“You're teacher said that? Cannot be your teacher wrong.” This was my African uncle teaching me something in fifth grade and ended up teaching me a university level method. I stayed up until 1AM learning it and woke up at 6AM to get ready for school. When we had Math and were reviewing the homework nobody got it right, except me, I went to the board to explain and was met by a bunch of confused stares. The smart kid even said they didn't understand what I was doing. My teacher was just as shocked and said, “Yeah you wouldn't understand because Gloria is using a working that's in university. Gloria when did you learn this?” and I said, “Last night. 🥲” if they knew how I had to learn it just so that I could go and sleep. This has definitely brought back some memories.😅

Honestly, I would always run away from my mum when she decided to tutor in a subject I had problems in. Tears would rain and my dad would shout at me for crying for nonsense. Honestly, I hated parts of school because of that.😢😢

Reminds me of my Dad trying to teach me math when I was 7-9 years old. But he's not even asian. He's german. After I overcome my induced anxiety I've learned during my A-levels and at University that I have a talent for math. Wish I knew that before.
