I too have a 49" ultrawide (G9 Odyssey) with a top mounted monitor too. I decided, on the recommendation of fellow sim racers and seeing Davecam, Dan Suzuki etc to go for triples, I went for 27" 2160p flat panel LGs. I took down my trust G9 which had served me well and stored it away before I put up the triples, after setting it all up, launching into ACC I quickly realised I'd made a big mistake. My frame rate tanked, I'd gone from 4k to 2k yet it was still about 30 percent worse. I hated the bezels and the crap orientation when booting into windows, I also hated the mess of cables and heat coming from the 3 screens combined. I loved the fact I could finally see out of my right window though 😃. I persevered for a couple of weeks but later I put the triples on ebay, got back what I paid for them and went back to the awesome G9. Having that massive one screen encompassing your whole windscreen and left window looks so incredibly realistic to me. Maybe I've been spoilt by having everything in 4k so the downgrade really didn't help my decision either. I think looking at the new crop of vr headsets coming out over the next 2 years that will be the logical progression, not triples in my opinion. Just my 2 cents 👌😊

Hey Chris thanks for your input…I get it 100%…I too went from 120fps on my ultrawide to 70-90 fps with triples in ACC…although I’m still getting 130- 170fps in iRacing which is great! I believe your odyssey is a newer Samsung unit than mine and I think it has a larger radius with more curve to it to give you that wraparound feeling compared to the one I have…not really sure on that though it’s just an observation when I’ve seen guys in videos with their ultrawides…oddly enough my Samsung 49”, just like my Samsung TVs in the house, throw a bunch of heat…maybe the new odyssey doesn’t throw as much? but I get it..it’s much more simplistic in nature as to installation, less wires, cleaner look, easy setup, etc. Who knows as finicky as I am I may go back to an ultrawide again in the future. 😂 I have VR but not a fan as it makes me sweat quite a bit and I don’t like to use it when I’m streaming.
@chrisperry5244

@@its_jakester your very welcome to the input mate, thanks for the great video 👍 Yes the Odyssey is a 1000r curve so it does give a kind of wrap around affect, I'm about 18-20" from the screen so it pretty much covers my peripheral vision 😀 . I had an older ultrawide before which was great but this definitely gives that more natural viewpoint as it curves around enough to fully emerse the eyeballs 😃. Don't get me wrong, I can really see the reason for triples, I guess for each of us there will always be compromises that some of us can live with and some of us can't, some people would take the positive aspects triples bring and they would outweigh the negatives, same with people like me who would rather take the positives of an ultrawide over the negatives of triples. I do think VR will be the future, the new crop of ultra light, perfect fov and wireless displays will be too big a draw for us to ignore, as always though it will be an expensive upgrade, the quest pro is already bring touted at around £1500! No one ever said sim racing would be cheap though 🤔 😃.

I have triples with 27 inch (my current setup) with a 4th on top for race info. My previous setup was an ultrawide 49. I may feell a little more immerse and changed from 49 to triples just to improve my side views which right now I dont think it was worth the money because it was not that a big difference. Setting up triples was also much more difficult. I will still keep the triples because I already spent on it, but the 49 was really good; specially less cables.

I'm in the situation of deciding what to do. Just got a new PC and now I need to update my old samsung q70r (4k 60hz) I'm just so confused as to what to buy. Triple 42 C2 or get a 49 ultrawide. I know that triples will be a pain in the a$$ and I won't get full 4k from the C2 because they don't have DPI but I'm wondering if an Ultrawide will give me more view than just getting a 55 or 65 TV. So if you guys had to do it again what would you do in my situation. Like the Asus PG48UQ but they don't support dolby vision. Love how we have so much to choose from but man does it make things so complicated. I'm on Ryzen 7 5800X and 3080 10gb with 4x16gb ram. Any advice is welcome thanks

I've had several rigs with triples: 48" OLED (still on my 2nd rig for guests), 32" 1440P and now 32" 4K (M32U). I also have several VR headsets (Reverb G2 being my favorite) and had the G9 49" for about 2 weeks. Right now my triple 32" 4K setup is by far the best experience I've had, which is also on a full motion rig where the monitors move WITH the rig, which is the only way I could have them so close to my eyes without the frame hitting the underside of the screens as I move. It's SO crisp and center screen is 20" from my eyes (above the steering column of my DD2). The triple setup is MUCH more immersive and the 180* FOV gives you a better sense of speed and feels more like you're driving a real car. DEFINITELY go triple! (VR is fun and more immersive but more taxing on me, so I rarely use it).

