Vintage Virg! Always wanted to watch this video but was a poor teen drummer back in the '90s and couldn't afford to buy it where I lived. The material is awesome here. Seems there was a strain of vintage Weckl in his playing at the time. Hope Virgil does another instructional video one of these days!

Virgil gave a clinic back in the 90s at a location of the now defunct MARS music stores and the guys who set up the kit he was playing did a horrible job and the whole kit fell apart while he's playing, stands collapsed, the double pedal came off the bass drum and it was just a wreck but he kept playing best he could. Never got pissed off. Just rolled with it. Then took questions for an hour and signed autographs. Just a real professional. Outstanding drummer obviously but showed his true colors as a man that day. Huge fan here.

I met Virgil at a NYC Highline ballroom concert with U.K. with Eddie Johnson. Black Pearl kit. He killed it.

This video is solely responsible for my chops and dexterity. So glad the whole thing is online now, and in bangin quality.

There is some truth to that. Virgil had the odd time stuff and the double strokes on the kick drum almost 10 Years earlier than Mr. Lang. But there is also an age gap of almost 10 years .. . .so they're even 😂

He must have destroyed those Remo MasterTouch drums with the way he hits so hard!! I have a set and they are compressed cardboard/resin shells!
