I work and climb for a WISP(DFW area). Done some cell work in the past also. Definitely prefer the WISP work over the cell work. Don't have to climb every single day. Not as young as I used to be, so I need breaks for my knees and back lol.

Loved the video man, I've got a quick question for you. How easy is it to get into this line of work, can you join a company with no experience at all? What type of skills do I need to have before applying to a job as a tower tech?
@JacobHepworth Жыл бұрын
I started with no experience. I'd recommend looking into local wisps. You can always pursue a tiger crew. The job title to look into is Tower Technician.

What is the device you use that attaches to the steel cable? it looks like a Micro-traction or something similar but how something like that would work on a steel cable is beyond me
@JacobHepworth Жыл бұрын
This is a lad-saf fall arrest device. It essentially slides along the cable. A lever tethers to the user and actuates during a fall. Once engaged, it locks up and prevents downward movement.

Whats the height of that Tower?
@Mike_5 Жыл бұрын
Great skills and work but those Cat5e connectors need protection until they are connected up to the equipment at that height?
@JacobHepworth Жыл бұрын
They are covered with plastic bags, held by electrical tape. We mounted radios and used these cables the next day.

So I always wanted to know. After years of doing this. Cause clearly you have. Do you still get a rush cause. It just takes certain kind for this kind of job. Me on other hand 6 foot lader is my stop point lolz😂 I always wanted to know. If a person falls. All safety gear kicks in. Say person gets knocked out cold. How do you get the person down?
@JacobHepworth Жыл бұрын
Everyone is different but I personally love every climb. I don't get a rush but feel at peace and in my element. We have an escape and rescue plan for every job and are trained to rescue an unconscious climber. The rescue must occur within 15 minutes to prevent blood from becoming toxic while hanging. A safety rope is attached above the victim and they are tethered to the rescuer who then cuts their lanyard and repels with them attached.
@BuildBreakFix Жыл бұрын
Very interesting! Always wondered how they did that. Very appreciated you took the time to reply. Thanks 🍺😉👍

With each climb you get more comfortable a little higher. When I first started it was around 100, then it was around 200. Now it doesn't really bother me anymore. I have a couple towers where we have fiber to 400+. Just have to trust your gear and don't get in a hurry.

Limping definitely take time to get used to, free climbing trees I used to be scared 10feet but now 50+ feet or higher no worries

My kind of tower climb! Ubiquiti radios, or Canopy (Cambium)? What WISP?

@@JacobHepworth Nice! I used to work for a carrier that partnered with Touchstone Energy Cooperative (local power Co'ops) for their customer base in rural areas. When I worked there they covered AZ, NM, TX, and IN, while they were starting to bridge into other states like OK, but anyway, I had to ask. I knew by the title given it was Ethernet being strung, it was more then likely a tower for unlicensed band radios.
