My IS200 Turbo running 305bhp
(The left most gauge is the boost)
Basic specs:
1G-FE From a Toyota Altezza (2l Inline 6)
T28 turbo
Log manifold
Speeduino standalone (Mapped at Hybrid tune)
External wastegate fed into the exhaust
650cc injectors
All engine mods were done by www.fourpawracing.co.uk/

Thanks, I'm gonna be trying to do more. It's a bit hard ATM because of lockdown. The screamer had to go because I got stopped by police once or twice and it just got too risky.

@@stefan_4508 I swapped out my pistons and rods with gen 2 celica gt4 pistons and rods with 560cc injectors from a Caldina GTT Greddy Emanage Blue and a walbro 255lph fuel pump ..not much in the grand scheme of things and 368whp is possible.

What are those gauges and gauge pod that you're running? I've swapped all my dash lights out for some greed LEDs, so I'm looking at getting some green boost and temp gauges to match

They are from eBay. You can change the colour of them. The gauge pod was custom made. You can get a similar one from four paw racing. If I get motivated enough, I'll make a video on my set up.

Sounds good! So you just got the stock unopened block. Boost bye rpm to not kill rods. Do you have stock head studs in it or aftermarked? Im planning to turbo my sportcross in the future. But i want atlest 280-300 hp. So this sounds good for me. I read you have stand alone ecu but still combined with stock ecu to keep all stuf working. Do you also have idle control this way? I see you have moddet the throtte body aswel. Works good with ecu? Thanks and ill stick around to follow you on this car.

Hi, so yeah, stock block, stock head studs. It's pretty good and very NA feeling power. Definitely a better power curve than most turbo is200's I've seen. And yeah, the standalone is working along with the stock. Throttle body has been modded and feels very much like a manual throttle body. I actually messed up and ran the car in no coolant so the engine blew. I have many videos still to edit and upload but the car is being broken for parts and I'll be moving on to something bigger and better soon! Hi Alistair I just aquired my Is200, but sadly due to Covid, im waiting for me to be allowed to finish my drivers license. But I have been thinking about turbo charging mine, but im curious of how easy it is and how much power should I expect with it still being reliable? and also what are the torque specs? wanna beat my friends when I get there hehe. Keep up the good work, I love it :)

Hi, If you're not familiar with modifying cars, it can be a pretty difficult thing to do. So the company that built mine are coming out with stages for the is200 soon. The stage 1 is the most reliable making 250bhp and 270nm of torque. The good thing with their kits is that you can upgrade while keeping the components from your existing kit. For example, you can have a stage 1, then a year later, go for a stage 3 and end up with around 450bhp or more and 500nm of torque. The stage 1 is around £4000 but it basically means your car is as reliable as stock, but faster. Then the stage 2 onwards I think they are still developing but it's definitely the route I would suggest. Other companies won't offer the build quality and reliability.

@@mathiasguldager4331 yeah, it may sound like a lot but it really is the best way to go about it. It's all installed and dynod for you. There are cheaper options. You can get a kit and have it installed for around £1800. But it will be poor quality, poor power delivery and if you want to upgrade it, you need to replace literally every part.

How did you make the throttlebody actuate only manually? What kind of a mod did you do on the fuel pump? Was thinking of changing my stock one to be sure

The stock fuel pump is actually rather decent. We just have a fuel return line. In terms of the throttle body, I don't actually know because four paw racing did it. If you want, follow them on instagram and ask them.

Stock engine. Just boost by RPM.

Presumably mapped to slowly build boost through the rev range so it doesn't bend a rod? Have you got the stock throttle?

Hi, exactly that, we have limited the torque, and considering it has a small turbo, it hits peak torque very early in and instead of it dropping off, we just add boost to keep the torque flat. And it's the stock throttle body but we have modified it so it's basically fully manual now

If not how did you get it communicating with the body control module to run all the electrics? Final question (apologies, not many people who have done this kinda stuff are communicative, so I appreciate your responses) why is it that you went from a squint manifold to a log? Cheers

I have a speeduino ECU, which is a standalone but as you said, the gauge cluster and everything except from the engine is controlled by the stock ECU, I didn't install it, four paw racing did so I don't know how it was done. Sorry. So this car was a R & D car for four paw racing. So we started with a 2j manifold with a 1g flange but it had some bad welds, so we decided to see if the log manifold would be better, you know, less lag. But it has already cracked. It's still on the car now but four paw are looking into making their own manifolds. So far the best manifold I've seen for these is the rank one, but it's pretty expensive.

