Power Quad Cortex EASILY!

One of the frustrating aspects of using a multi-fx unit like Quad Cortex is finding a way to power it.
The Wall Wart isn't the most roadworthy way to power a unit like this and if you're using it on a pedalboard with other powered pedals, you don't want to have to plug in multiple power devices to get your board up and running for a gig.
Cioks has come to the rescue with Crux.
This fancy little power adapter allows you to use the 24v outlet on a Cioks or Strymon supply (usually reserved for daisy chaining other modular power supplies) and plug in Crux - a high current output device designed with Quad Cortex and other multi-fx units in mind.
I made a mistake when talking about the price of Crux - it's actually selling for $69 (instead of my quoted $79). Even better!

1st time viewer...... I'm an over the road truck driver and I like running 100% mobile rigs using rechargeable power supplies. I was wondering if you know of any workarounds that could power the QC? Thanks in advance

So Quad Cortex can be powered properly with 12V 2A provided by Cioks Crux even the input on Quad Cortex says 12v 3A?

Will this work with the Ojai? And power other pedals? So for example, using the crux to power the quad cortex + other 5 pedals?

Yes, Crux + Ojai will work. As long as you use the PS-124 to power up Ojai and EIAJ cable to connect to the Crux.

I don't think so. You need to provide the 24v to the Crux. And LVL8 does NOT have EIAJ output.

Got my quad cortex and a temple duo 24. All i want is the quad, a shure wireless pedal, and an expression pedal. Could this setup handle those 3 things? Im totally a dummy when it comes to pedal setups.

yup! no problems there - so long as your wireless has a voltage the cioks can provide (any pedalboard friendly wireless will be fine) you're good!

With the Cioks 7 and the crux used to power a QC - How many of the spots are still open for other pedals? Fuzz, wah, etc... Do I still have all 7 available to use while running the Crux? Thank you for the video!

yes! The crux connected to the EIAJ (24v) outlet. Not any of the RCA outs. so all 7 are still available.

@@PeterKarrer There is a limit the total supply can handle, off the top of my head I can't remember what it is though... I do know it's very high (higher than other similar supplies out there) but you'd have to confirm this with Cioks! Great question though!

"The correct cable plugs into the QC"?? CRUX set to 12V Ok, I'll bite-I'm looking at a dozen connectors in my Temple board kit-red, yellow, green and black. Some of the connectors have a thin "white" strip running length of cable in addition to having Red, Black, Green & Yellow connectors. Which one is the "correct" cable to go from the CRUX to the QC? Which cable is used from the 24V DC input on the CRUX to the DC7?

Hey! Crux comes with the cable you need from Crux to QC From PSU to Crux you'd need an EIAJ cable (also included) and plugs out of the DC7 24v outlet as well!

Ya it's tricky eh. No one loves wall warts, but people REALLY don't like IEC cables if something like goes on the pedalboard... Has to be a barrel plug supply... Rock and a hard place as a manufacturer.

It will work with anything that takes 9v (at 2.7A or less) or 12v (at 2.0A or less). From memory, MX5 is well below this, in which case - yes! no issues. Just double check specs to make sure I'm not off on the MX5.

Will this also work with the Cioks Ciokalate? I think it has 24V out.

The ciokolate wouldn't have the current to support this unfortunately.

@@GoodwoodAudio yeah. 😂 I know now. Sweetwater had to rush a DC7 to me. It was their fault. My engineer assured me it would work.

you can't, no. You need a 24v output with enough current to supply the QC.

Just ordered a QC-From watching this video-I've a mind to not even open the damn box. So tell me-Why doesn't the supplied power cable with the QC need an additional $350.00 dollars for a power supply and a converter??

To be clear, you don't NEED to do the power this way... This is just a common question I get when doing setups where a big priority is one power cable for the entire board... This is how we do it. but there's nothing wrong with usign the supplied power supply to the QC

so long as you have a 24v outlet with plenty of power / current supply, you can do it.

QC needs 12v 3A power supply but crux can run only 12v 2A. I dont think this method is reliable

i see what you mean, but there is a big difference between what a pedal is rated at (what the specs say it needs) vs. what it actually draws. Strymon timeline for example says it needs 500mA. When you actually measure it's current draw it sits closer to 330mA. Cioks would have done a lot of measurements to make sure the crux could handle it and we've used the crux on a bunch of board builds. Never once had an issue.

I‘m using a CIOKS SOL for a small QC pedalboard without the CRUX: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbCTn8iQzd-dqoU.htmlsi=FMLmpmGBb_FPWFyJ. If you don‘t need more than one additional 9V slot, that‘s a cheap and reliable solution

What The F*CK?? Are you saying the Quad Cortex I just purchased, which has a power supply, is NOT ADEQUATE?? From your video I need tp purchase a CIOKS DC7 AND a CIOKS Crux??

not at all! YOu don't NEED to. The walwart they send is great. A lot of people that we do builds for want 1 power input to the whole board. The easiest way to do that is how I outlined it in the video. But if you're happy using the supplied power supply - do it!
