Very nice solution to a problem i was just about to encounter. I just got my # 10 jewel potbelly stove today on a great find from FB Marketplace. I measured and then searched for the correct adapter and could not find one. I turned to old trusty KZfaq and found your excellent solution and all within 1 hr. I want to thank you for sharing it really helped to quickly end what was shaping up to be a real pain in the ass!

Pretty good idea. I just got an old Southern Pacific caboose potbelly stove from my grandpa that has the same oval outlet. I'll give this a shot.

GREAT video!! Thank you very much. I'm currently struggling finding the same fitting but mine is 8" long on the oval and about 5.5" wide. Everything I see online is over $100 for the fitting. I've already sent back the 1st attempt which was a 8"x8" oval to round for $50... when it arrived it was round to round.. Your idea is genius! I thought about making one but your end cap idea is AWESOME. Hopefully I can find one that's affordable. Thx again for the help

Thanks! I saw this one guy take the pipe you have and he squeezed one end until it turned oval then he forced it on to stove. It took him a minute but it worked out

Pretty sure that is how it’s supposed to be done. The way it’s done in this video may collect creosote in the adapter he made.

I have the same problem. I'm not sure why you would need an end cap, maybe to winterize you cabin when you're not there. Our winter's arnt that severe in Australia, I hope my hardware have an end cap, or order one from the States.
@16B98 ай бұрын
You can install an end cap at a "T" in the chimney to use as a clean out. It depends what you burn and how hot as too how bad your chimney soots up. Good day mate! :)

You can going to any wood stove company and get the adapter

Just take a round pipe(might have to use stainless as 4 and 5" black round pipes are hard to find in someplaces) and bend it to the oval shape ...works for 6 and 7 inch oval too! Im currently running two stoves with oval pipes, no adapters, no issues!
@stemyourfuture68753 жыл бұрын
I did attempt to bend a circle to an oval for my stove initially but could not get the geometry to work and ensure a snug fit. Perhaps you could post a link to some pics of your setup. better yet a video of bending a circle to an oval:) Thanks for sharing!

I tried that, and it didn't work.
@kirkstinson73162 жыл бұрын
@@ministrydrummer You have to use the older snap together style pipe. After you snap it together crimp the seam with some pliers to keep it shut and so it will slip over the oval

@@ministrydrummer Same here. A 6 inch round pipe ovals out to 8 inches on my stove. I need a 6 inch by 3 inch oval. Any ideas what size pipe will oval to that size???? Thanks! :)

I'm not an expert, but I think this way is dangerous in the long run once the black tar builds up in there, I thought the pipe has to go in the stove
@timothybageant74297 ай бұрын
I thought the same thing. It’s a creosote trap. I’d worry about that thing catching fire at some point
@tropicalflamingo45803 жыл бұрын
My potbelly stove opening is the same size as your one. I’m just about to hook it up in my greenhouse and the 6” pipe is too big for my stove. Duravent don’t make this adapter. This looks like a solution, How has it performed? Have you had any problems with creosote dripping onto the “lid”
@stemyourfuture68753 жыл бұрын
My stove is not in use yet. I suspect any creosote that close to the fire will burn up. My research indicates creosote builds in the cooler sections of your stove in pipe run. That being said allow for access to inspect periodically just to be safe...I appreciate your input...

Have you tried bending a stove pipe into an oval shape at one end?
@ministrydrummer3 жыл бұрын
I tried that and it doesn't work. I ruined a $25 piece of new pipe trying.
@landonlandon5533 Жыл бұрын
Take a piece of string go around the oval, mark it turn the oval string back into a circle then measure for exact pipe size. This isn't going to work long term. Use welded seam pipe not that crimp trash to make the oval. I have a small acme similar to this it's 5" pipe. Probably why you couldn't get a good fit.
