So, there's a power failure and you're on a generator... How do you know when the power has been restored? Here's my way of finding this out.
Sorry about the left channel audio on the short clips in the video. Didn't catch that until after uploading.. that was the result of those videos being recorded "on the fly" in the telegram messenger app on my phone which only records in mono and I didn't catch it until after.

I had a similar setup (minus the relay) for years in the US Virgins where outages are common. I used a simple mechanical $15 timer to cut the alarm off after 15 minutes, giving the power co a few minutes to decide where or not they were going to do one of their on/off tricks. I just repositioned the timer back to the on position and used the override until the next outage. I had a toggle switch as described in this video but it wasn't really required.

I'll be honest: I thought at first that this was part of the security system in that it would notify you when the power came back on (which I was confused about at first since wouldn't it make more sense to know when the power's _off,_ but since you explained it's necessary because of your manually-operated generator it makes sense) via a text notification or something of that effect (which would have been overkill now that I think about it). The system you _did_ build is simple but effective for sure though. I believe there are such things as automatic generators which automatically start up in the event of a power failure & shut off when power is restored (which would save you the trouble of having to manually turn yours on & off, though if that was the case you wouldn't need this alarm system). 1:31 Not quite sure I get what that fuse is for or how it's wired into/what it's got to do with the alarm system exactly, but is it there to help protect the breaker panel? (in case of a surge the fuse will blow & protect the breaker panel) 2:26 Really? Square D? Interesting...(I have the same exact one only it's the original Edwards version, never really had a use for it though) 2:43 Huh, so that's why you replaced it even though it was a lot better sound-wise than the horn. 3:36 Let me guess, the relay is wired to itself (a latching circuit relay like the one on the 5001-DC) & permanently cuts off power to the horns until the system is powered on again. 5:27 Sure thing! You too!

Oh man! This is exactly what I want to set up at our place! Thank you! BTW - I 3-D printed a safety “block “ for our old electrical box to prevent both breakers from being on at the same time. Wishing I could attach a picture, but I’m sure you could figure it out for your breaker arrangement. Thanks again for the awesome video!!

Dl you plan on making your generator setup fully automatic or does the generator you have not have the capability?

It’s a manual standby generator that still has to be hauled out and plugged in. The only automation i could do is a contractor that automatically switches the power so you don’t have to manually flip breakers

Ok I have a genuine question. Why do security systems whenever they get a low battery squeal ? Like I have an older adt system and whenever it gets low on power, it pretty much just sets off a siren due to low power but driving that siren requires more power.

Ademco logic haha… actually a lot of other brands don’t do this for that exact reason.

Is there any reason you cant also hook that up to your bosch system on like a supervisory or something?

I could have, but unless I used an alarm point, the keypads aren't that loud. I also wanted a more distinct sound for this condition than the keypad's general alarm (the bell) sound, which is also used for water leak alarms.

I might still do that anyway though, because then I can get a report sent to my phone as well.

@@NewAgeServerAlarm If you put a feature into your new project so that multiple people can be subscribed (phone, email, call, pushbullet, slack/discord webhook) to very specific alerts. That way your parents can also be notified directly too.
