@@bluemarshall6180 No my friend. It was a trend in that era after world war II. Communist was not only a problem in the Philippines but all over the world. In asia Communism started in North Korea and attempted to spread to the North. Same thing in Vietnam and China, Laos, Cambodea etc. In the Philippines the Huks who were actually world war II guerilla continued to promote communism very strongly in the mountain areas. But when Magsasay became secretary of Defense the American CIA spear headed a program of winning the hearts and mind which was learned from the situation in China and Korea. And no to promote Ninoy Aquino it was during this time that Ninoy first became known because Ninoy was a journalist who came home from Korea ang CIA sent him to mingle with the HUKs if I remember right the kumander was Luise Tarok. Ninoy became a bridge between Tarok and Magsaysay. This series of incidences led to the surrender of most of the HUKS and to Ninoy Aquino becoming a pro communist advocate but with out promoting armed struggle Aquino joined with Tarok and the Huks to promote land reform and other social justice causes. This association with the communist was later on used by Marcos to silence Aquino when Aquino was charged of rebellion and sedition. At that time that a new brand of communism was born from the remnants of the HUKS and the intellectual UP students and young professionals Aquino was already in jail and was not a main factor in the spread of communism contrary to what you can see in the internet now. Today the propaganda capitalize on the fact that Aquino was convicted in the same military court with Victor Curpos, and Bernabe Buscayno. But Aquino was not arrested with them. Aquino was arrested in the congressional floor together with Senator Diokno, and many others who refused to recognize the new constitution. Most of those arrested where released the same day except those who refused to endorse Marcos constitution and some remain in jail with Aquino, Diokno Mitra etc. Marcos like most dictators of the 70's capitalized on the American fear of the spread of communism and so he assured them that he will fight the communists in the Philippines to death but in return he asked for horrendous amount of military aid which he used to bribe the military with higher pay than most other government employees and with fundings for military programs that was open for corruption to keep the higher ups happy. Marcos himself may not be corrupt but he used corruption to keep his control over people. My sugar cane farming family were mostly Marcos supporters but I joined the anti Marcos movement as a young kid. I have seen some of the minor abuses of the military like pointing a gun for no reason but just because you look suspicion but I have heard from victims of real abuse. In 1986 after Marcos was gone I met other Task Force Detainees of the Philippines and one of which was James Daguman who they say used to be a bright student but he was insane when we listen to him because he was tortured by his captor and detain without charges. It's very sad that today's generation are ungrateful to the sacrifices of real people just because they hated the Aquinos due to a political quarrel between Aquinos son who was not even involve in the movement and was sheltered in a rich home during the dark times. We who are small and unknown have grave despised Duterte for robbing us of our honor and promoting the Marcoses as the hero and all of us are maligne just to bring down his mortal enemy the son of Aquino who was our hero.
