LOL at all the people complaining because it was audio dubbed. How exactly do you people think music videos are made? This would literally be impossible to sound like a studio when you're moving through a house. Footsteps, background actors, random farts, etc. Not to mention the artists are constantly running around when off camera to get in the next position. They'd be out of breath and sound like crap. Just shutup and enjoy the song already. God almighty.... At least Scott is trying new stuff. For a first time, this was phenomenal. If you're looking for more one-shot videos Kurt Hugo Schneider is a master at the technique, and yep, he dubs too. Can we also talk about how Sara Niemietz absolutely killed it in this song? I insta-subscribed to her channel because of it.

The main reason I subscribe and watch PMJ videos is because they are real, and NOT lip syncing. If people want to express their opinion on what makes PMJ great, they can do that without out you LOL at them. Produced Videos and lip syncing is not where I want to see PMJ go.

This is fresh. I love the one take camera shots. Just one camera following all the scenes. No cuts. All in one take.
@markotodorovic7013
@markotodorovic7013 4 жыл бұрын
Except there are cuts. So called one takes are never one takes. It's cleverly hidden cuts in editing that make you think that it's one cut, while in reality it's bunch of 10-20 second takes stitched up together to make it look like a one take. Whenever there is something covering the screen from bottom to the top (Even if sides are not covered) there is a hidden cut, when camera passes by something like at 00:34 the wall without any moving elements, than again at 00:45 wall again (this one is super obvious), than 01:01 man's back etc. Nontheless top notch cinematography and editing.
@CGD316

@axelvetter

@@markotodorovic7013 DOP Clint Byrne says on the Blackmagic Design website (a BMD camera was used): “We initially had a backup plan of using cut points which we had inserted in the choreography but in the end, we didn’t need to use them. Once we started shooting and saw everything in motion, we realized that it would be possible to do it as a real one take and that we could achieve our goal. We couldn’t be happier with the end result." It took the crew 17 takes! The tricks you mentioned were used e. g. in Alfred Hitchcock's "Rope". They had to do that as the camera couldn't hold enough film stock to shoot the entire film in one go.
@markotodorovic7013
@markotodorovic7013 4 жыл бұрын
@@axelvetter Well they are used to this day in modern so called one takes. But it is really suprising that this is areal one take. Because there is so many moments in which it appears like there is a hidden cut.

@@markotodorovic7013 Also 3:11. The camera movement is super unnatural as it focuses in on the dancer's face and then pans back out to the tapdancing. If it is a true one-take, it might just be some strange editing because there is definitely some digital zoom/movement there

You do realize this was all done on one take, yes? If they do another one-take video they could do, at the most, the style changes musically (like the evolution of Pop music video done by Pentatonix as an example). To change set design and wardrobes would defeat the purpose of the "one-take" challenge though (in my opinion).

Wow, Sarah's and Rayon's voices go really well together! So cute! I love the camaraderie of PMJ's troupe of folks - it always shows through in every video. Everyone seems to be having a genuinely good time. And I LOVE how you credit everyone - well done!

I think that's a new genre of greatest hits album--the people _are_ the hits. Seeing all those faces, it just felt like family, and you wouldn't even know it if you just listened to the song.

@@ClintByrne It's not really one take. The editing seams are evident if one knows where to look. It's still an impressive piece.

Robb Reel haha that's funny I shot it we actually choreographed points if we needed to cut but this was the final take and outside of a digital zoom it was all one long take. Source: me I carried the camera, lit the rooms, and sang along the whole time. PMJ is super talanted

@@ClintByrne I am not doubting the incredible talent, nor that each take was one long shot, but no amount of insistence will convince me that it's a single, unedited take when I can see the seams.

Robb Reel I totally understand because we choreographed places (doorway, back-wipe, doorway, curtain) we could cut but in the end there weren't any! Personally I would have liked one more take because as the DP/cam op I can see all the times the Movi was fighting me and some other technical details, but the dancers, extras, band, singers were working really hard and I was relieved when the director called a wrap. However due to time constraints and fear that it wouldn't work during the planning we had to have cut points as a backup plan. In the end we did 17.5 takes and they used the last one, I get why you think there are cute because we planned it but luckily we had everything workout so we could use one take which was always my goal because I love real one takes. I want to do another one like this with the band in the future tho we learned a lot doing this. And they keep putting out inspiring new songs.

This song gives me hope when its hard to see the light at the end of a very long tunnel. Bring back the roaring 20s and 1950s! Or ya know, the original song is pretty good but, PMJ dose a good job making it vintage. Bring back the 1980-1990s.

this is my new favourite thing. the actual cover itself, the vibe, the direction, Ginger Rogers resurrected from the dead... AMAZING. and it's not often i lose my shit over a cover but you have done such an epic job! The all-in-one-take gives me such Vincente Minnelli vibes too. Just gorgeous.

I really enjoy that Scott Bradlee has very little ego. This video is the only one I've seen that focuses on him and only for a second. He gives a wink and a nod and it's only so the hornline can disappear around the corner. Notice he always lists himself at the bottom of the billing after the other performers. Great guy.

I haven't looked at the comments in quite a while (well until just now) but back when it was released, I vaguely remember some people moaning that it wasn't the standard 'people in front of a microphone' type performance. Change is bad and all that I guess.
