Reminds me of a story I heard a month or so ago. Dude is a certified welder applying for a job that is listed with a salary of $35K-$85K a year. Dude is asked to do a sample weld during the interview. He does two--one is okay but messy; the other is perfect. When asked why he did two welds he replied, "The first one is for the $35K job; the second is for the $85K job."

I can see this happening when you have several companies you're interviewing, and you know your stuff. This means lots and lots of experience.

Reality is that the moment you try to play ball like this, they will drop you for one of the many other candidates who have nearly identical qualifications and won't be a smartass about it, however fair it may seem to the applicant
@fdm215527 күн бұрын
Depends on what the job is, obviously. And why wouldn't a highly qualified candidate negotiate for fair compensation? This video is obviously playing for laughs but the underlying message is correct.

@@joelee3716 OMG these jobs that are written up like you're gonna be running the place, TONS of must-have requirements, long years of experience, etc. Then the salary is practically entry level. I really wish it was required to post the salary range. It'd save both sides a LOT of time and energy.

Any job that drops me because I dare to negotiate my wages is a job that I don’t want in the first place - it’s their loss as far as I’m concerned.

A business degree applying for customer service. Hopefully it's a side job... no disrespect to the position. I honestly just thought it was more of an entry level role.
@fdm215526 күн бұрын
Like most fields there are a varying roles in customer service departments. For example, our customer service team has at least four managers, a dedicated trainer, and a director. Also not unusual for new reps to have a college degree. Many transfer to other departments after one or two years.

Ok Maybe I missed the point. What type of position was she applying for cause she's asking for $95k and the person behind the sign shows customer service?

@fdm215526 күн бұрын
Our customer service director makes much more than that. 😁 Managers are making $70k and up depending on role and experience. Not common but not unheard of either. Depends on the organization.
@Axle300017 күн бұрын
I probably would've said are you willing to take 85-90k. Your credentials are great but I like to physically see what a person brings to the table after a year (Note: this is a trap don't take this unless you get something in writing)

lol, you aren’t getting that job, and most cities are a small world, acting this way gets you featured in funny anecdotes about the idiot interviewee that had a dumbass response to a low salary number. That person stays where they are and gets let go when they outgrow their role without getting promoted.
