💯 support this message. As a 205 pound 42 year old beginner, the Flight Deck is solid enough to go through the learning process. It also gave me the confidence to learn boardslides. I don't do anything rad or big but, the board works for me. I get 3 month out of them until i want a new one but, they are still good boards when i am done with them.

I'm skating a flight deck now, and it even though the layers haven't snapped and ruined the pop like a normal deck would have by now, I find it a bit too.. bendy. but I weigh 250lbs.... so that's probably why.

As a lifelong 45 year old skateboarder (who still goes pretty hard), I can't tell you how awesome it is to watch a youtube video from someone who actually has put the time in and tested, knows what he's talking about - and isn't a 12 year old kid full of "like, whatever" and "I think it's good" and hasn't even set the thing up... I think I agree with you on the VX vs Flight, except that I go back and forth - I loved my flight deck but the concave was pretty shallow. I prefer the concave on the VX, but it's a tiny bit thicker and tiny bit heavier and I although haven't broken one - it just feels a half-step back to a normal 7 ply deck. I also did try to go back to a 7 ply standard deck from one of my favorite companies, and man - it's incredible how it feels like it has no pop, relatively speaking. Took two tries on everything to feel comfortable on it again. Really tough to go back once you've tried either.

i couldn't agree more with the quality of the review and knowledge of the reviewer. Literally best vid I've seen on anything to do with the flight and VX tech, and there's tons of opinions out there right now. Actually inspiring to see a regular sized man riding a skateboard very well on real street. The tech tricks down the big stairs is the stuff I was most impressed with. always had trouble landing those bolts, so cool to see the boards standing up to random situations like that. I like the VX a bit more because of the santa cruz concave design, but I loved my popsicle 8.5 flight until the tail got a bit softer than I liked. (after way too long to be complaining about btw.) Only thing I could mention is the chipping and razor tail like I hear other ppl having issues with. The VX doesn't seem to be as bad for that so far.

same but I'm forty 1 and I'm not fat per se just thick legs and I been athletic my whole life, But I thought I'd never be able to skate again after my 20's. I was around the same level as the man in the video, but unlike him I couldn't afford a board a week or a day sometimes. stopped skating large stairs, stopped any tech beyond kick/ heel flip , or both fakie off any drops even small ledges, and eventually had to stop any way cuz I was still breaking boards. But 20 years later heard about the flight decks I started back up again and they work I broke a normal santa cruz really quick but that wasnt' vx. ANYWAY FLIGHT WORKED BETTER THAN ANY BOARD EVER FOR ME, I'm heavy and basically a beginner again So I land hard on the tail a lot, and don't catch my flips as of yet either.

I just hope these flight/vx decks never go away. Im 6'5 and 210 and I've never felt more confident on my board. I was always held back because I was afraid my sesh and vibe would be killed by a broken board. But with these things it's not even a thought. If I had to go back to a normal 7ply itd be a total nightmare

Being 245lbs myself, I'm really going to need these. I'm not going to be putting to half the stress that you do from the looks of things but its still nice to know that I don't really have to worry about it that much. The whole idea is to loose some weight skateboarding in the first place

@@doyouthinkitsdead I did a bit yes, but not as much as I had hoped. Other than scratches on the paint, the board is absolutely fine yes. It was more difficult to find trucks and brushings that felt good. A lot of them were way too loose for me.

@@doyouthinkitsdead I ended up with 85A soft wheels. I found that for me the typical harder wheels really don't work well for me. They're incredibly loud and just didn't feel right. But that also depends on where you ride I guess. I'm just on regular street, also with tiles. I have Venture high trucks to prevent wheel bite when i turn; since it's quite easy to make it go further. I fixed that later with harder bushings, so i might get different trucks at some point. I got "bones hardcore 96A" bushings. They're really solid, and prevented my board from literally bending like butter whenever i leaned into a corner a little bit.

