Good videos, your loft conversion is looking really great so far. I really can't wait to see the internals and the final finish. It's takes a lot of effort and time to achieve great beauty. Keep it up.

I can’t fault you mate . You seem to be a right grafter and working on this project in your spare time so fair play. I have two questions. What height do you need above your head when you reach the top of the stairs ? Is it 1.8 m? And what is the height requirement along the spine of the the conversion need to be. Walking area. And one last question, what thickness insulation is needed in the roof to meet building regs? Cheers.

Hi there. The only way to get an exact answer is to speak to your local authority building control officer. There are rough guide on .gov website which are really good, but it does vary from one area to another, and possibly between Wales, England and Scotland also. I think Ireland is less strict but I may be wrong. Generally they ask for 2 meters on landing and rest of room can be lower. Sometimes they allow less on landing for example 1.8 on lowest pitch and 1.9 in middle depending on circumstances and some may request 2 meters in room itself. PIR board on old house is usually 100mm between rafters and 30mm over top, but newer houses may need to comply with stricter rules if rest of house is built to stricter standards. There are other ways to achieve it using less between rafters and more over the top, or insulation foil rolls. Stairs are another issue as you can use space saver stairs but some building control officers don't like them. I went for 75mm wide proper stairs and I'm glad I did as it feels like a normal stair case. Hope that helps!

You made a nice job of that velux pal, I don't like using those always I find them too weak tbh, I'm always paranoid when walking over them. 👍🙂

How much coin have you saved doing it yourself? With all your hard work is it worth it with the space you have gained?
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE 5 жыл бұрын
Save a significant amount, but that's not accounting for my time. But I guess the answer to your question is what is it worth to you? I love where I live, I can add an extra room, I get the satisfaction of doing it myself and can watch my design come to life. Also I know it will add more value to the house than it has cost me if I were to ever sell in the future, but for me it's not about the money. That said, it'd be stupid to spend a lot of money on something that added little space and no value, unless you really loved your location.

Scott I'm the slowest video editor and uploader! The outside of the loft has been finished for months. Half way through the interior, just trying to find time to edit and upload, and continue with the project. But as Charles says below, I have another day job, a family with two working parents. This gets done in what otherwise could be leisure time, so sorry about that, but it ain't getting done any quicker! Thanks for your continued support.

Thanks Charles. As you say I have a day job and this isn't it so finding time is a challenge, but I'll get there eventually.....I hope!
