I’m not a mum but i work in a nursery and have dealt with 70+ children potty training over the years and one of the best ways i’ve found to encourage them to use the potty is to make it into a game and let them feel in charge. We use little timers that we set for every 30 minutes and then see who can get to the potty the quickest and it works well as they get really excited and learn to a sequence of events. The other thing that a lot of our parents have done is asking if they want to sit near you on the potty whenever you go to the toilet, and they think its exciting as grown ups are doing it too so they feel extra clever🙂 Riley and Jackson are so adorable by the way, i just love your little family❤️

I am not a potty training expert but my child care center just refreshed us on potty training so I thought I’d share. My child care center does diaper changes standing up by the toilet ever 2 hrs consistently and encourages the children to sit each time and try to go potty, but doesn’t force them if they are upset or just want to play. They also recommend using the thicker training underwear for potty training because it feels different than a diaper (easier for child to understand it is not for going to the bathroom in) while still soaking up messes a little better. But pull-ups are helpful in the period where you are taking them every two hours to try and sit on the potty. Also my school stresses having the child learn to pull up/down their pants and pull-up/underwear, maybe that could help her feel more in control during the process if she doesn’t yet do that.

The only thing that worked with my son was letting him be naked for a few days so he could recognize when he was peeing and pooping. It only took 1 day for him to start to understand. We use those pull ups when he's sleeping or when we leave the house because I'm not brave enough to try that yet lol. But the pull ups feel just like a diaper and she will probably keep going in it if she's wearing all day, its too hard for it to "click". I had tried the timer method and it never worked, all it did was exhaust me.

Try to let him be in underwear when he’s in his car seat but just put a towel under him to help the clean up! It worked well with my toddler

I knw every kid is diferent! Belive me i am a mom of 5 kids! But when she's ready you will know, Riley is a pretty smart little girl she will get it on her on time! I try to potty train my 3yo and he was not ready at all i kind of got frustrated at first but then i step back and try again much later (several months) and when we were ready to potty training him he was basicly ready and ot was so much easier because they bassicly ready! It took like less than a week for him to pee and poop on the toilet! Thank God! Just keep being patience they will eventually get it! Good luck! And love ur videos! Xoxo

We did naked bottom days then commando with pants and straight into underwear. Pull ups are definitely not needed and can sometimes lead to a prolonged potty training experience.

Kayla, I don’t have kids yet... but I watch all your videos and love following along with your babies. It’s made me feel like I’ll be more prepared when I become a mom... and SOMEHOW... this week.... I took a pregnancy test and it was positive!! I’m scared and excited... we were only casually trying but I was always afraid I couldn’t get pregnant. I’m a week and a half past my missed period and JUST got the positive test Sunday... so I really hope nothing is wrong. But I just wanted to share that with this community!! ❤️

Another SAHM here. From MD too! I soooo appreciated this video. It gave me the motivation to ACTUALLY rotate my daughters toys after months of just thinking to do it. Also, she picks up as soon as she’s done with something. Like if she’s pulled out her stuffed animals and then wants to play with some blocks (that are in her toy chest), she has to put the animals away first and then she can pull out the blocks. Sometimes I let the messes get bigger but if she steps away from her toy area, she has to clean up. I’m not sure exactly when I started that, she must have been at least 12m and she’s now a few days shy of 22 months 😭. When she was smaller I would help more but with age, I help very little. I’ll definitely get involved more if I’m feeling more impatient lol. You really do have to teach them young! Her cousins will come over and they’ll toss things for me to pick up (because their mom picks up after them) and that’s just not how it is in MY house. No judgement to any mom for ANY decision. I just feel as though if I don’t pick up after my almost 2 year old..I’m not gonna pick up after my 5 and 7 year old niece and nephew.

I would recommend “How to get away with murder” on Netflix. Btw I LOVE your channel your babies are so cute. I’m a new mom, I have a 4 month old baby and it helps a lot to see how down to earth you are and how you say everything just how it is not like other people who always say how amazing it is to have a baby (which I agree) but never talk about how hard and exhausting it is too.

Hi Kayla what you said in this video was all I needed to hear tonight. I always dreamt with having 2 little girls and when I had my first girl I absolutely loved and I assumed I would have another girl and be done. Well I'm now 28 weeks pregnant with a boy and have been disappointed since I've found out. But seeing you with Jackson and your words in this video helped me so much and made me excited now. Thank you so much for your honesty and sharing your experience.

