When I was in my twenties....a long time ago, I worked for an audiovisual company that serviced a big hotel. They expected me to wear a three-piece suit as I crawled on the floor connecting cords, etc...for a hair above minimum wage. They lied that I'd be full-time.....I only had ten hours on the schedule! I worked there for half a day and walked out. The owner called me and bitched.....I told him to shove it. Still annoys me to think of this and other jobs that I started and quit immediately that would have been sheer exploitation.

No you are rich . I keep reminding my husband of this. He was blessed to find a good job that pays our mortgage and bills and food and he keeps getting into accidents because he can’t stay off the cellphone . I’m so angry with him. He lost his business because he had so many accidents from being on the phone . If we end up homeless it’s gonna be his fault for being fired. He just doesn’t get it. He will not make even a quarter of the money anywhere else that he makes at this job. I lost my job of 7 yrs due to business closing. I can’t find a job that pays even half what I made . All that’s out there are min wage jobs . Nobody wants to pay a decent living wage. We had to keep my husbands life insurance coz if he dies in an accident, I’m not gonna be able to support myself . I’ll lose the house . And we just bought this house back in 2017, no money down. We still have 20 yrs left. Hubby will be 80. We both expect if we live long enough that whoever is left will lose everything to a nursing home. That’s what happens . They take all of your assets . They go back five years. So if u trust someone to put the house in their name so it won’t be taken but most ppl can not be trusted. I have one sister that I trust . But she’s in even worse health condition than I am. And she will end up in a nursing home way before me . She has a condo . That’s gonna get taken . None of us trust her children . And I have no kids . I was in a nursing home to visit my mother in law with hubby. And there was a lovely woman of 101, she told me she has 11 children. None come to visit or wanted to take her in . That made me so sad. They put her in there. I fear the future is to just kill off anyone over 75. They see the elderly as a burden to the system and they don’t want to be paying SS to anyone who’s living to 100. You know ? They expect u to expire before 90.

When I was a kid, my family and I used to go to this diner near our home and there was a waitress we loved. Years later when my brother and I were in our early twenties, we happened to go to another restaurant and saw her there. She was still waitressing and she remembered us. We talked about money and how hard things were and she said to us that people always say that we don't work hard enough in this country if we have to struggle so hard, and that she says back to them that we work just as hard or harder and have less to show for it. Docs like this make this point. These people aren't lazy. They work FT, most days a week and still can't survive. They are the people she was referring to who work hard and have less to show for it. What do they have to show for working every single day of their lives? Not even the bare minimum of contentment and being able to know all of their bills are paid each month. That is criminal.

I vaguely remember watching this doc before and the second I saw Bridget I remembered that awful thing Mom said, “She doesn’t fight like I would.” And her whispering “I’m tired.” It’s so hard to not only hear a mother imply their child has failed in some way by suffering and dying, but for that mother to be in healthcare. My god that’s so hard to hear.

As someone who has had cancer twice, I was pretty upset by what she said to Bridget. It’s not about ‘fighting’- as a nurse I’ve seen patients fight incredibly hard, but sometimes it’s not within your power. When you are debilitated by cancer treatments it’s also incredibly hard to appear as though you are fighting - some days all you can do is put one foot in front of another! As a ‘motivatiinal’ speech mum- B minus- could do far better!

I don't know, maybe part of it's the fact that you're in a hurry. You've grown up on instant orange juice. Flip a dial - instant entertainment. Dial seven digits - instant communication. Turn a key - push a pedal - instant transportation. Flash a card - instant money. Shove in a problem - push a few buttons - instant answers. But some problems you can't get quick answers for, no matter how much you want them. We took a little boy into Central Receiving Hospital yesterday; he's four years old. He weighs eight-and-a-half pounds. His parents just hadn't bothered to feed him. Now give me a fast answer to that one; one that'll stop that from ever happening again. And if you can't settle that one, how about the 55,000 Americans who'll die on the highway this year? That's nearly six or seven times the number that'll get killed in Vietnam. Why aren't you up in arms about that? Or is dying in a car somehow moral? Show me how to wipe out prejudice. I'll settle for the prejudices you have inside yourselves. Show me how to get rid of the unlimited capacity for human beings to make themselves believe they're somehow right - and justified - in stealing from somebody, or hurting somebody, and you'll just about put this place here out of business!

