Power Rangers: The Evil Psycho Rangers Explained

The Power Rangers franchise which has filled our TV screen since 1993, never really stopped evolving and changing. Sometimes it gave us good surprises, and at other times it jumped the shark. While they might have overused the dark hero version trope with Power Rangers Turbo and Power Rangers Wild Force with their evil Shadow Rangers, they did quite a job at creating scary and unforgettable villains with the Psycho Rangers. These quite aggressive villains, who are in a way clones of the Space Rangers from Power Rangers in Space and Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, are the perfect opponents for the Rangers. While not being an exact copy of the originals, each color coded Psycho Ranger absorbed the heroes’ brainwaves. This made them capable of mimicking their fighting style, and weapons, making them on par with the Space Rangers.
The Psycho Rangers are the result of a complicated family affair. After the Red Space Ranger Andros’ sister Karone was abducted as a child, she became Astronema, one of the most feared villains in the entire galaxy. After a few brainwashing, becoming evil and then eviler, she created the Psycho Rangers in order to defeat the Power rangers which she wrongfully blamed for destroying her family. She eventually perished, and got revived as the next Pink Galaxy Ranger.
In today’s Power Rangers video I will explain and describe the Psycho Rangers, how Astronema created them, and finally take a look at the latest addition to the team: Psycho Green.

Man, I miss PRiS... For me, it’s still the greatest season of PR. Astronema, Ecliptor, Darkonda, and the Psycho Rangers where all amazing villains.

I will never in my life forget the scene where Psycho Red straight pulled Andros out of the megazord, then proceeded to beat the everloving shit out of him for Two straight minutes. From a storytelling perspective it is was an affective scene to demonstrate Psycho Red's obsession with killing Andros, and would ultimately contribute to his downfall. Growing up this may be have been the biggest contributing factor in the way I viewed and sometimes idolized fictional villains. I always found myself looking forward to villains ragdolling the heroes in the middle of their conflict, knowing they'd get their comeuppance come stories end (most of the time.) This scene is simply a classic.

The Psycho Rangers are so awesome. They're definitely in my list of favorite villians. Imagine if there were an actual Psycho Silver Dark Specter created. That would be pretty cool. Perhaps he could be Dark Specter's actual son if any one got the idea.

It would be cool to see some working for Drakkon. We sorta of saw that in Shattered Grid. There is actually a fan series called Shattered Past which has Psycho Green working for him. I noticed there is an evil version of Andros in the Coinless timeline. Perhaps that world's version of Zhane became a real Psycho Ranger.

@@jonathancraddock1810 Right, but now that universe doesn't have Power Rangers, since Drakkon killed or stopped the cause for many other threat. Not to mention that in the Ranger Slayer mini series SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILER The Rangers there destroyed their coins. Meanwhile, in the Psycho Path, it showed there are copies of the Psycho Rangers flying around the universe. These versions had their humanity somewhat restored, minus the green one who is stil, wel... a psycho. Imagine to have that team in that universe. I think it'd be interesting to say the least.

You know they do return in a comic where a good Astronama wants the Psychos to be good, but green is not with the idea, especially Andros who wants to destroy them, but Asdranama lets the 5 Psycos leave to travel the universe, and be free

I remember being so sad watching them beat the shit out of the Power Rangers man. I was almost crying because i never seen the Rangers struggle so bad and they just kept coming. Some of the greatest villains EVER!!

The dagger was to give us familiarity but totally separate. In comic lore the green powers Tommy uses go back to Rita's mom when zordon was Rita's guardian. However grace does eventually use that dagger to bring the green ranger powers back to life as her own ranger with a new dragon dagger.

Astronema was evil and clever enough to use Dark Specter's Life Energy as the source for the Psychos, but she and her generals knew the rangers identities and non of them even bothered to just tell the psycho rangers while sending them on a nonsensical quest of looking for the rangers "secret" identities through their voices or their communication devices tones?

At the part of astonema defeat I have to say, man For someone like her who became the queen of evil she sure did not survive as one and even though she looked unstoppable just one hit from a reflective block and she goes down like a fall down minion and it shows That she may look like an evil powerful queen on the outside but In the inside she’s just a fragile innocent teenage girl. I really felt Sad for that scene.

Psycho Black's collar is gold because in the original Japanese series Megaranger, MegaBlack is considered the "Leader" therefore making Psycho Black the leader of the Psychos.

Why did the Pink Galaxy Ranger choose to make the former Astronema her successor since she was the one who created the the Psycho Rangers with one of them who destroyed her physical form?