Also, I used to pick up myself during the day once and at night once. I definitely didn’t have allll my daughters toys out like this though. She had a few she played with and that’s all. But as she reached 2 I had her start to help me and say well you made the mess not mama. Now at 4 she picks up everything she takes out of her toy box and puts it back. She’s also very aware of anything she’s taking out she’ll have to clean herself. She has wayyyy more toys now as she’s grown and can tell us exactly what she wants and her dad will usually get it for her, buy we keep her favorites out or separated so she doesn’t have to dig through her toy box and make a mess. Also if she asks I will still of course help her but usually I’ll tell her she needs to get those things cleaned before we move on to the next activity and even if it takes her an hour (she takes many many breaks) she’ll do it! So definitely have your daughter help out a little now she’s big enough

We are early potty training my 15 month old. It’s hard work! Every child is different and Riley will get it eventually so don’t stress about it! I also was hoping so badly for a girl and did have a girl but I felt so guilty for feeling that way. But your videos have me wanting a little mommas boy in the future💙 We are loving Sons of Anarchy right now...also Ozark is really good. Both on Netflix! I’m always looking for suggestions too lol. We pick up throughout the day otherwise it drives me crazy lol and also my little one is more likely to go back to toys if it’s more organized.

I can relate to the killer movies. I read a lot. My favorite books are murder and meyhem. Toy control grandma's-1 bin at a time for play. I have a variety of books, blocks, little cars etc. I don't care how many bins they play in, the kiddies help me toss the toys in the bin & then pull out the next bin. For this old lady I don't stress about all the blocks together. Tossing toys back in the bins is a granny game. As the kids got older, the toys grew too. I love your channel, so real mommy life. Hugs hugs for you & your sweet family.

I feel exactly the same as you! I have had the same success too until recently! It's starting to click! We aren't there yet at all but she's finally running to the bathroom when she has to go or just went. We've done real underwear (The thick training kind) twice and it was a disaster so we are in easy-ups until we're brave enough to try again. She still doesn't like to be told when to go though. There are now non-negotiable times and if she goes "happily" she gets a mini m&m. The stickers work okay but it started as just a sticker on her shirt , then a chart, and then a chart and 5 gets her a prize or lollipop. She's doing so good now that I have to phase out the chart or make it harder because she's getting prizes too much! Non-negotiable times are morning, nap, before we leave the house, before getting in tub, and before bed. Being consistent is most important but pull back like you said if anyone gets upset. My kids are the same gender and age as yours! I feel like you do having a boy and girl! You rock! Also I love you accent :)

Good for you for trying again to potty train Riley! I'm sure it's not easy. Despite what some comments say, you do what you think is best-- you are mama! I am due today with my first baby, a boy, and I definitely felt gender disappointment at the beginning. Now I'm happy to meet whoever God is sending us! Hopefully he comes soon. Hey Kayla, for my son I didn’t bother with anything special at all (no little potty or rewards either). I had one of those little seats you put on the big toilet and a step stool so he could just use the real potty when the time came (less mess and nothing to transition from!). I kept it very nonchalant because I wanted him to lead so it wouldn’t be stressful for either of us. I just invited him to the bathroom with me every time i went and casually asked, “do you need to go too?” when I finished. If he said no, I just said “ok cool” and flushed and gave it no further chat / pressure. Eventually he said yes and when he finished he decided he was done with diapers! Maybe this “non-method” would work for Reilly since she also responds well to being in control! It’s a good way to know that they’re really ready for it. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

I feel the exact same way about having a girl now as you do about having your baby boy! I had a boy first (2.5 now) and I now have a 3 month old girl. I swore it would be a boy because I already had a boy and swore I'd be a boy mom. But here I am with a boy and girl and I love them both, but sooo cherishing my little baby girl 🥰😍💞! Also she reminds me of your little dude Because she doesn't nap ! She may takes a 20 minute nap 😭 some days I'll work for hours to get her to sleep then once I lay her down she wakes up within a few minutes.. I cannot wait to sleep train at 4 months and thank you Soo much for introducing me to the method you used for your kiddos. Also my son (2.5) tries to take his diaper off in his bed and pees everywhere 🤦🏼‍♀️ so easy ups have been our friend as well lol!! Love your channel and family ❤️

I have a 2 1/2 year old girl and we just finished our 3rd week of potty training and what I felt worked for me was having her diaper less for the first three days. This helped her realize she didn’t have anything to hold her pee. She had a couple of accidents the first day and would throw a fit if I had her sit in the toilet. The next day she had one accident and began using the toilet. The third day no accidents and peed and pooped in the toilet. My husband and I made a huge deal whenever she went and she loved the praise. On the fourth day I introduced her undies and we had a couple of accidents but because she had trouble understanding that she had to take off her undies. After showing her she eventually picked up on it and the 5th day she began telling me when she had to go and I would help her take off her undies and she went on her toilet. I would use pull ups during nap time and bedtime. We set up a routine to have her go right before bed and first thing in the morning. After about 5 days of that she began waking up with dry pull ups. I will add that this is our third attempt. We tried when she turned two and it was a two day disaster. We tried again at 26 months and again a complete fail. But this time she showed more signes that she was ready so we went for it again and it was a much easier process. Also I didn’t just take her to her toilet every 15 minutes or used a timer instead I would just reiterate “remember If you have to pee go in your toilet!” The goal was to get her to tell herself when she needed to go. This is my first child so I was new to this and I saw a bunch of KZfaq videos and compiled a bunch of different methods and this worked for mine. Riley and Jackson are the cutest 🥰

Also, im a boy mom and I love it too! My first is a boy and I'm pregnant with another boy. I'm genuinely happy because I just love that bond and I'm glad my son will have a brother. My husband does want to keep trying for a girl though.