@@its_jakester It's simplified when you have the right stand. Anything made of aluminum extrusion should be rigid enough to keep the screens stably in position. Also, I've done professional wiring for decades and always use double-sided velcro rolls. Just mount everything that way, and can easily re-velcro when changing something. I’ve got triple screens and my brother has 49inch Samsung Ultrawide, I think there are pros and cons for both, the biggest benefit of ultra wide is the one continuous image and the dash looks more like where it should be on the right side verses triples. Triples have the advantage of slightly better immersion (if you can live with the bezels), but on any monitor set up, playing in a dark room helps a lot, I find triples work much better in single seaters than in tin tops. One thing people never seem to talk about is that all monitors are only 2 dimensions, and no matter what you do, you can never get away from the fact that there is simply no real depth to the image, it is simply a flat image that cannot provide proper depth and scale. I have VR as well and it simply cannot be matched by any monitor set up, it has a far greater sense of scale and depth, people complain about the FOV, but you don’t look with your eyes, you look by turning your head in real life, so to my mind it’s a non issue. It’s only really 20-30 degrees we are focused on anyway, everything in peripheral vision is out of focus. For me, if you can get on with VR, it’s by far the most immersive experience you can get, and blows any 2D monitor set up out of the park. Here’s an interesting video of how we look by turning our head in real life when driving. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nd-Jh5R_xLzGfqc.html&feature=share

I ran triples for about 10 years. Gradually upgrading from 3 x 24 inch 60Hz panels to 3 x 27 inch 144Hz. I got a C49HG90 about 2 years back for several reasons. Less hassle and lower running costs. The effective death of Multi GPU support. You loose 50% of your fps adding 2 panels, so adding a 2nd GPU would counter this. I got sick of the bezels and the often distorted images in some games. After 2 years the only thing I'll upgrade to is the 1440p version or, maybe if they make a 4K version or, we get larger sized panels in the near future. Been doing this with mine... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbaWabFkx9mwm2g.html

I agree with all your points. I prefer less headaches along with less cables, less heat, etc. when running triples.

I'm trying to deciding what to do. Just got a new PC and now I need to update my old samsung 55 q70r (4k 60hz) I'm just so confused as to what to buy.

Agreed…having options is great but too many can be confusing…the 49” G9 Odyssey with the tighter radius is better than the Samsung 49” ultrawide I’ve had since 2019 as my radius is later and thus doesn’t give too much of that wraparound sensation…but will still be better than a flat 55” screen… The real key and getting a large FOV is to be able to get as close to the screens as possible with your equipment the closer to the screen you are the larger field of you you can have…That being said a 49” Ultra Wide is still only two 27”screens together so you’re going to lose a lot of peripheral vision on your right side and not be able to see out your right side of the vehicle…I would imagine that would be even more so exaggerated with a flat screen…now that I have triple 32” monitors I honestly don’t think I could ever go back to one single monitor whether it would be flat screen 65” like I used to use before I purchased my 49” Ultra Wide…the ultrawide is great if you want a smaller footprint too…but being only 27” the vertical height is like 12-13” of viewing space compared to 14-15 inches with a 32 monitor…that gives you better viewing and in my opinion more “openness” and not as claustrophobic if you will… Setting up triples isn’t very difficult at all if you’re interested there’s a couple great videos of another KZfaqr Sim racer showing step-by-step how to set them up I’d be happy to send you the link to that vid… just let me know…you shouldn’t have a problem running either with your GPU or CPU. I have an I9-9900K and Nvidia 2080 founders edition that I built in 2019 and run my 32” triples and live stream with OBS studio at the same time without issue. Let me know what you decide and if you have any other questions…glad to help.

@@its_jakester very nice explaining 👌 so my best bet is either going with triple 27 or 32 I'm guessing from your experience. If that the case what are the best choice out there? I will bring my monitor stand much closer going down this road now I'm at 40" because of the large screen but I will set my stand behind my DD for maximum immersion. If I were to filter my preferences it would be oled with support of GeForce dolby vision if possible and a minimum of 120hz support. If I can get away with 3500$ or less for triples I would be happy but I can stretch the budget if needed. As far as links I'm all for it anything to help me get this going I'll be thankful I'm a noob at PC stuff but I learn fast and with good video support I usually make out very well. If I missed anything let me know. I also should mention I use a home theater AVR for sound and video so if these monitors can work with my setup I'll be very happy I have a full 5.1 setup for sound and video. If the monitors have 2.1 I'll be happy I know DPI adapters don't support 4k right now. Thanks for helping out.
