In this episode, we will evaluate law 19 of Robert Greene's 48 laws of power in the Sopranos by first identifying the five most dangerous groups as well as some of the characters that may fall into each, then we will move on to why Green says that it is the most important aspect of acquiring and maintaining power, as shown through Junior Soprano, Jackie Aprile Sr, Phil Leotardo and Tony Soprano, before ending with the group that Tony has the most trouble with, where we run into Irina and a long overdue comparison with Genghis Kahn.

I would definitely love more character parallels. I think a discussion on why Carmine Jr turned out relatively better than say, Jackie and AJ, being thst they're all princes in a sense, would be pretty interesting

I don't see Bobby as an "idiot", I see him as an external representation of a part of Tony. A character's interaction with/reaction to Bobby doesn't tell us about Bobby, it's tells us about themselves and their current subjective perception of and relationship to Tony.

I mentioned this recently on a precious video, but when Bobby finally got bumped up, he suddenly mysteriously began showing an impressive reserved wisdom and patience, all throughout the final season, beginning in my very favorite episode (not the best 2 diff things) Soprano Home Movies. Right up to his last scene in the blue comet talking with the salesman, he displays he's immune to the pitch but enjoys the trains, a least he died happy.

Yeah you should totally do the Libya versus junior thing. I think her name was Nancy marshon, I might have to spelling wrong but she did a fantastic job it's very hard to play the villain convincingly especially when it could be so easy to do it like over-the-top she did it to where you truly felt like she was like this old woman that would run over one of her best friends unknowingly that was one of the hardest times I've ever laughed at any movie or TV in my entire life. I don't even know if he was playing that purely for labs but David Chase is a genius and I love the guy he did kind of mess up the ending but I love that he doesn't care about what people want it just does whatever the hell he wanted

7:05 to be fair, that same argument can be made about Paulie Walnuts. He showed time and time again that he is not leadership material, as he doesn't know how to earn through "legitimate ways" (I use that phrase very loosely) like Ralph or Vito, who have been in the Mafia far less than him yet clearly outshine him. The fact that his argument for his status or relevancy in the family is that he has seniority over most people shows that he does not evolve. Paulie was better suited as a soldier or an enforcer like he was in season 1. Bobby was at least the right candidate captain for Junior crew as believed by Junior and Tony himself, whereas Paulie was made Tony's successor of the Soprano crew due to his close friendship with Tony.

Hello, this is a great series evaluation thing, I just discovered it about a week ago and I'm hooked, I'm gonna watch all of them eventually. I love Sopranos, I've got the box set and watch different episodes literally everyday. My top 3 are 'Walk like a man' 'Where's Johnny' 'Blue Comet' anyway I was just about to go to the gym and this popped up so I had to comment after watching the video. I also like Robert Greene, I haven't read 48.... yet but I have read 'The 50th Law' his collaboration with 50 Cent and that is a good book, highly recommended. I like your analysis but I disagree with what you say about Bobby and without wanting to write an essay I'll try and get all my points across. He was calm, he didn't need to do violence just for the sake of it like most of them but he was dependable and when he was told to, he followed orders and delivered like in Soprano Home Movies, after he whopped Tony remember, not allowing even the boss to disrespect in his own house. He beat that guy after the incident in 'The Ride' who put his family at risk, and he knew marrying the boss' sister could help him, it wasn't out of love really was it. (Who could really love Janice?) Remember Pine barrens when them two were lost in the woods who did Tony call? Because he knew Baccala knows what he's doing, and that scene you showed, when the guy said 'that mortadel's number 3?' the response was 'and you used to sell laser printers out the back of your crown vic' - do you get my point here? Finally the thing with Vito, when they found out he's gay, he had a rational and reasonable response (in their world) 'we can't have him in our social club no more' I've think you've misread Bobby's character big time, watch it again and you may see it differently.

Sopranos was a well written show. But I think they were all insecure more than any other trait. except Bobby. Richie's insecurity led to him punching Janice and resulted in him being shot. Tony put his hand thru a wall because Carmela thought about another man while he gave her the clap who knows how many times for all of his who-roars.

I thought the Frenchie dude trying to scam Artie was dumb and completely unbelievable. Frenchie's cousin or whatever worked there and she could attest to the mobsters frequent business. Then Artie pretty much says this to the Frog in regard to the loan. Did douchebag actually think the mob was gonna let him just slide? Seriously, no one is that dumb. Either that or it was a setup done by Tony to both erase his restaurant tab with Artie and allow him to eat free in perpetuity. If the latter, then brilliant, if the former, just lazy writing.
