Its a ritual followed to please lord Shiva to escape droughts and a family practises tradition of dancing and sacrifice life to do this task. Both girls r sisters. Prabhas past loves elder girl who dies in an accidental gunshot by goons then he motivates other girl to learn dance and she was blackmailed to dance for bad guy seen in video but she was saved by prabhas...she was suppose to dance without stoping so goons tried to make her path difficult but prabhas helps her but he imagines his wife(elder girl) in her and becomes emotional and lastly she respects him by falling on his feet

It's not Kathak it is kuchipoudi classical dance form from the state of Andhra Pradesh

You're right it's a different person. Why was prabhas sad that's coz he's seeing the other girl dancing and he's missing the other girl(probably she's already dead) .
