Power-carved Extra Large Mushrooms

My daughter asked for some oversized mushrooms. Instead of turning them on my lathe I power carved them for a much more organic look. Using mainly the Abortech TURBOPlane, these go fairly quickly. I did use a Kutzal carbide disk as well because the turboplane can’t reach the underside very well.

lol;;;no bluebirds today;;;lol;;;man now that's a change of scenery;;;think I will have to try that myself somewhere in the future as my shop be full and plus that looks like an outdor project as there is less cleanup and also creating mulch for the area;;;lol;;;;lookin good man;;;if I get one made my sweetheart will probably put paing on it and no longer look like wooden art;;;lol;;;;good one enjoyed thumbs up and have a good one;;;

Thanks Ole Man. Yes, outdoors is the way to go with projects like this one. My granddaughters wanted to paint them but their momma said no. I'll have to make some more I guess and give them something to throw paint at. Thanks for viewing and giving it a thumbs up

Awesome!!! You did a very good job. I'm about ready to go mushroom hunting for mushrooms to eat. But it's still too early, of course. We got close to 6 inches of snow last night. I'm glad for that, but it's supposed to warm up again Sunday or Monday so the snow won't stick around long. And for just because, Azalea is doing good. Have a good day.

Watching the weather report yesterday it looked like Illinois and Indiana were getting a lot of snow. Glad to hear Azalea is doing well. Have a great weekend Jimmy

Nice $1000 art project, Larry. I think you did yours the hard and nicer way. The ones in the stock photo look like the stem is different than the head. And the heads were done on a lathe, while the stems were done with an ax. But, yours are much more mushroom looking. Great job!

Thanks Dean. I like the way they turned out. I've done several on the lathe and I like these a lot better. Noticed you posted a video, going to watch it as soon as I answer these comments.

I've turned lots of them on the lathe too but I do really like the way these look. A lot more organic. Thanks for watching.

Pretty sweet there Mr. Larry I cringe when you started with the chainsaw blade I've seen too many get injured with it. Be careful sir.

That was no chainsaw disk. I would never have enough courage to use one of those. I feel pretty save using the abortech cutter. They can be aggressive but I like to take light cuts unless I read the grain wrong.
