same is it? I didn't write it for a female character. There is a certain integrity to the original product that I prefer. You can write gay love songs all day long and make videos but if you do it just to piss people off.. then mission accomplished I guess. When I heard the song originally it made a lot of sense to me. I love Morgan and her version is lovely and great. But the original... without the video... priceless.

This came on SiriusXM the other day, and it was the first time I ever heard her voice. I actually pulled over to listen to it without any distraction. Morgan James' voice deserves one's full attention. She's brilliant. And what I like is she can be powerful or delicate without all the unnecessary, showy vocal gymnastics which have come into vogue in vocal/pop/R&B singing in the past 20 years or so. She is direct. She doesn't need to bombard the listener with a dozen different notes within each word - she nails it with simplicity and power.

I've seen a lot of comments on the fact that you all used male pronouns, personally I love that you did. In the original song by Hozier, female pronouns are used, not male. The song is about more than just the persecution and oppression of LGBT people and their rights, it's about love. All forms of love and that, no matter the form or between whom it is shared, all love is natural and deserves to be recognized. For Morgan, just as with Hozier, that love is between a man and a woman (as far as I know) and so, in my opinion, the use of opposite pronouns is appropriate and fitting to the song. Amazing cover, amazing voice.

This cover has been stuck in my head. He’s an insanely great pianist and arranger and her voice is off the charts. When just two people can create such an immense intensity, I find it overwhelmingly beautiful. Just listen and have a great day.

Dear Ms James, while a priest now, I did a couple years in a choir and have two years of lessons of operatic singing. As such, my hat (literally, my priest hat, the one you can see in my picture) goes down. You are a real talent, Ms James. Your voice has great clarity and you have masterful control of it, you sing with a lot of emotion too. That is why folks pay big money, to hear that emotion. That is real performing art. Brava, Ms James. With respect, Fr Gavrilo

Sooo I've just spent the last 3 hours listening to this song on repeat and comparing it to other 'Take me to church' covers as well as the original...and then decided to set up a profile on here just to leave this message. So, here goes. The Post Modern Jukebox cover of 'Take Me To Church' is, in my humble opinion, the best on the Internet, far surpassing the original song and going as far as blowing Ed Sheeran's cover out of the water.Absolutely incredible. It gives me chills!Keep up the amazing work that you guys and dolls do!

I like the original, but this is just stunning. The simplicity is one of the aspects that gives it such power; just her incredible voice and a piano accompaniment. She has to have exceptional talent AND confidence to dispense with conventional instrumentation to gloss over any mistakes - she doesn’t make any. Wish I had come across her and PMJB a lot sooner, but sooo glad to have stumbled upon this, bettar late than nevar.

My lover's got humor She's the giggle at a funeral Knows everybody's disapproval I should've worshiped her sooner If the Heavens ever did speak She's the last true mouthpiece Every Sunday's getting more bleak A fresh poison each week "We were born sick", you heard them say it My church offers no absolutes She tells me, "Worship in the bedroom" The only Heaven I'll be sent to Is when I'm alone with you I was born sick, but I love it Command me to be well A-, Amen, Amen, Amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life If I'm a pagan of the good times My lover's the sunlight To keep the Goddess on my side She demands a sacrifice Drain the whole sea Get something shiny Something meaty for the main course That's a fine looking high horse What you got in the stable? We've a lot of starving faithful That looks tasty That looks plenty This is hungry work Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Good God, let me give you my life No masters or kings when the ritual begins There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene Only then I am human Only then I am clean Oh, oh, Amen, Amen, Amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life