@@alistairherrett5444 ah that's really interesting. I didn't think a 2j mani would even come close. I'm trying to find the best sounding manifold - that's more important to me than its performance. I thought your first one was a squint one, as it looked very similar. Regarding lagg, I've been talking with a friend about this and we've both been researching it - the single biggest killer for turbo cars spooling efficiently is the downpipe bore. As a rule of thumb: make the abdolute biggest one you can fit in the car! I'll have to figure out how to do the ECU then. I was contemplating doing an N/A build with isolated runners, but it'd require a lot of engine work to be how I'd like. Turbo is far more accessible these days! For a turbo set up with 300bhp made to a very high standard. £5000 + vat. The kit you will get will be ready for upgrades so you can go back to them and get forged internals and you'll be looking at 400bhp +

Hi, we all know that is200 ecu's are a little bit strange and different from others so in this setup right now you're already running with a standalone right? Asking couse want to know if i thought right that the oem ecu isn't handling that power anymore

Hi, yeah I'm running a speeduino sourced and installed by four paw racing. It isn't 100% standalone because the stock ECU still controlled the gauge cluster and some other things but it controls everything on the engine. It's very good and way cheaper than most other standalone options.

@@leonardodinatale3528 around 250bhp/8psi Anything over that and you get into risky territory Then you have the option of a DET-3 which costs about £850 for purchase, installation and Dyno. You can run about 270bhp/12psi pretty safely with this. And then it's standalone which costs about £1250 for purchase, install and Dyno. You can get just over 300bhp with this but be very careful with who installs it for you because most people say they know what they are doing but they don't.

@@aronacs8920 well it's a cheap build with mostly eBay parts so no. But if you use quality parts then yes. My radiator burst the other day, the water level dropped and I didn't notice. Coolant got past the headgasket and into cylinder 6 and the engine blew up

Nop, it's completely unopened. It did take a lot of work to get this power figure though. Standalone ECU, a lot of Dyno time and a pretty decent mechanic.

Thats a nice one, i love that pops. I have is200 stock 1gfe, how much boost / hp can i make without engine mods and so as not to lose significantly engine life?

Thanks! So the 1gfe is a pretty weak engine when it comes to boosting it. With a stock unopened engine, most people run up to 12psi, depending on turbo size and the condition of the engine. My engine is from an Altezza that had 60k miles so we were pretty confident it was healthy. We run boost by rpm, meaning, as the rpm goes up, so does the boost. It's one of the healthiest ways to get a weak engine to high power numbers. At the peak I'm hitting 24psi (you can see this on the left dial) and making 305bhp. My engine is a stock unopened 1gfe. Mind you, my engine was built by four paw racing, the guys that are currently building the most powerful 1gfe in the world.

@@alistairherrett5444 oh i see, so it must have great performance to reach that. My lex has 300k km mileage (about 186k miles) but there are no problems with it, oil leaks ect. But yea, 24psi its definitely too much for this, i just want a little better acceleration and boosted engine exhaust sound

@@barti890300 yeah, so I would suggest just getting a bigger turbo. 30mm or more and running it at around 8psi. You will get the kick of power from the big turbo and an awesome sound, but your engine will still be safe. Just watch out with the fuel cut defenders because you can run lean with that and blow the engine. It's much better to get an ECU and map it. You should expect around 250bhp. Nothing crazy fast but it will feel fast

@@bobmylo both the 1gfe and 3sge are beams engines. The 1gfe (the one in a stock is200 and the one in my car) is a 2l inline 6, the 3sge found in the Altezza RS is the one you're thinking of.

Very very few people have actually built a 1gfe so it's hard to say. The guys to ask are four paw racing based in Huntingdon. They reckon a well built 1gfe can get over 600bhp

Supposedly good up to around 350 maybe 400 HP after that rods give up . But there's countless 2jge build out there , swap in gte rods and pistons with some machine work and you'll have a solid 2jge

It's hard to say really. You could probably replicate it now for £5000 if you already had a lexus. It cost me much more because of multiple engines, wheels, interior parts and so on.

Is200’s are a nightmare of car, especially when you put a turbo on it, I had one and blew the pistons on like the 3rd day of having them on. Better off with a seat Leon mk1 cupra/r , Bam engines all day long.

Yeah, it's an amazing engine but the pistons, rods and intake manifold let it down big time. I would happily bet that 500+ bhp is easily done on these engines.

Even more. The intake manifold is restricting us quite a bit so figuring that out now. Can probably get closer to 330 on stock internals. Stock gearbox

24psi. But it's boost by rpm so it only gets to 24psi right at the top of the rev range

Boost by rpm and the rpm is lifted to 7.2k . Most of the boost is in the last 1k rpm

How do you get it through an MOT with all those lights on the dash?

So the air bag lights just needed resistors which we installed for the most but one fell out. The handbrake is because of the custom rear lights but they excused that thankfully. The last light is the traction control which I don't think is necessary because they didn't mention it.

T28 eBay one. I think it's a tiny bit too small. A t30 would be better I think

Never actually timed it but contrary to most is200's, since the RPM limit has been raised to 7200, you can hit 60 in 2nd gear. We timed it on our phones and got into the low 5 seconds.

@@eresuplays Haha, yeah man, completely stock internals. It's mostly down to the standalone ECU and the guys who tuned it. Boost by RPM is what gets you the good power

@@abdallahturk6113 well, as long as you use a standalone ECU and it's well mapped, they are great. Many people use piggy back ECU's and eventually they just blow up.