The problem is that Congress refuses to increase the minimum wage or take any other measures to ensure that people have an adequate minimum standard of living. I'm Disabled, a Veteran, and have been homeless for two years. I'm not a drug addict, just lost my housing two years ago when the Apartment Complex I was living at was sold to a buyer in Toronto, who promptly notified the tenants living with Section 8 or VASH assistance was given the option to move out or pay full market value rent. I found while looking for a place to move to, that most low income housing was eliminated in this same fashion by greedy investors. I bought an old van on payments and was forced to start living in it. I did so for a year and was offered a tiny fiberglass trailer on payments. I found that the person I bought it from had mislead me on a clear title, and have had difficulty getting it registered and legal to tow. I have been stranded at a Recreation Area, above Kingman Arizona for seven months now trying to get repairs done to my van. It is no longer safe to drive, and definitely not suitable to tow my trailer. It has been a living hell, upto 128 degrees at times this summer, now dealing with freezing cold at night and heavy winds. Every time I try to get some repairs made, something comes up. I bought a used generator which failed in a couple weeks, had to buy another one, then my emotional support dog Archie was badly bitten and required veterinary care, my air conditioning compressor failed in my Van, I cut my knuckle to the bone and ligaments on some glass discarding some trash which resulted in an Emergency Room Visit. I have been trying to get help, and have not much success. I was accepted for Rapid Rehousing through the Catholic Charities, but have searched all over Mohave County but found I cannot afford an apartment on my disability income. I am now in a panic as I was notified by the Catholic Charities Caseworker handling my information, had their computer stolen and now my personal information has been compromised. I am on a waiting list for Section 8, basically started over. I did not choose to be in this homeless situation, and have been doing my best to deal with everything I have experienced the past 2 years. I had to literally give everything I owned away when I lost my apartment EVERYTHING!, I did try and keep my many tools, but those to were lost by a "friend" who was going but keep them until I get settled, but would never respond to my calls or texts. I am absolutely sick of my life. I don't live anymore, I merely exist, and it's not much of an existence. I have not showered in nearly 8 months, and haven't bathed in over two years since losing my apartment. I have reached out to every VA organization or service center for help, but am ineligible. I served 6 years in The Air National Guard, and was honorably discharged, but still don't meet the requirements as I was on active duty for well over a year with Avionics Technical School, and was activated during Desert Storm, but could not deploy with my unit, as I was a 3 level technician straight out of school. I have no family for support, no friends, only a few people I have met while being homeless. I have had a fellow vet brings some water bottles and food items several months back, but I don't see how I can ever get out of my situation as my limited income doesn't suffice..

Capitalism wins, killing off the middle class It is all your money. every penny of a billionaires wealth is a penny of another persons labor DEMOCRACY FOR ALL IN THE USA A thousand years ago, if you were a marauding gang and you wanted to take over a country’s land and its natural resources and public sector, you’d have to invade it with military troops. Now you use finance to take over countries. So it leads us into a realm where everything that the classical economists saw and argued for - public investment, bringing costs in line with the actual cost of production - that’s all rejected in favor of a rentier class evolving into an oligarchy. Basically, financiers - the 1% - are going to pry away the public domain from the government. Pry away and privatize the public enterprises, land, natural resources, so that bondholders and privatizers get all of the revenue for themselves. It’s all sucked up to the top of the pyramid, impoverishing the 99%.

Carol Hutchinson actually, many people who come to the US are with very high IQ. Many scientists, doctors, and researchers in the US are immigrants from china, Japan, India etc... I remember one of my math teachers who was a genius and was able to solve mathematical equations no one ever did before was offered to come to the US because of his talents. I understand how some of these jobs want you to dress to kill but won't fork over a uniform allowance. If they had to pay for your clothing you would look like hell warmed over! At the last nursing home I worked they said they were going to provide uniforms for us. Boy they didn't do us any favors. Those damn dark green tops and khaki pants looked like a some kind of pool maintenance uniform. I flat out said I wasn't going to wear that damn thing, and I didn't! I wore my powder blue and white scrubs as I always did! Sick people don't want that pukey green shit!