To help Karone (Astronema) redeem herself because she was really trying hard to make up for past misdeeds. Karone even tried to keep the villains from Lost Galaxy from getting the Pink Rangers saber.

Overall good video but a couple things. 1st trek wasnt always in league with dark spector he only turned to him after being mistreated by his team. Also if u consider it canon another comic states the 5 psycho rangers we saw first are cyborgs made from criminals taken by astronima from across the galaxy. Also a personal theory of mine is that the other 5s powers are from the corrupted morphers of the sonic team and that dark spector collected them after sending trek on his first mission

Psycho Red: Lust. Desired to destroy the red ranger "if its the last thing he did". didn't care about his own team if it meant getting to him Psycho Black: Pride. The most loyal of the psycho's, stopped Red from "taking the glory for himself." when attacking Andros. Psycho Blue: Greed. Didn't care if all the rangers wore blue, just decided he'd "destroy them all" Psycho Yellow: Sloth. Stood by the sidelines watching her brothers and sister do all the work multiple times. Psycho Pink: Gluttony. When she got the savage sword in lost galaxy it grew stronger with every blow. Psycho Silver: Wrath. Though fake, this one wanted to destroy the power rangers once and for all, regardless of color. Psycho Green: Envy. Trek was jealous of his former ranger team which leads him to become Psycho Green.

Yeah the NejiRangers were the Psychos cranked up to 11. It was like how Evil Ren in Ren and Stimpy split into Evil Ren and Hideously Evil Ren.

Yes, but in the end, Psycho Pink was more savage than NejiPink (thanks to Lost Galaxy). Speaking of, after NejiPink died, the other Nejirangers still talked bad about her especially NejiYellow.

The Nejirangers personalities almost mirrored their good guy counterparts. Both Pinks were immature/insecure/eager; both yellows were strategic and had no time for nonsense; both blues were smart/prideful/aloof; both blacks were smart/levelheaded/self-possessed; both reds were hotheads who wanted all the smoke. That's why I liked the Nejirangers better but I also like the Psycho Rangers.

The only time I ever watched power rangers was because of the psycho rangers. Pokemon was my favorite as a kid, but the psycho rangers were the coolest thing I'd seen at that point. I still watch the fights for the nostalgia

In Space was meant to be the end of the Power Rangers series, (and was the end of the SABAN owned franchise) and they really went all out in the arc. I remember the Psycho Rangers TERRIFIED me as a kid... they consistently beat the Power Rangers, and the ease they could do it never really made me feel great about the Space Rangers chances to win. Ever. Early on, the Space Rangers get smacked around, but even after they get some momentum, the Psycho Rangers would pull out some other unbeatable BS and take victory again and again.

The Psycho Rangers were created by Astronema in Power Rangers in Space, to destroy the Power Rangers, but they were created by the life energy of Astronema's master, Dark Spector. Her plan was to destroy the Rangers, but slowly, so at the same time, she can destroy Dark Spector at the same time and become the new Monarch of all that is Evil. Unfortunately, the Psycho Rangers obsession to destroy the Power Rangers of their costume color brought them all to their downfall. The most obsessed Psycho Rangers were Psycho Pink, Psycho Blue and Psycho Red. Their obsessions with the Red, Blue and Pink Power Rangers led to their downfall and to the destruction of Astronema's plan to destroy Dark Spector.

Did you see the Power Rangers beast morpher episode Where one of the villains were Trying to figure out who to bring back to life and that part one of them thought About bringing psycho Red But as they were showing his flashback I noticed in the end of it that scene was not what I think it should be a bad idea 👎 to bring him back Because it shows how he and his team were destroyed by the lost galaxy Rangers and space rangers. My Reason for not bringing him back is his uncontrollable urge to destroy the red ranger and it shows where psycho red talks to ecliptor while fighting and shows Is monster form a psycho black tries to block him and tells him to stick with the plan but then he says No one’s going to prevent me for destroying the red ranger not astronema not you or psycho yellow, asHe pushes psycho black then a attacks the megazord the red Rangers in and Starts attacking the megazord psycho Yellow in as she’s says Psycho red stop you’re ruining everything and he did. For the future bad guys in Beast morphers Yeah that be a good reason why they can’t bring red back to Life because He wants to destroy a red ranger Without anyone interfering.

Silver psycho ranger are not officially a psycho. It's just a cameo or costplay by Zane to trick the psycho rangers. The psycho green are the real one but not extracted in the movie.
