Ok for anyone trying to do this too, let me help. I've seen tons of these electric smokers pop up and being touted as powdercoating ovens, it WILL work, but not as basic as just turning it on and done. I ordered some Lynn manufacturing fire blanket, took the entire unit apart, stuffed the walls with it. It got to 350 degrees just by doing that. I also blocked off the vent holes in the back with some sheet metal. Still wouldn't get to 400, BUT, the heating element doesn't care, it only reads and turns off when it gets to a preset limit. So I found the temp probe and put it on the outside of the box, then and only then did it get to 400 degrees, I will be getting some better thermometers and another heat gun today (I can't find mine) and trying to work out how hot it gets, but I just said go for it and coated a few things yesterday that came out fantastic

No problem. So with the basic heating element, a good oven thermometer and moving temp probe outside the box. I can get the top of the box to 375, the middle around 480 and the bottom to over 500. I hang most of the parts I'm doing from the top rack where they sit in the middle, and it maintains 390-440 pretty well. I know thats about where the powder needs to cure, but I'm not 100% knowing if being too hot or too cold by a few degrees means too much. I get it up to temp, toss it in for 20 minutes and it flows nicely and appears to be cured. I beat on a piece with a hammer and it took a bit to flake it off. Thicker items I'll leave in for another 5 mins or when the part itself reaches 400. I still think with any shortcomings this smoker has it's a great alternative to a dedicated powder oven, takes less space than a traditional oven and doesn't require 220v which is fantastic for someone doing this as a hobby.

@@user-nz6bn1tg2q in this oven the temperature probe was just screwed in the bottom of the oven by the heating element. 2 Phillips screws and it came out, then moved it outside of the box. It looks like a silver pencil

@@flatlandAutoSales no screws at the bottoms just a bunch of rivets. I have something that looks like a little probe in the center of my smoker but also has rivets to drill out I think I have to take apart the backing as well I’m not too sure model# 20076716 it’s red

If you are not cooking food in it, then go for it! Looks like the oven has seen quite a lot of greasy barbeque in its life.

wait, how do you powder coat with a max temp of 275?

There is a powder coat available that will cure at 275 F So I've read.

How did you get it over 275? I’ve got one of these but all powders are usually 400+

ok, I did the same thing with a different unit, no it will NOT go over 275-300 stock. I removed the temp sensor and placed it outside the box and it jumped up to 400 no problem

Was bringing it up to its max enough heat to powder coat parts? I read you need 400+ in order to powder coat