I like the dwindle/dsm impact boards. similar tech, but still 7(or 8)ply maple, and not much more expensive than a normal wood board. Still difficult to break and stay crisp and poppy throughout. I’m 6’3, 235, and I’ve been skating an almost double impact on/off for about ten years. I’ve slid through the bottom ply on each nose/tail and a bit in the middle. I can’t believe it’s still skateable and hasn’t broken

I'm 42, size 13 and hover close to 250 . Only reason I'm skating again (and its been difficult man, pump tracks are a cool invention too, helped me get my skate legs back) is this new 'technology'. Happy to be riding again but its about fuckin time. I'm still bitter over the shit they sold in the 90's til recently, nothing but glue and paper ply, they even dropped concave after 89. I've always been a grumpy prick but now I'm an old grumpy prick and no longer give a fuck, so don't bother pointing out I'm bitchin about 30 years ago when none of u were born ! Today we live in a global skater's utopia, and I'm broken and fat n can't catch my kickflips any more, let alone my breath. And all I can really appreciate is that I don't have to give up skating cuz I don't break a board a week. Even though I could afford to now. Youth is wasted on the young my friends. Oh if u don't believe me I bet there are some old grainy pics floating around on-line of the wheels we had to ride for a decade, u might need to 'zoom in' to find them.

I had a similar experience with Flight Decks and the VX Deck. I had a Flight Deck for about 6mo and although it had some little stress cracks showing around the trucks, I was never able to actually break it, and I'm around 240lbs. I ended up replacing it with another Flight Deck just because it had razor tail so bad and the pop had gotten pretty soggy. Eventually I bought a VX Deck out of sheer curiosity, and have been skating it for the past two months, and what stuck out to me is how it retained it's pop so well, unlike the Flight Deck which lost a decent amount of it's pop after a few weeks. I did just break the VX Deck today though (just doing an ollie down a 3ft bank several times), so it seems like the VX Decks definitely are more susceptible to breakage than the Flight Decks. But for how they skate and retain their pop, I don't think I mind.

@@switchfl1p149 It seems like kids today are spoiled. Back when I skated in the 80s we beat the shit out of boards. I remember skating boards where it seem like the tail was way worse than just razor tailed. It would be shortened by inches. I remember having a Bones Ripper board with what seemed like a 3 inch tail and was somehow still able to ollie with it. It seemed like I almost didn't even pop the tail. I remember ollieing over a mini shopping cart on it's side and people asking me how the hell I did it with that beat up old POS. Skating non-stop every day is how I did it. I wouldn’t call 205-210 a big guy, even for skating. I’m a 6’ 300 pound powerlifter/strongman and almost never break boards, they just wear out and get soggy usually. Unless I boardslide or lipslide a skinny ass rail, I’m usually all good unless the board is just wore out and I have never broken a board on a pop shuv with a shit landing with feet together dead middle. It’s bushings that are the main frustration, gotta go rock hard with dohdohs or something the like. I’m also hardly ever dropping off a ledge or anything higher than maybe 2 feet. People thing they can’t skate cause they aren’t under 200, but trust me you’re fine. I skate all the time and don’t think it’s necessary to pay more for these decks if money is an issue for you. I have used and like both but I don’t like the graphic options and lack of variety so I’m usually going with wood. 8.5 decks usually but I like to mix it up with Santa Cruz old school boards. Santa Cruz Winky decks are super fun for a big boy at the park. I usually skate Powell, Santa Cruz, Creature, and occasional randos. I think these brands have sick graphics that look old school. Right now I’m using a classic red Baker board I won in a small little contest on the intermediate park section for guys 30-40 and it’s also doing fine and about a month old, even though I normally wouldn’t buy a Baker cause I’m an adult. Just don’t worry about it and go skate if you want.

Anybody else afraid of these boards dissapearing? Since they have came out I have felt much more confident on my board. Im 6'5 and 210 lbs. I now no longer have to live in fear that my sesh and vibe will be killed by a broken board. It would be a total nightmare if I had to go back to a 7ply board lol

Skated both. VX is more heavier and sturdier and will last you long time. Flight deck is what I prefer light and flip tricks are way easier on flight deck but it ain't strong as VX deck

lol I remember it well but it supposedly made the decks too heavy. Thats when I was ten and I had no need of a powell peralta trademarked boneite decks. I remember it was just an extra ply with a different color in the middle of the wooden plys and It looked thicker. I wish I knew what it was made of too funny quirk of skate history.

Bonite was a sheet of tar paper - it made the board stronger in theory but swelled and ruined the laminate if it got wet, or even if there was high humidity. Flight decks are not bonite.
