After reading most of the comments, several things become obvious. Most people do not know what Andrew and his property look like. The ONLY one that's Andrew is the first pour video section where he does the base for his tower.Andrew answers in one of the comments that three pours share the truck. The 2nd video part that generated so many comments about ineptitude, had nothing to do with Andrew except he filmed it and posted it. The final section shows them disposing of the left over from the truck in front of Andrews shed. This means Andrews pour was the LAST of the three. This means that he received the final pour. So the state of the concrete "was what it was" after 2 previous pours and being in the truck for hours. Andrew had no control over the slump at this late state of the delivery. Since its Andrews channel he posted his first, the others simply as something of interest. It would stop a lot of "noise" if Andrew explained the situation instead of assuming people would understand.
@AndrewCamarata4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, IDK, lots of "experts" in the comments section whenever concrete is poured. All these pours turned out fine. Even that extra I dumped infront of the shed, it was only 1" thick with no re-bar. It has some cracks around the edges, but its still fine.

Andrew, we all love your video's. There is no doubt in my mind that you are one of the most energetic and enterprising young men on KZfaq today. I'm impressed with most of your jobs. It really hurts me to see you do concrete. You really need to learn the proper steps for laying a slab. It is so simple and would make you put everyone of these sidewalk superintendents to shame if you would just watch a professional crew do a slab and ask questions as they progressed. Or you can do what I did years ago, I hired a crew of journeymen concrete workers to work with me. I was already doing concrete, but having experienced people working along side of me I was able to learn more on each job. You would need to get bigger jobs and keep them coming to support a full time crew, but you could hire one old timer to run the jobs until you picked up the proper steps for concrete work. I say steps because that is what concrete requires is knowing when and why you do certain things. Like screeding, tamping, floating and knowing when to put the steel trowels on it. You can do it and I know you want to do it right, so please take some advice from us old guys and learn how to do it right. Now go get that money kid.

That was some half-assed concrete work if ive ever seen it, guys throwing 4x12 finishing trowels, throwing and spilling extra mix on the ground, not to mention nobody had a pair of rubber boots on. The wire mesh sank to the bottom of the slab instantly with out rasing it on standoffs, not to mention tamping it down like in the video. that mesh needs to be pulled back up as the pour happens as it will also sink from walking on it, it also appears only one pour was screeded and floated before finishing meaning that only one pad was torn and sealed properly. And for any other concrete guys out there, how hard were you laughing when bull float bob was walking back and forth each pass with a 24ft pole behind him

Around the 2:00 mark, in screeding that concrete ramp to a feathered (thin) edge as if it were troweling plaster on wallboard... Seriously, concrete cannot be feathered to an edge and be durable, especially on the ground---it will break up. It does not have the tensile strength for that; concrete works in compression. The approach should have been a tilted slab with a somewhat dry mix and steel reinforcement... then use sunken forms for all the edges so the ramp's top edges are at ground level.

You have a remarkable ability to work well under pressure.
@JETFOURLITRE5 жыл бұрын
Piss and pebbles. If you really must pour it that wet, ask for a High Range Water Reducer (super plasticiser). You can have a high slump and workability without blowing your water/binder ratio out. The super binds itself to cement and pozzolans and places a negative charge on all of them. Like charges repel and it disperses the cementitious content evenly throughout the load. After some time the super loses energy and the particles return closer together giving you back your strength. Using water pushes them further apart at random with no return. Further apart means less knitting of Ettringite and therefore a weaker bond. You will also have less chance of plastic cracking and segregation using a super. The higher the water/cement ratio the more permeable the concrete will be, leaving it more vulnerable to sulfate attack/chloride ingress etc. This will attack and corrode your reinforcement. Hope this helps.

Its a big no no to use a fresno prior to bleed water coming up. In many municipalities in northern states an escrow inspector will fail you if you use a fresno for exterior concrete after a certain date or below certain temperatures. The poors need to be opened up with a float first, weather it be wood, composite or magnesium. But using a finishing tool i.e. fresno or steel trowel too early encapsulates the bleed water and closes up the cells. What this does is it creates a weak area in the concrete just under the surface. The result is spalling especially in the winter. The spalling can be very dramatic if you fresno in cold temperatures and then the slab freezes 3-5 days after placing. Simply put, get yourself a mag bull float.
@AndrewCamarata6 жыл бұрын
Everyone's always telling me I don't know how to do concrete. I have never had a slab that I poured crack, and they always turn out perfectly flat. I hired a "professional" once and the slab is full of cracks, and the center is 1" lower than the edges.

It might have a super plasticizer in it. It makes the mix wetter and easier to work with and doesn't effect the strength. @jsteelt126 жыл бұрын
You are making the finishing harder on yourself when you take the slump up that high. That looks so wet that its probably not "slumpable" which means you have exceeded the allowable water content for cast in place concrete. If you were using it as grout for filling masonry walls it would be fine. It would be better if you ordered a 4" slump and added a mid range plasticizer which will take it up to a 7" or 8" slump. Then you can work it easier and not sacrifice strength. Adding that much water will greatly reduce the strength of the concrete. Also, if you can help it have the plant add the plasticizer onsite. They don't always agree to this but basically a water reducing admirer such as Super P plasticizer causes the molecules to be positively charged, which reduces the friction between particles and allows flowability to increase. However the charge induced by the admixture will only last for 45 minutes to an hour. So by the time the truck gets to your site and starts spilling the plasticizer may be ineffective. So thats why most concrete guys try to get the plant to add the admixture onsite.
@luemn76914 жыл бұрын
@@jsteelt12 I dont think he cares. Personally a 4 inch slump is best as long as im not the one pouring it. Concrete work is a pain in the butt if you're out there pouring in 100 degree weather.

Its much cheaper to do the job once and do it right then it is to hack it and risk having to rip it up and redo it.