I’m struggling with my daughter as well I’ll ask her if she have to poop in the potty but some kids aren’t ready and I like to clean a big cleaning during the day then I’ll clean up before bed if my daughter made a big mess lol mom life Thanks for this video ❤️💕

*I am just editing my video of how we potty trained our 18 month old boy. The first 4, 5 days were stressful, but then we took it with less (high) expectation and after 3weeks/1 month I can say he is fully potty trained with barely to none accident. If I´m not mistaken you understand Spanish, so maybe you can pick up on some of my tips in my video tomorrow 😊*

I just finsihed Sinner on Netflix it's a great thriller. I am a pick up in the middle and end of day. Otherwise my house looks like a toy store got hit by a tornado and I can't get across my living room haha

I found letting them go commando omn the bottom half that it works better. that way it is taking the diaper feeling away where she will feel like hmm no diaper so the alternative would be the potty chair. if that makes sense? that way there is nothing to pull down and she can just go on the potty

I also agree with the being naked for a while.. pull ups are the same as diapers to them. So i find underwear is better than pulls ups. My son just turned three and he has it down 100 percent. Except at night.. where we use the pulls up for that because I don't even know how to potty train him at night at this point. But try undies. They will have many accidents but that's how they learn they aren't babies anymore and don't need diapers (or pull ups) . I recommend the potty training underwear, they are thicker. www.amazon.com/dp/B07CJ1ZRTW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9TE-EbXJT6KD9

You could try using m&m's as a potty treat. Every time the timer goes off say if you go sit on the potty then you can pick a color to have, if you go potty on the potty then you can pick more than one to have. Maybe that'd help 🤷‍♀️

We have a book, potty, underwear and teach him where 💩 and pee goes to but he sees it more as a show hahaha. About potty training , my sister has 3 and her strategy is : take off their underwear, ask them nicely, give them 3 passes when they do it on the floor and explain , then punish them in a way I never did ( take their favorite toy , something u know it gets to them) . If you have done all this , then they aren't ready yet . She had success every time

Pull ups can feel like diapers to them since it absorbs the pee, I would suggest training underwear with some patting to not soak your floor but still cloth material so they feel wet and are aware of when they are wet. And if possible the first couple of days no pants at all, that worked with my son. Beside no asking to go to potty, just saying ok NOW we are going to the potty....

I have a 2.5 year old son and an almost 2 month old daughter and girl I was fricken terrified when they told me baby #2 was a girl lol I was the mama that honestly never wanted a girl I don’t do pink and sparkles and barbies it’s just not me lol but now that I have one of each I cannot imagine it any other way. Now don’t get me wrong she’s only 2 months and already is the sassiest baby I’ve ever seen but I’m glad I did end up having a girl. She challenges me everyday.

I understand you are working with Pampers for the video as a sponsor, but pull ups actually hinder the potty training process. They are glorified diapers and kids are smart enough to know there truly is no difference. They can be helpful for night time, but that’s the only time they should be used. I taught in a toddler classroom for several years and the biggest things that seemed to help are supporting their independence surrounding the bathroom, such as learning to dress and undress themselves/pulling up and down their own pants or underwear. In the same light, making them part of the clean up process. Yes, toddlers can help clean up their pee and poo accidents. They learn it’s not fun to clean up their “mess”, change their own clothes over and over, and eventually learn its easier to just go on the potty. One of the best tips I can give though is to follow your kids’ cues. Wait until they are truly ready or it’ll be an uphill battle from start to finish. Some children do better waiting until 3. And make sure if you decide to potty train, to stick with it. Going from potty training and not potty training several times sends mixed messages to littles and less to confusion and set backs. Consistency is key. So make a solid plan IF you think she’s truly ready and go for it. No turning back. Some kids also do well with positive reinforcement (i.e. - fruit snacks, candy, extra iPad time, favorite toy time, etc), and some children do better with extinction (i.e. - taking away a favorite toy, tv/iPad time, no dessert after dinner) it all depends on your child. It can be a frustrating process, but hang in there. The day it clicks makes it all worth it.
