After months of work, prep and weather delays we are finally pouring the elevated concrete porch slabs so we can begin finishing the exterior of the ICF mountain homestead. We took extra care in preparing the form work and filling the voids with spray foam to keep the concrete in place. We are pouring 25 cubic yards of 4000psi pump mix and will need all hands on deck to finish over 1400 square feet of surface in only a few hours. A lot of things could go wrong with a project like this so cross your fingers, bite your lip and let's do this! This porch slab weighs 100,000 pounds! Shout out to Mathis Concrete for supplying us with all the ready mix used in this build.

Because you speak with people that have no clue about compressive/tensil/shear/point load/etc. concepts needed when working with concrete. House building with stick frame/trust is such a simple and revolutionary building technique that now unless you work in commercial/industrial you will never be exposed to that side of structural engineering.

So freaking true! I'm getting ready to destroy my old rotten deck and this is a real contender for surface material but this is the first channel I've seen addressing a raised concrete platform.

Its not something thats common at all. I framed a house that was a basement, and the owner turned the area that was supposed to be backfilled under the patio into a storm vault. We framed double 2x10 joists at 12" O.C, than placed 2 4'x8' sheets of plywood that the concrete subs prepped and poured over. Instead of prepping over dirt, they pressed over gravel that was placed over the subfloor. The neighbor who was building next door did the same thing, but used metal pans since their span was shorter.

@@poatjoler Its not something thats common lol, this has nothing to do with being exposed to this or that. Out of the hundreds of homes I have walked I have only seen this done twice down in GA. Mind you a structural engineer was not even involved. You can't design something, that their is not a demand to build or engineer lol. Silly logic.

Well? I've seen a few cement jobs in my time. Before any crew shows up there is so many variables that can turn a job into a nightmare. Things beyond yours' and the crews' control. This crew showed they had a lot of experience and knowledge under their belt and also had a couple of tricks up their sleeve (simply because of their knowledge and experience). You lucked out. You got the best crew for the job. They knew what-and-how to solve the problem when the cement truck deliveries started to get too far ahead of the work. That is a very rare talent right there because of the rarity of the job you hired them to do. Did you name the company or the guys that did this incredible job? I apologize, if I missed it. - - - - I spoke too soon (@ 16:16). When I finished the vid I saw and heard the crew's names. That was an awesome finish to your vid.
